bob Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 At the risk of coming back to this post in a couple years and seeing it as dumb...is 8k really that desirable? 4k is only really a big deal on already big TVs. I think the next big jump will be to 32bits HDR. Instead of the current 10bit. It's gonna be like Megapixels were. They'll keep on increasing until people can't see the difference, and then they'll stop and focus on something else.
Nolan Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Hmmm. Now to decide if I want to stick with the upgraded 1TB (making due with the 500 in the OG PS4 is a hassle) or since I'm starting fresh, pop in the 512 SSD I have laying about unused. More vs Fast. :/
Shorty Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Neither of those options is big enough IMO :p
somme Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I've got an 2TB HD in my PS4, and it's over half way full. Not sure I'd want to go back to deleting games/re-downloading.
Daft Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Mine arrived at 10 in the morning. Transferring everything from the old PS4 has taken about 8 hours. It's almost done though.
dazzybee Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Wish someone with a PSVR and a Pro could talk through the improvements. I sort of hope it isn't too big....
somme Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Wish someone with a PSVR and a Pro could talk through the improvements. I sort of hope it isn't too big.... One person on Gaf said everything was a lot clearer. Waiting to hear more impressions. I'm also kinda hoping the improvements aren't very noticeable.
Sheikah Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 So apparently the PS4 Pro can run FFXV at 1080p60 (base PS4 will run the game at 1080p30). Sounds like a nice feature for people with 1080p TVs.
V. Amoleo Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Wish someone with a PSVR and a Pro could talk through the improvements. I sort of hope it isn't too big.... Which VR games have received a Pro profile? If it's any of the games that I have, I can give it a try and see what's changed.

Quite a few of them have Pro patches. Ones I can remember are: Thumper VR Worlds Batman Bound Rigs Robinson Not sure if all the Pro patches are out yet (I know people have said Thumper and VR Worlds are) But most games are meant to have a Pro patch.

I have Batman, so I'll give that a whirl now... Well once the PS4 transfer has finished.
somme Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I have Batman, so I'll give that a whirl now... Well once the PS4 transfer has finished. Stolen from Gaf... Confirmed VR titles getting updates so far: DRIVECLUB VR PlayStation VR Worlds RIGS Mechanized Combat League The Playroom VR Thumper Until Dawn: Rush of Blood Bound Rez Infinite Battlezone Trackmania Turbo VR Robinson: The Journey (On disc) Eve Valkyrie Tumble Eagle Flight (On disc) The Assembly (Compatible since launch) Tethered
V. Amoleo Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Stolen from Gaf... Ah so Batman VR hasn't been updated. Well I gave it a go anyway, must be the placebo effect because the edges of the screen didn't seem as blurry. DriveClub VR will have to wait until the weekend now Tracking is still terrible. I wonder if it's because I'm using Gen 1 camera.

I wonder if it's because I'm using Gen 1 camera. I'm using an older camera as well and my tracking is fine - I've had next to no issues. On the first day I did though, I didn't realised direct sunlight would interfere with the tracking. Shut the blinds and I was fine. Not sure Driveclub VR has that big of a difference. Apparently others do though. I haven't got PS4Pro, so can't corroborate.
Daft Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Tomb Raider in the upscaled 4K looks... Really bloody superb. The 'Enriched' graphics mode doesn't seem to make that big a difference but since I don't really know what the game is meant to look like I'm not sure what is added or missing. The 60fps option is nice too, but I'm one of the three people in the world that thinks it makes the characters feel a little weightless in third-person games. Trackmania Turbo looks super crisp too, in 4K. The new 4K screenshots are nice too. Haven't tried video capture yet. I've just installed Deus Ex and The Last of Us so I'll give those a whirl tomorrow. Now I just need Overwatch to get a 4K patch. Plz Blizzard.
Nolan Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Sounds like an unlucky break for you Choze. But if Amazon habitually do it to you makes sense to drop Prime. My Pro arrived well before I got home. I unboxed real quick and after reading Dafts post of transferring taking hours I decided to put it off until today. My console said 60 minutes, and the actual transfer screen says 371GB- 120minutes remaining. So just how much were you transferring @Daft ? Also I think I'm really going to need to delve into my TVs settings to make sure I'm getting the best possible picture. HDR and 4K and such all. I already got a notification that I might not have the best color settings and may need to adjust my TV to see if supported resolutions change. (Currently YUV420) Annnd just read up on it. No passthrough support so I need to plug it into my TV directly. Easy enough fix.
Daft Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 About 500GB, took close to 8 hours but because I have an absolutely awful router. I've seen other people have done it much quicker.
Nolan Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I had to use an Ethernet cable. That might have helped, it was odd because both systems were connected to the same network but it still demanded a cable.
Sheikah Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Sounds good. I can give impressions for several games once it arrives... There screens now popping up elsewhere. Kind of amazing how reviewers could not be arsed to do pictures. But were happy making compressed youtube vids and asking for donations. Not sure if Blizzard will? Certainly not hard i imagine give that its 1080p 60fps on PS4 and it runs well on pc's. COD is amazing looking as it is on PS4 right now too and that has one of the best 4K modes. Amazon gave a £7.99 refund. As if that helps. If it does not arrive by 6pm the order will be cancelled. I can live without Prime anyhow if they do not deliver items as promised. In the 3 or so times Prime have not delivered an item to me in a day I have complained to them and got 30 days extra Prime membership each time, and even got them to send replacement items right away by priority mail. Just badger them til you get your way.
killthenet Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 It's a bit disappointing to hear about the lack of options for rendering on some titles. The fact that 'The Last Of Us' runs more sluggishly when playing on a 1080p display than it does on a base PS4 is pretty poor. Hopefully it's something they sort out soon as TLOU is one of the first games I'll be playing through, having held off on playing it on PS3 because of the promise of a smoother experience on Pro.
Nolan Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I'm downloading TLOU currently to give it a replay. The PS4 base version played beautifully (I went for the unlocked framerate). Hoping it's an exaggeration of how it runs on the Pro. I suspect people may just be overestimating the capabilities of the machine. 4K is an incredibly demanding resolution. Which is why to my knowledge most 4K games are 30fps. If you're coming from base TLOU with mostly 60fps, 4K@30 is going to feel and look sluggish comparatively.
V. Amoleo Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) I played through The Last of Us on the PS3, which I'm guessing was running at 30fps anyway, so I've not noticed it being any more sluggish in 4k. Just played a bit of Infamous First Light and it looks amazing. The machine is a little bit noisier than the old one. But it is having to work hard, so that's understandable. --- Ah so Batman VR hasn't been updated. Well I gave it a go anyway, must be the placebo effect because the edges of the screen didn't seem as blurry. I wasn't going mad, it seems there is a difference for Batman VR without any additional patch. Edited November 12, 2016 by V. Amoleo

Which is why to my knowledge most 4K games are 30fps. If you're coming from base TLOU with mostly 60fps, 4K@30 is going to feel and look sluggish comparatively. It's especially a problem for someone like me who doesn't already have a PS4 and doesn't have a 4K TV, but is getting the Pro so that they are future proofed. So for the foreseeable future i'll be playing my PS4 games on a 1080p TV so won't care too much about super sampling so would definitely choose to render the game at 1080p if given the choice. The lack of choice for the end user is pretty disappointing considering what they have said in the past, every game rendering at 4K or 1800p and down sampling to 1080p just seems silly.
Nolan Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I was just playing it a little bit (couple small firefights) with the unlocked frame rate. Didn't seem like anything was wrong with the performance. Though it was a pretty short stint.
