PlayStation 4 Console Discussion

Recommended Posts

I was trying to think of my 'dream feature' that I'd like to see in the PS4...but I'm drawing a blank.

Virtual reality like in sword art online.

Except without the evil creator enslaving all the players and forcing them to play the game thing.

Merely based on all the speculation and rumour, PS4 is more appealing to me than the next Xbox. If PS4 really is a game monster that doesn't force all this silly fancy technology down my throat like microsoft's next box is suggested to do, then I'm done. In fact, hearing the controller is being revamped really prompted me to lean towards sony a lot more. However, lack of backward compatibility would be a bit of a shame, as the entire PS3 catalogue is something I've been missing out on all these years.

I guess that there'd be possibility of some sort of purchase-through-console option to play some/all/a few of the PS3 games (I don't really 'get' what the issue compatibility issue is, but I presume games could be 'ported' or whatever further down the line).

But ultimately I'm just going to wait.

I was just dismayed to remember that Studio Liverpool is nae more, so it's not likely that the PS4 will see an iteration of Wipeout. 2048 was like viagra for my Vita boner, but the PS4 is going to have to pull out something special at launch now :(.

Strange one, the initial rumour this thread was based on did say it would be revealed in weeks, but everything to come out of Sony lately has said they're letting Microsoft go first.

They could reveal part of something, and the latter part at a later (post-MS) date.

Kind of like Nintendo did with the Wii U, but make the 2nd part better not just "so in the last year you've done...what?"

Obviously MS are planning on unveiling Durango on Feb 19th ;)

Could be the new controller reveal or something I suppose? with the console to be revealed at E3... but the hype's gonna be built up, and that would seem underwhelming.

So hyped :)

At a guess we'll get a glimpse of the console and a montage trailer, while at E3 they'll announce the games, release date and price.

PS4 it is. I hope its fully backward compatible :) All the comments regarding PS+ say it clearly is.

They'll probably show off their magnificent new controller:

This could be interesting. I am intrigued to see how Sony and MS are going to tackle their next consoles. Since the jump won't be that big (nowhere near as noticiable as PS1-PS2, PS2-PS3), I'm wondering if they'll add some unique features to the consoles.

Roll on February 20th

Heh, I doubt that's going to happen. What I think is more likely is that they'll do something along the lines but with the PS Vita and have it as an optional experience. It'll keep costs down, boost Vita sales and to be honest, something I'd prefer as my main dig with Nintendo is some of their innovations, at times, really seem to be forced on you. Not to say I hate their innovations mind!

I really hope Sony pulls through on this one, as I'd rather see them live on than to see Microsoft dominate in the 'power house' category again in the next generation. But they need to tread carefully, try to ensure a profit on each unit sold and keep it as open as possible (not exactly in easiness of hacking sense, but keep it like the PS3 where storage mediums and etc are not proprietary).

If they manage to fuck this up combined with consumers being bat shit retarded enough to face another few years of, most likely, still paying for Xbox Live, then Sony is really going to be on the tipping point.

If the leaks are to believed, technically it will be a very good leap. If the architecture between the Xbox and Playstation are indeed nearly identical, then developers progress over the years should be able to put out 1080p with possibly 60 frames per second.

This is something that should be very noticeable to players, with the majority of games published these days sacrificing performance in favour of graphics.

Yeah, technologically it's better. However, you and I both know the at this point, for the time being, that it doesn't directly correlate

That's such an old line, if you look at that Killzone tech demo, Killzone 2 and 3 actually look better (albeit slightly different due to using better animations - and that tech demo is cut to be ACTION PAAAACKEED when a game could never function that way).

I can hear the sounds of straws being grasped at.

Performance will still get sacrificed at the altar of graphics and you know it. There's nothing stopping devs from making 1080p/60FPS games on PS3 if they wanted to (in fact there are already a few like Ridge Racer 7), the problem is that they don't want to!

I still expect many sub 1080p games next gen (though I doubt we'll see them go sub 720p this time) and many games will continue to run at 30FPS for the sake of better graphics, larger worlds etc. Not every game needs 60FPS...

I'm sticking to my original prediction: NXtBox and PS4 will attempt a small leap in power, both will have something to try to distinguish themselves from the competition. Let's see what the PS4 brings, then.

We already know what MS are planning (Set-top box OS with live TV DVR recording, Kinect 2.0, Fortaleza AR Glasses accessory after launch, possible Illumiroom camera accessory, cross game Skype support and probable built in Twitch.TV support), so it's definately not just a graphics jump...

Sony have some sort of stereo camera setup as well, but we don't know much about it. Otherwise though, it seems to be a more basic upgrade and focus on a graphics boost (unless the rumours about a radically new design for the DS controller pan out)

Killzone tech demo, if I recall, was actually pretty solid to the final product, albeit the one of the only ones. Most of the PS3's over-estimations came from third party developers, I still remember that fucking Gundam game that looked mad impressive.

Don't suppose you know of any HD video's of that Killzone tech demo to you? I'm curious to see the texture quality of the surroundings again. Because there's one thing I've noticed about FPS's this generation and that's some very clever tricky by having the texture quality of stuff that's always near you at a fucking unreal quality (like the visible parts of your arms and the gun), the textures you place elsewhere like the ground mainly gets overlooked.

This would be a good idea, as it'd be more realistic considering that's how we see things, but once you start moving towards something it just looks fucking awful and kind of ruins the immersion. I wonder if there'll be any games next generation that'll use some seamless technique to increase texture quality with distance, as it's clearly not happened this gen. Hence why I'm curious to

So it means we'll have games that are like the tech demos and promises Sony made at the reveal of the PS3. Sweet.

Although it doesn't lessen the impact of the lie, all of the companies have lied through their teeth this generation.

The PS3 had the same thing that the Wii U had, varying specs that were switched out very late into development. I wonder how Nintendo's going to pull out a title like that Zelda tech demo considering the that the Wii U is most likely weaker than originally planned?
