Wii U Approaches: Backlog Battle!

Hero-of-Time

Recommended Posts

With the Wii U releasing at the end of the year ( hopefully ) I would like to get through a few games on the Wii that I either:

  • Started but never finished.

  • Never even started.

This being the case I want to start and finish Xenoblade, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes 1 & 2, all before the Wii U arrives to these shores. I think Xenoblade will be the real challenge, whereas the other games are supposed to be pretty short.

Are there any titles that you have sitting on your shelf that you would like to get out the way before the new console is released?

Share your shame! :D

EDIT: What i'm suggesting is that out of all the games you have to play pick one or multiple titles that you would like a crack at finishing and then we can all post our progress in this topic and see if we get them finished in time.

I'm catching up. Finished Xenoblade a couple of weeks ago and have had little time to play games since then but got time to start Wario Land: Shake Dimension. Then I don't know what to play on Wii, although there are some games on Xbox that deserve my attention now. I do know that I'm actively looking for Zack & Wiki, Muramusa, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower, which are all games I mean to play sometime. I'm soon going to Dublin where I hope 2nd hand games are cheaper than here in Denmark so I might pick a few up there. I also have Monster Hunter Tri lying around but I'm seriously thinking about trading that in even before I start it as I can't really see myself having time to play it.

As for games I've started but never finished, Kirby's Epic Yarn stands out the most. It just got a bit boring. Then we have Sonic Colours which I never really gave a chance.

According to my Backloggery, I have 30 unfinished or unplayed games, and that's probably missing a few titles

That includes the 3 "rainfall" games, Monster Hunter Tri's story mode and games I got years ago that I still haven't played (Disaster: Day of Crisis, A Boy and His Blob, Tales of Symphonia). Even Okami which I still haven't played even though I bought the PS2 version years ago.

That list also includes Zack & Wiki which was quite early in the Wii's life as well. Can't remember if I picked it up straight away though.

There's one or two titles I'm near finished, like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (shocking, I know) which I'm on the final chapter and I could probably cheat with Bit.Trip and One Piece: Unlimited Cruise Part 2 since I also have the 3DS versions of those games. And the New Play Control! games which I played most of them on Gamecube as well, but I want to play through Pikmin 2 again before 3.

Going by that number, there's no way I'll finish them all by the Wii U launch. Quite a few are RPGs as well which take up a lot of time. I suppose if there's bit of a drought on Wii U after launch I'll have stuff to keep me busy.

Also, that list does not include WiiWare and Virtual Console titles, but they'll transfer over. :)

(My DS backlog is also still massive, and my 3DS one is building fast :()

Wii games I haven't finished? I've bolded the ones I want to finish at some point.

Boom Blox - Got bored of it.

The Conduit - I think I finished the first level.

De Blob - Wasn't fond of it.

Disaster: Day of Crisis - Probably about 1/4 of the way through.

Eledees - It was fun for a while.

Epic Mickey - Levels are too big and empty. Like Banjo-Tooie but on a bigger and blander scale.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers - Didn't like it.

Heatseeker - Fun for a while.

House of the Dead: Overkill - I hate most lightgun games. I hated this.

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga - The LEGO games seem a bit souless for me.

Little King's Story - Expanded my village a little bit.

Monster Hunter 3 Tri -Turns out it isn't my kind of game.

Nights: Journey of Dreams - Was bad

No More Heroes - Was really bad.

Okami - I'm at the first village.

Red Steel 2 - I don't really remember where I'm at.

Sonic and the Black Knight - It was awful.

SSX Blur - I liked it, but never got round to finishing it.

Super Mario Galaxy - I've beaten Bowser, but need the next 60 stars. Then there's the second playthrough.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - Eww.

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure - I'm not that far into it.

And then there's some games I haven't even thought about buying like Galaxy 2 and DKCR.

I better put that statement into the opening post.

WHAT?!

I can understand that. Took me almost a year of on-off playing to finish that game.

Fire Emblem games are always ones I prefer to play on-off over a long period of time, rather than just plowing through (Layton is another series I like to do this with), so I can see why he might not have quite finished it yet.

As for me, I have nothing in my backlog (on any console actually!). Just enjoying playing through Mario Galaxy 1 and Phantom Hourglass again currently :)

I know, right?! On the last chapter, just need a final push really.

Looking at my list, I'll probably go with:

  1. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  2. Ryhthm Paradise
  3. Sam & Max (should be short, right?)
  4. Kirby's Adventure
  5. Sonic Unleashed

Bonus If I get time:

  1. Project Zero 2
  2. Opoona
  3. Disaster: Day of Crisis
  4. Pikmin 2

I find it hard to sit and complete console games these days, which is probably the main reason my backlog is so big.

Yeah, but this is Lord Ike we are talking about here.

Sam & Max can be short if you are used to thinking in the way that those games make you think....if that makes any sense. :D

Seeing as you are nearing the end of Fire Emblem the longest one on your list is probably Sonic Unleashed.

