Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) .gifv is not an image type. You can't load it with image tags because it's not an image. It is a marketing ploy by imgur, nothing more than a webm with a different filetype. It needs to be embedded as an object to be played. So it would need a completely specific tag adding, which is pointless when you can just remove the v and display the gif, which will work on all devices.
