Nintendo development list

Recommended Posts

I put together a list of Nintendo's various teams and partners and what they're currently working on, thought I'd share it. I'll update as and when more information is available. Feel free to add any more you can think of. I think the first/second party status is right but open to corrections! I’ve listed internal teams as first-party; studios part-owned by Nintendo as second-party; and studios Nintendo is developing with, or has commissioned work by, as third-party.

How lazy are nintendos teams, they're not working on anything. No wonder e3 was so shit

Thanks for posting that @daftada. Some predictions:

EAD 1 - Mario Kart

EAD Tokyo - 3D Mario

I think it's quite likely the above is what the remaining EADs are working on, although of course it's hard to say whether Mario would be EAD Tokyo 1 or 2. The following are more hopes than predictions, but they're still feasible:

SPD 1 - Metroid V

Grezzo - Majora's Mask 3D

Retro Studios - Metroid Prime 4

Since Miyamoto's recent comments about Zelda being in the very early stages, I'm under the assumption that it will once again be by EAD 3, whereas Retro Studio's project is more likely to be another Metroid.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Good Feel are up to, really hoping for a Yoshi's Island on 3ds, completely drawn with chunky crayons! Also intruiged as to what AlphaDream are doing with themselves since Nintendo have Paper Mario on 3ds it doesn't really leave room for another Mario & Luigi RPG.

Man, why isn't there a list of this on the internets?

...Well, now there is :heh: And it should be stickied, I think.

Couple of mistakes there. EAD Comprehensive Group is not a seperate team within EAD. It's just a term for EAD as a whole.

Also Retro Studios and Creatures are 1st party, not 2nd; while Monster Games and Next Level Games are 3rd party, not 2nd.

With that in mind, I've fixed up your list, added Asobism (Who are a second party who are made up of ex Skip Ltd staff and made Freakyforms) as well as NST & Q-Games and added missing games.

Just before I list these games I'd just like to note that EAD doesn't work like most other studios. While there are 5 different EAD teams, EAD is actually just one big studio. The way it works is that there is a central pool of production staff, who are distributed throughout each project team (headed by different individuals) as and when is needed. So there is no one "best" EAD studio. EAD Tokyo is the exception though, due to geographical distance.

I've underlined the developers whose status is currently unknown (aren't I just so helpful? )

Even if it's just one of their projects (I don't expect the whole staff to be working on it), won't HAL be the ones doing Kirby 20th Anniversary?

I was still editing it as you typed that up, but thanks for pointing that out anyway! :D

Right! Speculation time!

Alphadream: Mario & Luigi for Wii U! With Paper Mario going handheld, it's only logical that M&L comes to the big screen (1080p sprite based goodness across 2 screens )

Skip: Hopefully a new batch of Art Style games for 3DS, just think of what they could do with them in 3D :D

Arika: A new batch of 3D Classics titles (COME ON ALTTP 3D!!!)

Retro Studios (AKA, the big one): You could dedicate an entire thread to just them! Whatever is happening with them, I hope it's a new IP! It's about time that they finally got the chance to work on something completely original!

Good Feel: I think they've been typecasted as the go-to guys for hand drawn 2D platformers. Whatever it'll be, it'll be on Wii U in 1080p and it'll be beautiful!

Monster Games: After Pilotwings Resort, they could be working on just about anything! :o Maybe even Wii Sports U!

NST: They've been bulking up massively over the past year or so, with a huge injection of talent. Seems that they're going to be finally working on big projects again :D Hopefully it's something a bit more western focused (I'd love to see them get a crack at working on an original FPS!)

I'm actually hoping that they won't make another Metroid. A brand new franchise, maybe an FPS would be excellent.

n-Space - Skylanders: Giants (3DS)

They've also got Heroes of Ruin and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D, of course, but I guess they're done with the former considering it's being released in a few days, and they did say RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D was ready, so I guess there's no need adding those to the list?

Ahh, forgot about Skylanders!

I only added RCTycoon for the sake of completeness really, but since I don't wanna make it too messy, I've removed it in favour of Skylanders.

Thanks!

Just to add to what others have been saying about Retro Studios. As much as I love Metroid I hope they're working on something original. That would a) expand Nintendo's IPs and b) show us what Retro can actually do.

I don't know if this list is supposed to list everything, or just the big titles about 3rd parties, but is missing Mirror of Fate by MercuryStream/Konami.

I mean, Castlevania is still 'big' franchise. Is it?

The 3rd party list is only games that are published by Nintendo and 3rd party developers who have long standing relationships with Nintendo (Like Q-Games, who in the past have made games like Starfox Command, Reflect Missile, 3D Spacetank and Art-Style Intersect for Nintendo)

Stuff like Castlevania is entirely separate and has nothing to do with Nintendo themselves.

No. In fact they're currently working on a multiplat game for 360/PS3/Wii U

I can't take Retro Studios' mystery game.

I MUST KNOW!

I so hope for some kind of trailer during the pre-launch conference for the WiiU.

I've tidied up the list, with some of your suggestions (Thanks @Dcubed :D )

Predictions/wish list:

Miyamoto (he's pretty much an entire group all by himself) - Original IP, small concept, possibly digital format.

Retro - I think Retro have had two development teams since they started Metroid Prime Trilogy, with one focussing on that and the other working on DKCR. I think we'll see the return of RavenBlade, and possibly Starfox.

Monster Games F-Zero for 3DS, and Excite Trucks 2 for Wii U :)

NST - They're either working on Metroid Prime 4, or a new FPS IP. Or Mach Rider!

Good Feel - I wonder if they're involved in NSMB U somehow, just a feeling! I'd love a 2D, hand-drawn Yoshi's Island next from them.

Arika - They better be making Endless Ocean 3. Can't decide if I want a 3DS or Wii U version more though.

Grezzo - Either MM or LttP remake. Or they could be in charge of the new 3DS Zelda

Grr, darksnowman!!! I could cope without Metroid Prime 4 (although it'd be nice), but to have no Metroid V/Metroid Dread would be a waste!
