I've played the DS remakes of IV, V and VI

Which platforms are the originals on? SNES, I assume?

4 is NES.  5 & 6 are SNES.

4 was originally released in English on the NES in the US.  5 & 6 were never localised until their respective DS remakes.

Despite my progress, one of my Facebook friends has told me there is still quite a bit of the game left which upon surpassing the 50 hour mark still seems mad to me. The following spoiler should be avoided if you are before the second act, not sure how far into the second act I am so unless you are near the end of the second act I hazard a guess then don't click the spoiler.

Spoiler

I have reunited with all the party members after the Worlds Fall...Well almost everyone. RIP Veronica, my favourite girl. TTATT

I will soldier on despite how much the reveal affected me, I owe it to myself to finish it at this point. I have found myself actually using the tactics menu with these later bosses in the story, since they have some annoying attacks that have caused me to get the odd Game Over.

I reached that part earlier on today, such a sad scene.

I'm now at 38 hours played and have arrived at what I'd assume to be final area (were it not for everyone saying how long the game is :blank:), but Hero is only Lv. 42 and the very first encounter at that location saw my team getting absolutely obliterated! :o Just gave it a second attempt but was killed even quicker than the first! I've avoided it for most of the game, but definitely going to have to do some grinding now I reckon.

Anyone know the best location for metal slimes? :hehe:

I found a guide on Metal Slime farming if you would like, if not I'll spoiler tag it.

A few metal slimes later and the credits have rolled :hehe::

Spoiler

The final battles were epic! :o Had some seriously close calls on the last one. :D

And it looks like it's not even really over yet.

What a game! :)

Man, you were not kidding! :D

Spoiler

Absolutely mind blowing what has happened since “finishing” the game!!!! :o Not sure what the devs were smoking when they decided to put this content after the credits though, insanity! :blank:

But yeah, the whole time travel thing has been incredible. It’s something that has been done in so many games but I don’t think any have ever done it quite as well as this, they really make you feel it. I was actually pretty effected by the scene where you leave everyone behind to go back, amazing stuff.

I’ve now reached the point where I have do some trials. Attempted one last night which involves beating a tough encounter in under 25 moves or something, but got seriously messed up! :heh: More grinding needed I guess...

Or perhaps I should experiment a bit more with the team lineup and weapons. Was thinking about trying some of the other types, like axes. Think I might need to re-unlock a bunch of skills again for some of the characters actually, so should probably do that too. :hehe:

Yup.

Yeah, saying goodbye was rough. Even though you have the chance to change things for the better, you went through hell with each of them and it shaped them into the people they became. Messing with the timeline would essentially erase all of that. :(

@drahkon did you ever finish the post game and get the true ending?

Don't think I did. If I remember correctly I had to sell a few games and sadly DQXI was one of them.

I intend to play the Definite Edition at one point and do everything. This game deserves my time again and I really want to get the Platinum :D

So I beat the final boss and saved the world from Mordegan.

Spoiler

I was so happy to be given a chance to save Veronica, the whole going back in time bit was a quality scene, I almost didn't want to go back after the heartfelt feeling of my companions. But the whole bit of defeating Mordegan before he gets the Sword of Light changing the fate of that weird Dark Tockle getting to fuse(?) with the lanter he failed previosly at least makes this second go engaging. I see what people meant now when they said there was plenty left. I imagine I'll have to find a way to level the other party members again before taking on this new evil.

This scene made me feel.
Image may contain: 2 people, people dancing, people on stage and people sitting, text that says "0282R Veronica I, don't know... (sob) just...welled up, all of sudden... I'm just. .glad to be here with all of you, suppose... Heh... (sniff)"

That point in the game is absolutely spectacular and was the point where it elevated DQ XI S to "Best Dragon Quest" in my eyes.

The timing is so well executed. Getting more and more tempted to do my 3D playthrough. Unfortunately, I have much crappier commitments at the moment.

So I've got everyone up to level 99 (it's unbelievably quick in this game thanks to those 2 pep skills!) and also have what I assume to be most of the best gear, but the final boss is still absolutely impossible! :shakehead Had about 5 or 6 attempts at it now and the best I can do is...

Spoiler

make a little crack appear on its face. :heh:

It seems massively down to luck. :hmm: Sometimes I can survive for quite a long time, other times he'll wipe out the entire team in the blink of an eye! :o Not really sure what else I can do at this point, what with grinding no longer an option. ::shrug:

Yep, that did the trick. Cheers! :)
Is it actually possible to defeat alien bug dude without doing that? :hehe:

Anyway, the real final ending was cool, although the characters look so damn weird in that "realistic" rendering style that the pre-rendered cutscenes use. :heh: They should've just stuck with the simpler real-time models for those scenes as well I reckon.

For some reason they don't tell you about that, or if they did it was very subtle or mentioned at some obscure point.

I don't think you can, I'm guessing you lost because he used his time freezing move since I got the the point you did as well on my first go and ended up losing. I'm sure there's a Youtube video of someone beating him without it though, but I think that attack is designed to prevent you from winning.

Are you doing the post-game? :cheeky:

I used the Super Sword of Light immediately. I mean, you spent the last portion of the game making the damn thing! It'd be silly if it ended up being unnecessary.

This game has post-game post-game content. If you complete all the Tickington stuff there’s some extra super bosses.

I was using it... As a weapon. The problem was not realising it had to be used as an item. :heh:

I spent way too much time in the casino getting that longsword that ultimatly became useless way later in the game. The Bunny Suit recepie however was a staying point on Jade for the majority of my playthrough. By which I mean as soon as I got Jade into the party.

It's like a semi-serious Final Fantasy but everyone looks like a Dragon Ball character and all the enemies have wildly punny names.

It's about as old-school RPG as you can expect. But it has very solid foundations and a nice modern budget.

Definitely give it a go. It's one of the most famous RPG franchises for a very good reason.

Almost finished with Yakuza 7. After all the Dragon Quest references, I'm curious to try a game in the series. Is this a good one to go for if I've never played any before? And am I better off getting it on Switch or PS4/5?

You really can just pick any game in the series to start off with; so go for it.  DQ11 is a brilliant place to start.

The Switch version is exactly the same as DQ11s on other platforms, just in a slightly lower resolution and also portable (though it does run at 60FPS on PS5/Xbox Series, it's not exactly a big deal for a turn-based RPG anyway).  Go for the Switch version, you'll appreciate the portability.
