Gran Turismo Sport (Let it cooook)

Honestly though, look at the thing in motion, the tree textures look like someone cut out the margin doodles a preschool child with limited fine motor skills drew, and stuck them on the side of the track. Truly awful. Then again it was the same with Drive Club and most other racing games. Trackside foliage has always looked gash.

@dwarf Verisimilitude is totally worthwhile when it puts you in a situation that you wouldn't otherwise be able to experience though. Not sure about you, but I don't have the cash nor the stones to make a go of racing professional racecar drivers in like 800+ horsepower vehicles. But yeah, this thread has little discussion of the simulation and more fake car porn. Spoiler: Project Cars, Forza 6 Apex and Horizon 3 all look much much better than this game.

Plus, Horizon has those bitchin' robot dinosaurs.

I think the fact people have to list every single car game with real cars against GT speaks volumes. Might as well throw MK in there too since they have karts and Mercedes :p

If over the past decade GT's staying power does not make sense then it probably wont now. And its not like everyone has not given these other franchises a good go in between the long waits. At this stage I'd rather these companies look at stuff like Ridge Racer Type 4, Rage Racer or Daytona etc. rather than chase GT constantly.

The EU beta is now active. Will report my findings end of the day but i am excited to move on from GT6 finally.

Speaks volumes how? In the sense that we're comparing realistic racing simulation games? I would have thought there would be nothing but the obvious to infer from that - the fact that people are suggesting a graphically superior experience is available elsewhere, on a thread where people are doing nothing but posting ass pics of cars in full bullshot glory.

The previous GT games have been thoroughly mediocre when compared to the competition.

I'm not saying verisimilitude isn't a worthwhile pursuit at all, but rather there's something particularly mundane about Gran Turismo and its press releases. And while you're right about simulators serving a purpose (ample space for them in the market too), you're having me on if you're going to a GT game to experience the thrill of racing a sports car (granted, you did say the series was a little shitty).

I have always wondered how graphics in car games always seems to look better than other games, but I suppose it's because they have very few moving parts and so you can just concentrate on getting the lighting and other things right.

It's also because they're rendering nothing other than a few cars and a stretch of road (which is often built out of tiled assets) rather than dynamically streaming in a buttload of foliage, terrain geometry, character models, animation patterns, textures etc etc.

When you play, for example, Breath of the Wild, it's keeping whatever may be over yonder hill in system memory, and has to render stuff that might be in the virtual equivalent of a kilometer in radius. Whereas the render path for a racing sim is always extremely narrow and specific. It's why you'd get Wipeout HD on PS3 to run at 1080p/60, whereas The Last of Us ran at 720p/30.

Yesterday it was disconnecting alot. But had alot of fun. DragonTrail Track is alot of fun. The new oval is also crazy small and fast. The menus are slick and music great.

There is no Pro patch yet but the image quality is fantastic, it looks supersampled most of the time. Gameplay is butter smooth with full vsync. Some roughness in the menu/attract areas.

The online races are fun but the occasional bump etc can cause issues. Some users are also quite laggy despite matchmaking. The most important thing is to up your sportsmanship points. The whole sport mode is intriguing and thats what we seem to be testing for europe.

Tried playing over the weekend, but the consistent issues prevented me from actually doing a lot, bar qualifying hot laps. Which i'll admit they were pretty good testing the track out.

Yeah day 1 was rough. It's stable now and Sport online races are active for more hours.

Doing the daily quota gives new cars.

Didn't realise there is a massive emphasis on clean racing. Easy to lose your sportsmanship rating!

Major update with beta 1.05

They changed the sportsmanship rating system, added a brake notifier and lots more UI changes.

The tracks are also updated with more scenery detail. Some loose gravel effects have been introduced.

edit: 2017 winter release.

One of the best e3 trailers imo:

There was a full documentary and another 'Join the Human Race' trailer

October 17th :D

It's been faaaaaar too long since I've played a Gran Turismo title (for reference, uh...A-Spec was my last), and after having dabbled with Forza for a while last generation, I can't wait to just enjoy looking at cars again, getting behind the wheel and smelling the virtual rubber.

Tempted to hop on board with this. Could do with a racer and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of top quality choices there atm.

Either this or Wipeout.

Night time Nurburgring. Looking fun (to die). Looks like you can also use left/right indicator lights now and other cars can light up the inside of your cockpit.

Havent kept up too much but Vision GT continues with Mclaren announcing their new hyper car.

http://www.mclaren.com/formula1/inside-the-mtc/mclaren-ultimate-vision-gran-turismo/

Quote

The cabin which composes the car’s main structure places the driver lying on their front, while the car wraps around them. The resulting extreme cabin-forward layout means that the driver has perfect sight of a circuit corners apex, while the teardrop shaped canopy covering the driver carries on the advantage of McLaren roadcars in providing great visibility.

i1wl8nXax8OKiz.jpg

Mounted behind the cabin is McLaren’s 4 litre V8 Twin Turbo engine. The engine drives the rear wheels while the front ‘pods’ contain high output electric motors which drive the front wheels. Combined, the system output reaches 1150ps. The front disc brakes are mounted inboard to reduce unsprung mass, and the driver is able to view it directly to check its temperature and condition.

Its aerodynamics also represents a breakthrough. The 'McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo' is optimised so that the body itself produces optimum aerodynamics, keeping independent aero parts to a minimum. While cornering, the covers near the air inlet will open to produce drag and downforce. As a result, it greatly reduces the number of moving parts and helps to reduce weight. As can be expected from McLaren, who introduced carbon fibre first into the world of F1 racing, this machine also utilises carbon in various components, keeping weight down to a mere 1000kg.

I think technically this might be the first game to top Driveclub on visuals.

Be careful with the picture settings when the game starts :D This pushes my Plasma SDR to the max.

Granted I haven’t played Driveclub since neat release, I think a lot of games top it visually. Maybe not for pure photo realism but that’s not the only metric I judge visuals by personally. Alternatively, I haven’t played it, what about Project Cars?
