What happened on the 3/7/2008?

Recommended Posts

So I don't know if this is thread-worthy or what, but I've been wondering this for a while.

At the bottom of the main forum page it says who is online and how many members and guests there are etc. It also says the following:

Most users ever online was 851, 03-07-2008 at 12:48 AM.

Now I think I may have been online then, but I can't remember. I also can't remember what the hell was happening that day to make so many people visit N-E.

So my question to you: What happened on the 3rd of July 2008? Was there some big release I've forgotten about? Was N-E in the news? Why were there so many goddam people online? Am I missing something really obvious, and thus making myself look like a massive tool?

I JUST DON'T KNOW!

(Disclaimer: I realise a lot of things happened on the 3rd July 2008, but I am specifically referring to something that would make 851 people visit N-E)

hmmm indeed this is a mystery...bizzare...was there a major game release? But then E3 was just around the corner seems unlikely.

Remember when Nintendo did that awful E3 presentation (Cammie's first appearance)?

It's most likely that, well I remember a lot of people arguing about it.

It was that year but it was several days after this particular day.

If it was just before E3 that year, maybe there was some sort of leaked news that came out on that date?

Was it not the big megaton announcement everyone was waiting for from Nintendo and it failed to materialise.

Ok so I checked the archives.

these were the last articles posted to the main site on July 2nd 2008

News: ONM Hint At Animal Crossing Wii

News: Pokémon Hitting WiiWare This Friday

And these were all the articles posted on July 3rd

News: Plättchen Hits US WiiWare July

N64 Day 5/6 - OoT VS MM - Complete!

N64 Day 7- Your Choice - Completed!

News: Brawl 'Had More Characters'

None of those stand out as to a reason why the boards could have been so busy that day.... mystery

Was it not the big megaton announcement everyone was waiting for from Nintendo and it failed to materialise.

That was back in the Gamecube days, so that would have been well before 2006

I think it was some Nintendo news site linked to the post on the boards.

Maybe it was the next-generation DS at E3 2008 rumour?

Maybe there was a new episode of Comedy Rainbow?

It does sound the most logical answer to this mystery so far.

No one kills a joke like ReZ.

So basically nobody knows, and Dante may have possibly got it but we're not sure. Do you happen to remember which site Dante? I want to go check out their archives for this here link.

Basically I have my questioning hat on and seeing as I've always wondered what it was I figured I'd ask.

It wasn't around the time of the "Epic Thread" was it?, or something similar.
