I try not to be too annoyed when I speak about v day, my friends are all coupled up (which imo is great because I get on just as well with their other halves as I do the original friend) and I'm quite happy being the single one of the group.

But this day just annoys the hell out of me, it's a day that's not even suppose to celebrate love the way it does and some of the stuff people buy for this day is truly awful. I can understand wanting a day to hang out and show your love and all that, but what about every other day of the year? Surely you don't need this day, to me it truly is, whether I'm in a relationship or not, fast becoming single awareness day rather than valentines day.

But the issues raised people see me as jealous or resentful because I'm currently single, which is just not true. It's a shame people see it that way, but it's such a crappy day.

I'll either be driving back to Sheffield or I'll be here at home. Either way I'm ignoring it, like I do every bloody year.

It's just another day, really.. much like Christmas was last year ::shrug:

If you have someone, you should treat them well all year round and not need one specific day where you pull out all the stops..

...Another Valentines Day, another night alone touching myself in a small, dark corner of my bedroom.

Co-op are doing these amazing valentines day cupcakes that are like iced sex, so I'll be burying my sorrows with those instead of having any actual iced sex.

don't forget the earl grey! I'll be round in a toot =P

This is another one of those threads that nerds on forums hate because they don't have girlfriends :)

Yes it's commercial tat but a lot of couples do actually enjoy it. Most holidays are commercial at this point anyway.. As if christmas would still exist without it.

Enjoy yourself during it

It's not particularly fair to assume that every nerd doesn't have a girlfriend and that they will be lonely feckers getting jealous of everyone else is it?

I am so on about those cupcakes. They better have some when I go n-ers.

Cringey responses here. Grumpy old N-E.

You can bet that the day after it'll all be sold-off for pennies too, that's the most laughable part :p commercialisation ftl...

High ho stinge-o awayyyyyy!

Nothing special, but just a meal which we do pretty much once a month anyway.

Romance isn't dead. Its just meted out once a month nowadays eh?

Personally, this is the first time since let me think back, a cheap studenty 2007 Valentines Day that I've had anyone to care about so yar, I fully intend to make an occasion of it!

:hehe: (Then obviously that will be it til next February. Cos thats how things work, right guys?)

Come on guys / gals, cheer up... :) If you really want to find a partner, what is stopping you?

Exactly. Also, feel free to change the concept if you like...In Finland, the event is called Ystävänpäivä, i.e. "Friend Day". That's also where the focus is, on friendship...

Anyway, what's the theme here? LOVE. Towards your partner, your friends, and especially yourself...The whole point is to celebrate this joyous, wonderful feeling that is love...and you don't need a partner to tap into it.

For me, I might write a little poem for my friends, or just hug them and tell how grateful I am for having them in my life. I can also feel joy for those that have already found a partner :) Yes, I do want to find a partner myself as well, someone to touch, kiss and hold in my arms as I lovingly gaze into her eyes...Still, I don't have to wait for that to be happy. I can feel love for myself and others right now :) Just a matter of being open and focusing on everything you really want from life and like about it...After all, love is a positive feeling, so if you wish to tune into its frequency, you need to focus on positive things as well...

Hells yeah Ville!

V day is so pressurising but let's face it, if you do feel that way the only person putting pressure on you is yourself. It is another day and most couples think it's stupid and lame so don't go thinking "it's ok for you.. you're in a relationship" cos you really aren't missing out by being in one!

Ah, February 14th. Just another day, as i don't believe that love should be celebrated on 1 sodding day of the year. There are 365 days a year to celebrate love, and if i had a missus i wouldn't be buying her anything for Valentines Day. Because i don't celebrate fake holidays.

Being single (and proud of it), i won't be doing anything out of the ordindary tomorrow. 25 years of singledom and counting.

I'm not a fan of valentines day and I've been in a relationship for each one for the past five or so years.

Throughout this I've just explained to my other halves that I don't do the whole valentines thing. There's never been an issue. If you are honest and have a healthy relationship where appreciation of each other is the norm then Valentines day shouldn't be a big deal.

Unfortunately we live in a world where we are told that we should almost justify or define our relationships through what we buy. Valentines day is just for businesses.

Do another installment of Splash Claire. And whilst she runs off to the bathroom to dry off/pack her bags to leave you'll have time to sign the card.

Tonight for Valentine's Day I'll be taking the missus out for a meal, gives me an excuse to wear the suit I got for Christmas.

And got her this:

The only thing I'm doing this valentine's day is making sure I don't go out. I ended up in a club one valentine's day and it was a nightmare. Single slags off thier heads, trying to latch onto any bloke not with a bird. Terrible night.

I've never really understood the premise of Valentines Day. Like, I understand what it started out as but as others have said, it's now a cesspool of commercialism that's moving further and further away from its original idea.

Similarly, the whole one day set aside to show someone how much you like/love them. Maybe I'm an old fashioned romantic or something but if I really liked/loved someone, I'd be trying to prove it every single day rather than on one mark in the calender aimed at shifting stuff no one wants or needs (Roses for example. I get the symbolism but there are more interesting and beautiful flowers you could give someone. Tiger lilies for example).

So yes, I won't be doing anything although that's probably because I'm single. Even if I wasn't single, I wouldn't be doing anything special on the day.

The other half and I have decided that we are too poor to partake in this particular consumerist holiday.
