I PASSED MY CBT! WOO!

Recommended Posts

So yeah, I passed my CBT test today and I'm majorly happy about it, especially because it was absolutely pissing it down and I got drenched and because at one point, it was so bad that I couldn't see that far in front of me and I'm still alive. Fuck yeah!

Got my certificate and I am now legal to ride 125cc bikes on the road for two years. I was with another student today and he didn't pass unfortunately, which is such a shame!

However, I passed and I'm so Goddamn happy about it! I did the figure of eight, the u-turns and the emergency stops very easily. However, on the road, I panicked a little at the start because I was out on the open road and it was raining. However, I pulled myself together and managed to do it!

The only fault I had was that I forgot to cancel the indicators after completing my turning. I'm so used to the car cancelling them automatically that I forgot.

But fuck all that, I passed! Now onto my theory and my full test. So have you guys done the full test? The CBT? The theory? How hard are they? Did you find them easy?

Oh and here's a picture of me looking like a 90s raver/biker!

Congratulations! Now if you could just add another 25cc to that somehow, you could do all the races in Mario Kart.

CBT is also a porn thing, by the way. :p

Close! It's short for 'cock and ball torture'. :p

Maybe it's a good thing you didn't know that beforehand, Dazz, or you would have been even more nervous.

The theory test is basically a bunch of questions that you have to get so many right of as well as a hazard perception test, where you have to spot hazards early on. All of this is on the computer though.

As far as I know, the full bike test is in two parts: Module 1 and 2. Basically, it's to let you ride on bikes higher than a 125cc so you can ride on anything above it.

I really need to do it by the end of the year though because it's going to be tougher and the law will change saying that those who are under 25 and didn't pass their full test before the date of the law change can't ride anything higher than a 125cc until they're 25, which sucks!

Congrats Dazz.

I never bothered with CBT and have no intention of doing that or full bike. Cars all the way for me! :p Think I just enjoy the benefits of a car too much over a bike!

Thanks everybody for your congrats!

Mike: I thought that until I rode a bike, now I just want one so bad! haha. It'll be awesome but in the rain, it's HORRIBLE! I got caught in what I could only describe as the replica of Niagra Falls! haha.

Gratz, and what the hell did the guy do to not get his certificate signed off? I did mine with a guy who went missing for half the road portion and still got his cert signed off. Also, rain riding is fucking ace.

I did my test about a year ago, (restricted, not direct access) the theory test is exactly the same as the car theory but with like two motorcycle specific questions IIRC. I have no idea if the practicals are the same, but MOD1 should be easy if you're good with the slalom and u-turn, just don't hit a cones (and get over the psychological block of the avoidance exercise (COUNTERSTEERING :D)).

MOD2 should be easy, I personally think it would be easier then the car practical but I haven't done the car one. I failed the first time doing it but for a silly reason (took a left hand turn slightly too quickly, the examiner said I didn't have enough time to make sure there was no cars in the way). The second time I passed easily, I even took a wrong turn and still passed :)

Well done! Was super nervous when I took mine but it was good fun and worthwhile. The full test over here is an absolute joke in comparison.

He almost went under a Land Rover. We were all supposed to stick to the left lane but he kind of veered onto the right lane and almost hit a Land Rover. Also, when he was avoiding parked cars, he went in the opposite side of the road. It's bad doing that, I know, but the rain came down so heavy and even I struggled to see what were in front of me but I knew what I had to do. At one stage, him and the examiner went right off because a car decided to be a dickhead and overtake me on a roundabout when there was hardly any room! One of those boy racer dickheads who thought they were hard. Wanker!

Those tests don't sound too hard but watch me get an absolute Hitler on my test! haha. What did you have to do on both modules exactly if you can remember?

Congrats! :D I've never got around to getting any sort of driver's license. :heh:

Thanks! And Dannyboy, do your car and bike license, you won't regret it! :p

I passed my cbt a year and a half ago on an automatic scooter, the girl who also did her cbt with me failed. She was really nervous and nearly got herself killed on several occasions. I now ride a geared vespa, which I taught myself how to use. I've never taken my full test, because I'm hoping to have passed my driving test in the next 6 months! Well done on passing your cbt. It's a bitch in the rain, but it's England and you get used to it!

How do you actually get around to going out on a motorbike or something? I mean, I have a full driving license, I understand that I just need to essentially prove my ability to ride a bike. So do you have to buy one first? Is there places you can go and just pay to get on one and ride around some cones in a car park?

You need to do the cbt, no matter what driving license you hold. You go on a day course which teaches you how to ride A scooter/ motorbike. If the instructors think you're good enough then you get a certificate to say you can ride a 125cc powered bike. If not then you do the course again. You have to have an l plate on your bike until you do the full bike test. The certificate only last for 2 years, after this time you will need to either pass your full test, give up, or take the cbt course again. If you're interested i can give you the details for the guy i did my cbt with, he was great! It costs about £120 for the course. :-)

Well that makes sense haha

Those tests don't sound too hard but watch me get an absolute Hitler on my test! haha. What did you have to do on both modules exactly if you can remember?

Right, I may miss something out but this should be most everything.

Module 1 -

Get on bike, don't hit cones. (or put you're feet down while moving I guess, or drop the bike or etc :p)

First things first is walking the bike out of a parking bay and into another/ This can be surprising difficult if you park in the wrong bay and have to compete with the bike trying to fall away from you while turning. Also, if you kick a cone here you're out which catches some people out.

Then onto the slow speed manouevers. Which iirc, includes slalom directly into figure of 8. u-turn. slow speed ride. coming to a stop (even though this is possibly the simplest thing I nearly failed here because I over thought [ieverything[/i] and put my foot down slightly too early).

Then there is the two highspeed manouevers. Both start off by accelerating through the curve then really gun it just before straightening out. You need to be at 60km/h I think it was, and on a 125cc it can be hard accelerating to the right speed in the distance they give (obv if you do direct access and are doing this on a 500 reaching the required speed shouldn't be a problem).

Emergency Stop - guy puts his hand up you emergency stop. If you stall it doesn't matter just remember your mirror checks. for emergency stopping you want to mostly use your front brake for obvious reasons and just a little bit of back brake to squat the bike down.

Avoidance - You come out of the curve and then through a set of cones which look like this

......:

:...........:

e: hmm the formatting for this isn't showing up in the post :(

e:ignore the dots and pretend the semi colons are the cones

but not as exaggerated, when first trying this he cones look silly distance apart and you wonder how the hell are you meant to do this omg I'm gonna die. But you have to realise it's like 75cm and with countersteering this is eaaasy. Just don't target fixate on a cone and you'll be fine.

After this the guy will let you out of the compund and as long as you don't hit any cones on your way out you'll have passed. (I'll write what I remember of module 2 out after breakfast :) )

well shit, looks what I found

http://www.orangebikers.com/mma%20right%20circuit.jpg

This is the right hand circuit for module 1. It seems apart from the order the only thing I forgot to mention was that you get two tries at the high speed manouevers to reach the correct speed.

Magnus, obviously.

Gratz, and what the hell did the guy do to not get his certificate signed off?

The guy who took me for mine once told me that he failed sombody because he told them to turn right at the roundabout, so they did, turn right, onto the roundabout.
