Bond 23 - SkyFall

The film was perfect. It had the right mix of modern and classic Bond, a good story with the right amount of humour in the right places, plenty of moments for supporting characters to shine and excellent action sequences with no shaky cam in site. I didn't want it to end. Roll on Bond 24!!

 

And the car...the Bond car they picked is perfect (if you don't know what it is - don't look it up, wait until the reveal in the film).

 

 

I knew the DB5 was featured in Skyfall, but I didn't expect it to be kitted out! Two of my favourite little moments were when Bond revealed the ejector seat trigger to M, and then at the end when he suprised the minions from the parked Aston with the front machine guns. I had to refrain myself from clapping loudly at the cinema

was perfect and got me excited for the next film. Even the room was great to look at.

 

Completely agree. I thought this was the best Bond for a long while. There seemed to be more of an actual plot, the characters were set up really well.

 

The sewer/tube chase was great, the shoot out at M's hearing was brilliant and the ending was brilliant when they were defending from the house. They set up the next film really well with Q and the new M (Ralph Fiennes was a great choice). I really hope they can live up to the hype they've now built for the next film!

 

One thing I have just remembered, that girl from the casino who brings Bond to Silver... I was surprised to see her killed off and not really amount to anything. Looking back it seems a bit too convenient seeing as she had no other purpose and Bond didn't even care when she was killed.

Yeah this was mildly sublime.

 

The mix of old and new was utterly utterly perfect - extremely well executed.

 

Villain was amazing, I loved to work on his sexuality.

Went to see this last night. Absolutely loved it.

 

The Bond car reveal was perfect. I loved the scene in the car when he was showing M the gadgets.

 

Scene in the house was great. Apart from do you really think all those trained operatives would just walk past the car and not even look inside?...

 

The product placement was nowhere near as bad I was expecting to be. There wasn't much at all, nothing like Casino Royale.

 

Was very surprised they killed off M/Judi Dench! Was pretty gutted about that.

 

 

 

Skyfall, my new favourite Bond film and Daniel Craig is by far the best Bond!

I have to agree with everything you've said. Plus, some of the locations they found were absolutely incredible. I mean the

neon-lit sniper room, the floating casino, the abandoned city... they were all INCREDIBLE.

 

 

I also loved the nods to previous Bond films. They were widely advertised as being there, but some really stood out.

 

- I didn't see the car being kitted out at ALL - I knew it would be the Aston, but not the original gadgeted-up Aston. The fact he used the front machine guns was brilliant.

- Wasn't a fan of the Kimodo dragons, but redeemed it when he jumped off the back of one of them a la Roger Moore leaping over Alligators.

 

 

I'm sure there were more but I forget them. Need to watch it again!

 

Also listened to the theme tune again today, and it means more now:

 

"Let the sky fall. When it crumbles, we will stand tall and face it all together, at Skyfall."

Did you stop watching after 30 minutes? Because I'll grant you the first thirty minutes are a bit average, but to claim the following bits as boring is ludicrous on an outrageous scale.

 

I've even factored in the Daft factor, but the math still doesn't add up.

It just wasn't very interesting and actually kind of predictable in places.

 

Bad guy allows himself to get captures. Predictable. Q, don't plug the computer into the network, you'll get hacked. Predictable. M doesn't survive this film, because Ralph 'Mallory' Fiennes is going to replace her. Predictable.

 

There is that weird regressive retcon to the old movies at the end. Why bother rebooting Bond if you're just going to work your way back to the exact same set-up of previous films? Also, the whole M/Bond, Mother/Son relationship thing completely missed the mark.

 

It was poorly edited, too. I'm actually really surprised you liked it.

I found the film to be enjoyable - not the best Bond ever, like the reviews have said. But there were plenty of "huh?" moments in it for me, which pulled me out of the experience a little. And one in particular which was so glaring that it made the entire movie make no sense at all.

 

How did Bond survive being shot twice and a 300 foot drop into water, wasn't even attempted to be explained.

Why would that assassin carry a casino chip with him to a job?

Why would Bond go on that girl's yacht when he knew who she worked for, and act like he's on holiday when he knew he'd be surrounded by his henchmen? Why would they allow him on board? The only thing I can think of is that they wanted to watch the inevitable sex show.

