Mixing for theaters and not going back in (properly) for a home release is simultaneously the most and least Nolan thing possible. Every single time I watch one of his films at home I need to keep the remote in hand and be ready to go from 30 up to 70 and back again at the drop of a hat :nono:

I like to think Christopher Nolan is a hardcore Nickelodeon fan with some of the casting choices for Oppenheimer

Unless I'm getting mixed up he was in How I Met Your Father and I don't think the Barbie movie is missing anything.

And while we're at it:

Hey, as a kid raised in the 2000's, Josh Peck is a treasure for what he did in Drake & Josh (and also HIMYF just wasn't great across the board). Drake Bell on the other hand?

Yeah HIMYF was mediocre.

I hadn't watched D&J but @Josh64 filled me in on Drake and eesh.

First teaser (I guess?) for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which Universal have decided to just loop on their channel ::shrug:

Still can't believe they got a real nuke for the purpose of filming :p

Surprised there's been no mention of No Time to Die anywhere. Has no-one else watched it?

Spoiler

Ok, what the fuck? What the hell was that ending?

Killing off Bond?! That's a genuinely shocking thing to do. I know how people often complain that there is no tension because you know that the hero will always survive, but to kill off James Bond?!

I thought the twist when Safin attacks Bond with the poison was great - but then to have Bond basically kill himself (he could definitely have gotten away if he'd wanted to)...i'm not sure how I feel about it. It just feels very un-Bond.

How does this impact the films in the future? Are they not making any more? Are they just going to reboot?

I thought Safin was a bit of a crap bad guy. He didn't really have much of a presence in the film. They spent too long focusing on Blofeld at the beginning, which made Safin a bit underdeveloped i think. I thought Malek could have done a bit more with the character too, he just seemed a bit vacuous.

I realised the issue I have with the Daniel Craig films, is that by going for a realistic, grittier tone, and losing the lighter, jokier aspect, it makes it way more difficult to accept the way he and the other agents go around murdering all these people. I get that they are the bad guys, but it makes the supposed good guys acts harder to justify. Like when Nomi hits the scientist in the face to shut him up, and then just pushes him into the acid; those are very 'bad guy' things to do...

When you had Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan shooting a guy and making a bad quip as he died, it didn't feel so callous, because the whole tone of the films were a bit silly and non-realistic.

Saw it a few months ago, can't remember much about it. I've struggled with the last few Bond films, Casino Royale was amazing, and Quantum of Solace was watchable, but everything since I just find way too bleak and depressing. I really miss the more fun Pierce Brosnan days, but I'm probably in the minority.

In my mind all of the Craig films kind of blend into one. I agree about the bleakness and the Pierce Brosnan era.  Granted Die Another Day may have gone too far, but Bond films should be over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek and a bit silly. I blame the Bourne films, and Austin Powers a bit. The Bond higher-ups were presented with two ends of the spectrum, and they chose to go in the Bourne direction with it.

I think the over-arching narrative is why all the films blend into one, each one doesn't have as much of a unique storyline like the previous Bond films do.

I think around the time Craig was hired, "gritty" was the big buzzword when it came to films and tv shows so they went in that direction and like you say, copied the Bourne films. Hopefully the next set of Bond films strike a good balance. I think Casino Royale did that pretty well. It was fun but also down to earth.

Yeah that was my other issue with NTTD. My wife asked before it started if she needed to know anything from the previous bond films, and i told her that i couldn't remember much of what happened in them, but that Bond films tended to stand alone. 20 minutes in and she was already asking who Vespa was, how did she die, who Madeleine was, who Blofeld was, who Felix was etc. I couldn't remember!

Watched Sonic the Hedgehog 2 yesterday for the first time.

It was an absolute mess.

Spoiler

First of all, James Marsden and the other live actors except Jim Carrey were completely pointless and useless. Everything that happened with them was completely irrelevant to the story. The wedding scene was absurd and just so much out of place that I almost had to fast-forward the movie at that point.

Then the plot of the movie, while at first it seemed alright, but then I realised that the entire movie could have been avoided had Sonic and Tails not gone to Siberia. There was just no point in them finding that compass, was there?

There was also so many plot holes and errors in the movie that it just got funny. Knuckles could avoid Sonic but not a car? Sonic sprinting over water, trips, and then the scene cuts to him being washed up on the beach that he was racing towards - just in time to save the day? Him crashing though the ceiling of the temple instead of going the right way? Everything that happened at the wedding? Why didn't Marsden's character just show the right ring? Did Sonic even need to be saved at that point? Disco lights just suddenly arriving at a tavern in Siberia? A full tavern in Siberia when a snow storm was raging outside - in a very remote place, it seemed. I could go on...

The first half of the movie was also very much focused on kids. While I enjoyed the first movie for what it was, it also wasn't only catering to kids, but this one seemed to stoop lower and the comedic scenes were just not funny for adults, I think. That dance scene in Siberia was just so much out of place.

Eggman and Knuckles were the highlights of the movie, I think they were well-executed. It seemed that Carrey's line were written by himself and were mostly just one-liners that were meant to entertain, and they did.

The scene up to the Shadow reveal was awful. Suddenly they had a 50 years old project that looked like Sonic, whom they never knew off 5 years ago? What's up with that? How did they create Shadow then, and how should he be able to keep up with Sonic? Seems weird (but will watch the third movie nonetheless).

However, I did enjoy the final fight against Eggman as well as the scenes in the temple. Those things felt very much like a Sonic game.

According to IMDb, this movie was as good as the first but that's just not true at all. While the first was a 6 or 7, this was more like a 4. Out of 10, obviously.

It was not as good as the first, I think that's very fair to say. A lot of what you pointed out was true, especially regarding the wedding.

I enjoyed it as throwaway entertainment, but I found myself craving more intellectual stimulation afterwards. Asimov was the answer.

First real trailer for Oppenheimer - Nolan's next movie:

Not that impressed, to be honest. It's an interesting story but it feels a bit pretentious.

Saw this trailer in the cinema before Avatar 2, and it looked incredible. Didn't have any hype for it before that, but now I think I might try and catch it.

Really enjoyed Avatar 2. Wish I'd been able to see it in IMAX, or even just in 3D, but my wife has been having mega travel sickness with her pregnancy, and thought she'd best stay clear of anything 3D. I still enjoyed the film though. I get the criticisms of the plot, but I think as an action spectacle, it's great.

Watched Everything Everywhere All At Once. It was pretty good. It's a great idea, executed well, but I don't really get all the awards it's winning. It's a solid 8/10 though.
