It's a bit boring, though, isn't it..?

Not at all. Game has been an absolute delight to play.

I've reached the final battle. Given the level of my team, I'd probably be able to take it on and win. I wanna go and do a few other bits and bobs first though. I wouldn't mind looking for/making some decent armour. I think my high levels have done most of the heavy lifting when it comes to my stats and some new equipment should give them another boost.

My adventure came to an end last night.

Despite my high levels, the last boss took some doing. Dude kept using Disruptive Wave and knocking all my buffs off. Actually, this was a common theme throughout the game. I know it happens in other DQ games but it seemed to be a lot more frequent in this one. I was having to keep Angelo on healing duties and Yangus and Jessica backing him up with Sage Stones. I eventually got tired of trying to keep my stat boosts intact and instead just went on the attack. At this point things started to go my way and once I went all out the fight ended quickly.

I really loved the game and can see why it's a favourite to many fans. It was a great experience and i'll always remember it as my Covid game. :D However, DQXI is still the top dog. That game seems to build on the foundation that this game set and then improve upon it. Both are amazing games but I do prefer DQXI. I'd probably rate both DQIV and DQV slightly higher than this as well. That's not to discredit this game in anyway but more how high the standard is with each of these games. I'd probably go with...

  1. DQXI
  2. DQIV
  3. DQV
  4. DQVIII
  5. DQIX
  6. DQVI
  7. DQII
  8. DQI
  9. DQIII

That leaves me with only DQVII to play, unless S-E do eventually decide to release DQX over here. I'm still hoping the offline version appears on these shores at some point...

Did you do the post-game?

Don't think I will. I'm satisfied enough with the ending I got.

You learn more about the Hero's and another characters back story. Plus some fun boss fights.

Just pretend there's a platinum trophy. :heh:

I went back on the game and got the proper/true ending.

I quite liked how things turned out, even if it was a little obvious what was going on.

What skills did you end up investing points in?

100 in axes for Yangus. 100 in bows for Angelo. 100 in staffs for Jessica and a bit of a mix for Adam. The rest of the points just sat on the shelf as I didn't know where to allocate them.

I went all-in like that with Yangus and the others but didn't know what to specialise in with the Hero either.

The Hero has a lot of useful skills scattered across multiple sets whereas I found with the others you could easily concentrate on a single set and be done with it.

While H-O-T is right that the Hero has a lot of useful skills across most trees, I find that Omniheal (Courage) is a priority, the skill after that halves the MP he needs to cast spells, which is also very useful.

Putting 100 points into Courage and Swords will allow Hero to use his most powerful attack, so that's what I would go for as a long term goal.

I never reached Omniheal with the Hero. I was headed down that path but I didn't get the exp needed to unlock it.

I remember basically ignoring all the other trees until I got to that "Half MP" perk, and by the time I got there, it became apparent that Boomerangs had lost their early game effectiveness, and Fisticuffs would've been a waste. So I went all in with Sword next. Because Sword is almost always gonna have a Hero-exclusive weapon that rocks.

Of course, that's the joy of the skill tree system in Dragon Quest. Allows some flexibility without having to work in a job system.

Yeah, I never bothered with Fisticuffs either. None of the skills in that set looked decent at all.