And the biggest one of all - if Silva's intention was to simply kill M, why did he go to the immense trouble of hacking the MI6 network, causing an explosion, getting himself captured, then hacking the system again (I thought he'd already done that) to release himself, disguise himself as a policeman, then try to kill her while she's surrounded by armed guards, when all he had to do was just go to her home address (which I'm sure he could have found out easily) and done it there. It just seemed like the writers wanted the story to be about a rogue agent wanting revenge on M and realised it was a bit light, so they had him jump through all kinds of hoops just for shits and giggles.

 

 

 

I still liked the film - the action and set pieces were excellent, and the throwbacks were good, although odd considering they'd rebooted the franchise and were trying to get away from the old fashioned stuff. And Bardem was immense as the villain - been a while since we've had such a memorable Bond baddie.

I don't think that was his sole intention, more like the ultimate goal.

 

He wanted to tear MI6 apart, make M lose everything. He was clearly deranged (beyond normal Bond villain psycho) as you could see from how he acted. He wanted M to answer for her 'crimes' and couldn't even kill her himself right at the end; he wanted her to pull the trigger on them both. He was just mental :p

Just got back from watching it earlier, now that was a Bond movie.

 

A great chase at the beginning, not sure how the heck Bond can survive being shot and falling 300ft into the water. The whole bad guy tearing MI5 down from the inside was done well, probably one of the best villians in Silva. And the whole end was supurb. The tube crash scene was epic, and "Q" was good. And also niave, plugging a hackers laptop into your own network.

 

The killing of Judi Dench's "M", surprising. But i was expecting a new "M" from the start

 

 

And the many references to the earlier movies throughout

 

In my opinion, with Bond going into the office to the new "M". I'm surprised that it hasn't been said, that it touches on the earlier Bonds. A male "M" behind a leather sofa-style door, Moneypenny in the office (the coat hook in place as usual). And Bond jumping on the comodo dragons like Moore on the crocodiles (aka Live and Let Die). Nice tick to the exploding pen and DB5.

 

And a swear i spotted Dalton in the opening credits as well.

Please, Le Chiffre was awesome with real motivation. Silva was an old school, over the top, camp (literally) villain, who's motivation was he was off his rocker.

 

In fact, Casino Royale is just generally phenomenal.

Just seen those and wow it was so DAMN awesome, one of the best Bond's kept the newer style and brought in loads of old elements, it was the perfect bond film formula

I think I agree. I say I think.. because the film itself was kinda ruined for me.. although ironically the cinema experience made, by a girl a few seats to my left, and one row behind, asking her friend/s "did he used to be a spy?". This was the scene were we first see him in his cell....just after the scene in which he had explained who he was....

well my friend's response was simply "oh God".. but the timing was too perfect. I spent the rest of the film trying to forget the incident and when I failed to forget it.. not to laugh out loud.

 

However, the film wasn't so bad, you just had to avoid thinking about it too much.

Also seemed kinda pointless. Wasn't Bond's mission to keep M safe? He failed! She died anyway. Okay so he also stopped the list of agents getting out but still, primary objective was failed! Didn't seem to be much mourning over it either, in fact he seemed pretty damn smiley at the end of the movie!

I'm not really a Bond fan, but this movie was pretty awesome. I may be biased though as my IMAX ticket was free.

 

I was kind of bummed out that James Bond's real name is actually James Bond. Doesn't this destroy that popular theory that Bond was just the name adopted by 007 to tie all the films together in some way? Maybe not? I have no idea if this theory was destroyed years ago.

train crashing through with NO passengers and just a driver. It was rush hour! They literally made a joke about it before and they were around Temple station - there is no train at any time during rush hour with NO passengers. Even the beginning stops have people getting on it.

That really was a massively stupid moment. I'm guessing it was done for a lower rating - perhaps we'll see the London Trocadero anime crowd we all wish had been riding that train restored for demise on the home release.

I can not recall a single Bond film that I have actively enjoyed yet I found this pretty fucking amazing. I'm not sure, there was something about it. I don't know why people are whining that it was more an homage to previous Bonds, this film was a nice leap ahead of the others. The characters were all very well done, I loved Q, Silva, Eve and even Bond who I haven't found very likable in previous films. Of course, Judi Dench is always badass.

 

The story was clear, but interesting. The action was very well executed. Each character was very unique (the villain was perfect <3) and my favourite aspect of this film was how it was shot. I found myself in awe of how beautiful the sets and scenes were (expecially Shanghai and Scotland!)

 

Ugh... such a good film.
