This is funny as fuck. Discuss.

Hipster Hitler

My personal favourite:

Also; what are hipsters? Do they exist? Have you ever met one? Are they just an imaginary construction by the man behind the curtain, designed to turn young people against each other?

I know what the general idea of a hipster is, just never ever met anyone who conforms to that stereotype. I do like the application here though. Heilvetica. Genius.

Haha, I always imagined typography people to be just that little bit pretentious.

Same... and I hope I never meet anyone who does.

I've seen a fair few in Sheffield who look like the stereotypical hipster, but whether they dressed like that before it was shoved into the light or whether they are following to seem ''cool'' is another thing.

I dare say I don't mind it, but they look somewhat ridiculous in my eyes.

They can keep the tattoos and v-neck tees, its the ridiculous beards and glasses that are stupid.

Nothing wrong with a manly beard, but it's got to be well maintained.

It's a term I've only recently begun hearing mentioned everywhere. So, what exactly constitutes a hipster? The clothes? The attitude? The beliefs? Etc.

No one says "Hipster" in Ireland. So I have never come across one.

We never really had scene kids either. Dublin just seems to be stuck with the Central Bank emos, haha.

Subcultures are scarce in Denmark in general. That's one of the "flaws" of the country in my eyes; we're not very open or broadminded. Sure we're tolerant about alcohol, sex, porn etc., but the attitude of most people is that of a close-knit society. Foreigners who come to Denmark will think we're all asocial arseholes who hate strangers (unless we're drunk), but we're just a small country which has become very socially self-dependent and can be very sceptical about anything different or outside the norm.

It's always fun to hear from Danes who have been abroad on vacation:

"Everyone is so open and friendly! It's amazing!"

"No, what's amazing is that we're one of the few cultures who aren't!"

Luckily, though, it does seem that in this age of globalisation, this trend is beginning to decrease.

I know a few 'hipsters'. I've been called one myself. I think the label has been so rampantly swung about it means pretty much nothing now. Any young person who aesthetically stands out can generally be accused of being one. Of course this is completely different from its meaning in the 90s and has almost nothing to do with the original 60s use of the term 'hipster'.

What does being a 'hipster' mean now? In my eyes, a 'hipster' is the only identity that makes sense for most urban youth in post-modernity. Or is it?

I mean this all ironically, of course.

Ironic spelling mistake.

There is a very specific group I identify as proper hipsters- it's really all about very particular areas of East London. I almost didn't believe it till I went there myself and...fucking hell they're everywhere.

It's basically this:

Basically the modern definition of a hipster is someone who goes out of there way to be 'different' from what is popular. They're usually also dicks about the whole thing (which is why everyone hates them). Now, don't confuse them with someone who likes things that aren't popular, its the people that go out of there way to only buy things that aren't popular, and exclusively because said items are unpopular. However, they've become so numerous in some places (mainly North America from what I understand) that the sorts of things hipsters like are effectively what is popular now.

I've never really heard the term before. I'm starting to get what you mean though. I think I hang around with a lot of them :D

I've never met anyone that fits the stereotype other than visually (and even then not completely).

I don't really see why it is seen as a negative though. I think it's interesting.

Yeah. I love the little punchlines usually on the last couple of frames on Hitler's tee. Mix Master Race. Wehrmacht Bitches At. So good. I really want that Heilvetica tshirt.

I think one of the defining features seems to be to read Pitchfork and have an obscure taste in music.

Was about to say Paj is pretty much a wannabe hipster but clearly he's not interested in it. :P

The problem is they tend to be generally rude to non-hipsters. In some cases they also say very annoying things.