I think Xenoblade will be the real challenge
Definitely. Especially if you're going to restart.

It took me 76 hours to complete (without doing all of the side-quests). If you want to 100% it, then you're probably looking at 100+ hours.

My Wii Backlog is pretty tiny now, just 3 uncompleted games:

de Blob 2 - over halfway through I think, just wasn't enjoying it as much as the first one though. :hmm:

Okami - quite far into this one too, I'm at a boss that I just can't seem to beat.

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins - similar to Okami, I reached a point in this game that I couldn't seem to pass and just left it... ::shrug:

Out of those 3, the one I'd most like to finish is Okami, but I reckon I could easily get 'em all done before the Wii U hits.

Figure'd it was short because it's a point 'n' click :P

Yeah, I picked the shorter games or ones I've already started to get them out of the way of the bigger ones. Don't think Unleashed will be too long without 100%-ing it.

Looking at my Wii games on the shelf, the only games I haven't finished are Little King's Story, Muramasa and Red Steel 2 and there's no way I can go back in to them with the saves I have. Tried it with LKS and it was a bit disorienting having not played it for well over a year, probably nearer 2.

So I'd have to start both again. More willing to give RS2 another go than the others as it's a pretty straightforward game from what I remember and I don't really have the patience for the other two at the moment.

Red Steel 2 then, if I decide to boot up my Wii and have a go.

Zelda - Skyward Sword. Pandora's Tower. Xenoblade Chronicals. The Last Story.

All special editions, all started but never finished.

Bought them more for the collector in me really. Was going to wait until the WiiU to play them on that (Assuming there is BC, as I have no idea tbh!)

My only other Wii game is Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Hmmm, backlog games for mah Wii I'd like to finish before the WiiU comes over here, huh?

Well, when it comes to console gaming I'll probably complete F-Zero GX and then start with Killer 7.

Still going through Xenoblade with a friend, and I'm unsure whether or not we'll finish that before WiiU.

I'm not sure how long Killer 7 is, but if there's time left I think I might go out and buy one of the following:

Opoona

Eledees

Deadly Creatures

I'm quite in the mood for obscurity :)

Good luck everyone!

I am terrible at completing my games. More often than not, I play a game once then forget to ever go back to it. Some I haven't even played once! I made a list a while back to keep track of my incomplete Wii games, so I guess I may as well share it here! I've put it in spoiler tags because it's a loooong list, and there may be a couple of minor (obviously not late-game) spoilers in there.

-Maybe I should?

Xenoblade Chronicles

-Story-wise, I believe I was heading to Prison Island.

There's probably a lot of games on that list that will make people say "Why haven't you finished/touched this game?!" If that's the case, feel free to suggest a game for me to complete from that list, because I don't know where to start. =P

The Wii was a strange console for me. I gave a lot of games a chance, but just didn't want to finish them.

Started, but didn't finish:

Punch Out

Little King's Story

Red Steel 2

Xenoblade

A Boy & His Blob

Wario Land: Shake Dimension

...Out of all those, the one I'd like to finish most would be A Boy & His Blob. It's a great game, but the puzzles became too fiddly for me in World 4. The one that really bugs me though is Super Mario Galaxy 2. I consider myself to have "completed" it (as I got 241 Stars), but wish I'd got all 242. Then again, I had hundreds of tries and it genuinely made me feel ill (one of the strangest experiences I've had), so you have to call it a day sometime.

Anyway, it's all academic as I've sold them all!

Didn't buy (but would quite like to):

New Super Mario Bros

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Kirby's Epic Yarn

I'll try to put a more positive spin on it at first, by listing games that I'm very close to finishing and probably wouldn't take too long to finally complete:

Little King's Story - Really just a case of finishing side-quests before I set off for the end boss.

No More Heroes 2 - That bastard of a final boss. Got seconds away from finally finishing him off ages ago and then got a disc error. Never went back to it.

Sin & Punishment 2 - Final boss, but it's so stupidly difficult that I wonder if I can ever beat it.

--------------

Games I'm quite a bit away from finishing:

Muramasa: The Demon Blade - I've actually completed it with one of the characters, but that's only half the game. Stuck hard on some boss with the other - I want to progress further to collect more kick-ass swords.

Tenchu 4 - Think I'm just shy of half-way through. It's a thoroughly average game on the whole, and I'm not sure I'll ever get back to it. I own it because it was going for £4 new in HMV last summer.

-------------

Games I've barely started:

Project Zero 2 - Only played it once so far! I tell myself that I can only play it at night so I can sink in the atmosphere, but when it actually gets to the end of the day, I just feel tired and apathetic.

Okami - I have well-documented issues with this game. One day, I will return to it with a freshened mind. One day.

I've only got MotoHeroz left to finish. Played everything I've wanted on Wii. There's the odd title I've missed, such as Deadly Creatues and Opoona, but I'm past caring about them now.

As for future purchases, I'll get Retro City Rampage if it ever comes to WiiWare, along with Epic Mickey:The Power of Two unless there's a WiiU version.
