Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions

Recommended Posts

A new Geometry Wars - Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions - has been announced.

Sierra is back and with it Geometry Wars.

The new Geometry Wars - Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions - comes from Lucid Games, the developer formed from ex-Bizarre Creations staff. It will be fully 3D, as opposed to its 2D predecessors, and is due out later this year.

Fully 3D :blank:

Not sure whether this will work.

First Tomb Raider becoming an Xbox exclusive, now Geometry Wars in 3D.

Sad day for me :(

Looks like it'll come to more platforms, possibly explaining why there was no showing at the XBox conference.

Dimensions will feature a single-player campaign with 50 different challenges in addition to 10 different battle modes. The game is due out this holiday, but Sierra once again didn’t mention any release platforms by name — but it is coming to “more platforms than ever before.”

Alright. Feast your eyes on some screenshots:

So that's what they meant by "fully 3D". I'm relieved and FUCKING EXCITED. :yay:

The first game in Activision’s new Sierra initiative, GW3 is being developed by Lucid, a studio founded by former Bizarre Creations folks, meaning that GW3’s pedigree is steeped in the original two XBLA games. And unlike its fantastic predecessors, it’ll be available on a number of platforms, including 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC.

[...]

It absolutely still feels like Geometry Wars, but with a bit of Super Stardust HD and Resogun mixed in, which is pretty much the best thing ever.

[...]

Dimensions also includes a local cooperative mode for up to four players that contains a set of 10 unique challenges created with multiplayer in mind, as well as a competitive mode that Lucid said will be revealed at a later date. Finally, Lucid promised that fans who loved some of the series’ stranger modes like Pacifism are going to be satisfied by some of the weird variations they have up their sleeves.

Also: No Wii U version apparently.

But also no Vita version from the looks of it :(

Looks lovely. I always found GW to be a bit punishing though, they'll have a lot of work to match the replayability of Resogun.

Wow looks incredible clearly inspired by Super Stardust and Resogun but who cares it looks bloody amazing!

The WiiU stick placement would actually have suited this I suspect, but heyho. If it's downloadable on 360 that'll have to happen!

Godammit I wish this WAS coming to WiiU(don't really see why not either?). Never owned the others properly but I could see why there was a lot of value in 2. The idea of online leaderboards/competing against friends' scores in something like this really feels appealing in an old school way.

- Third party game.

- Will probably be good.

- The type of game that would be great on the WiiU.

Therefore, it won't be coming.

Do any of the old developers have anything to do with this?

It's from the company that the old developers founded after they were closed down.

You get me, brah.

I can only ever think 'why?', sometimes I think that titles like this are exactly the sort of title to show the WiiU's potential prowess - how much is the cost of an indie WiiU port and what number of sales will be needed to make the money back?

However the WiiU failed so much at being something particular/specific that they probably realise most of the sales they COULD get on it would just be gotten elsewhere(PS34/360ne) if they just ignore the WiiU. The WiiU feels so irrelevant to so much sometimes it makes me sad :(

I think your last paragraph sums up the problem. Will the people behind this game be kicking themselves about potentially missing out on WiiU sales? Imo, not really. It's sad really, it should be coming out on the WiiU as it's the type of game I would have liked to have played had I still been WiiU only.

Still, this type of thing makes me glad that I have looked elsewhere, tbh. It's not a massive game or a potentially huge title, but it's just good to have the option to play this if I wanted to. At least there is somewhat of a replacement for this on the eShop with Nano Assault, so...I guess that's something. Actually, no, it's still bullshit.

I have on occasion considered that Nano Assault dealie but I dunno...it wouldn't be Geometry Wars. Geometry Wars was really well recieved, I'd want this just off the back off knowing that #IronicNonFranchiseFatigue. Tbh now I'm suddenly wondering to myself why I never bought GW2 when I actually had some money to do so.

I believe that there's a demo for Nano Assault on the eShop. If it's still there (should be). I downloaded the demo and had a good time playing it. I also owned Geometry Wars Galaxies (think that's it) for the Wii, which was also superb.

The ideal scenario would be to have both. But, at least you can get this on the 360/PS3, whichever one you have.

I have to admit....not owning a PS4 and missing out on Resogun and also having only ever played Geometry Wars Galaxies on the Wii I'm also pretty darn excited for this in amongst all the madness of other AAA games.

Thing is, games like these (Resogun, Super Stardust HD and Geometry Wars) are virtually infinitely replayable. Retro Evolved is easily my most played 360 game ever and I'm quite sure that GW3 will top that.

Same with the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Bought Advanced Warfare and GTA V, but I'm playing Isaac (even though I've played the original version) the most these days.

Top-notch gameplay + a pick-up-and-play-aspect = great games. :)

And with my current lifestyle (university, studying, socialising, starting a relationship) this kind of entertainment simply fits. Not a lot of time for gaming.

As soon as the Christmas Hollidays begin it's time for GTA V, Far Cry 4, Smash Bros, CoD, etc. etc.

But right now, GW3 is my most anticipated game

Yep I totally agree, It's like now I have less than hour where I could fit in some gaming not gonna settle into Dragon Age no point! Glad to hear your enjoying Rebirth as well I've not picked it up yet (waiting to see if it appears on Xbox One not sure it will) but loved the original.

Gave the game a go just now.

:blank:

There goes my life.

Played a couple of Adventure Mode levels...awesome.

Played the Classic Modes...awesome.

Remembered there are competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes...awesome.

The mix of old, perfect gameplay with small and simple, yet effective and quite game changing mechanics (i.e. supers, drones and most importantly: the stage shape!) makes GW3 such a great game.

Presentation is also top notch. Music is FUCKING AMAZING.

Easily a GOTY contender for me.

Come on people. It's only 15€. BUY IT. GIVE ME SCORES TO BEAT. I NEED YOU.
