And less than a day later he's dead, creepy. He died at 4:30am this morning, not like he could live in the state he was in any longer anyway.

I'm very sorry for your loss, mate. If you ever need to talk, I'm right here. I truly mean it!

Wow... both my eye teeth, four wisdom teeth and a little weird-ass tooth growing UNDER a wisdom tooth were all done while I was conscious.

WHY WAS I NEVER GIVEN THE KNOCK-OUT OPTION?!

The NHS offer the option, you can have it done under in an nhs clinic (or hospital for my first two I went to a specialist nhs care center).

To be honest, I'm not sure how it is in other countries or if its just a case of having to ask for it specifically. My dentist is relatively new to me so I asked what my options were and turned down the general because it was so expensive and nobody could drive me home.

Otherwise I'd whole heartedly say to anyone getting teeth removed to do it, its so much less stress and even after 4 injections it really bloody hurt.

@martinist I'm sorry for your loss.

I think that my dentist was maybe private in the UK, although true to form, my parents refused to pay a penny towards dentistry from age 15. Along with all clothes - casual, school, shoes or otherwise - any necessary textbooks for school, did not allow friends in my home overnight, did not allow friends to eat in my home...

...wow, I had a depressing childhood after my dad remarried.

Got landed with a cacophony of bad news over Christmas from my family and still struggling a little bit with all of it. Mother has been really unwell and isn't eating, Dad has been in and out of hospital for scans, Sister has/potentially has MS (she's waiting on some final tests) and my Grandmother has heart failure :(

Struggled with coming back into the office at uni and ended up not getting with any work over the break when I needed to be getting on with writing up chapters for my thesis and such.

Haven't even emailed back my supervisor but bumped into her at the end of last week to explain roughly the situation and that I was just getting on with things at the moment till I got settled. However, she's decided to be her usual self (i.e. a royal pain in the arse) and has emailed a couple of days after speaking to her and she's stating that I need to reply to her and make an appointment (it would be a bloody meeting not an appointment) as she's contacted me 3 times (it's only been 1 prior to this email) and we've not had a meeting in 2 months (it's only been 1 as she was going away on holiday).

I'll admit that I should have emailed her back and I said as much to her, even apologising multiple times when we bumped into each other, but it's hardly the attitude I need currently when I'm still struggling with things and to get back up to speed. I'm slowly getting there and have just dove straight into things, starting a new experiment and getting chapters written up, but the latter she'll be of no help with anyway as she hasn't/won't read any of the literature because she doesn't understand why I'm taking a more biopsychological/neuropsychological view of the work I'm doing when it's cognitive research.

Just keeping my head down and getting on with it as that's the best thing I can do. Hopefully going to get some time off to go and see my family in a week or 2 and hope that everything is ok back home with them.

My dentist is mostly private but will take on some nhs patients. For instance I have a hygienist with them now, something I've never had before.

My Nan has been in hospital since the start of December with various issues. She was starting to get a bit better and stronger again last week but we were still warned that if she got an infection then that would most likely be it. Unfortunately I just got the call that she has indeed got an infection and it isnt looking good. My mum is calling her brother to see if he can come down so it sounds like she isnt expecting my Nan to get through this. :(

And there we go, my Nan died earlier tonight. Already bad enough but we are now going to have to go through an inquest as the cause of her death will ultimately have been the medical procedure they did which caused a hole in her throat that then got infected. Really hope it doesnt get dragged out :(

Anyway...happy birthday to me :(

I'm sorry to hear that Happenstance. :(

Also, Happy Birthday... although it doesn't seem right typing it in the same post, it wouldn't be right not to wish you well even if you're probably not going to feel like celebrating.

Surely your Nan would have wanted for you to have had a good Birthday though?

I don't know what else to say, I was just earlier over at my Nan's house, celebrating her Birthday as well.

We lost my Nan on my mother's side a good few years ago, so I try not to take these moments for granted as I know how it feels; anyway... if you need to talk then just say the word.

Losing a loved one is hard on any day, never mind on your birthday.

I've been there and done that and I would absolutely not wish it upon anyone. But I'm sure that your Nan wouldn't want you to be sad and would want you to celebrate your day.

<3 I'm sorry for your loss Happenstance.

Thanks guys. We had the call anyway that there will be a post mortem on Wednesday and from that we'll find out if there needs to be an inquest. They've said they dont need to see my mum for the post mortem but she wants to at least make them aware that the hospital that did the endoscopy that caused the tear in her throat tried to hide it from her. They just said they found the tear but didnt know where it was from but as soon as she was transferred the new hospital knew exactly what had happened so it was obviously in the notes.

Thanks again guys.

We heard back from the hospital today after the post-mortem and they still arent sure on the cause of death so thats still pending (although we are getting a death certificate so we can sort all the usual stuff) but because of the complaints we've made and the confusion on what ultimately killed her there will be an inquest as we had thought. Unfortunately though we now have to wait until May/June before that goes ahead. I'm pretty much doing fine now (apart from going back to my Nan's house for the first time yesterday, that had me misty eyed) but I dont want this dragging out for my Mum.

Urgh I am having such a bad day....

Raynauds is killing me cause they turned down the thermostat at work.

Migraines are going full rampage on my head and i can't lean over without vomiting from the pressure in my head.... AND triptans are making it worse

I've got ZERO signal on my mobile at work... which means my solicitor for house sale won't be able to get me. And I can't skip through the internet or facebook (on my breaks of course lol)

Just having a real shit day, and now im probably going to go watch reruns of ncis and fall into a coma on the sofa...!

I honestly don't know what to say MadDog other than I'm really sorry to hear this. :(

It's probably not much consolation but if there's anything that I can do for you then just say or indeed if there is anything N-E can do for you then let us know and we'll do what we can.

You're an amazing person, I know you'll likely shrug these words off but it's rare to see someone go through what you have and then carry on as though nothing is wrong... I recall when you originally posted here about what you'd been going through, we'd never have guessed either as the way which you view life is a true example to us all.

These might be mere words, I know they can't change things but I hope they are at least of some comfort to you, as I do mean them and if you ever need to talk or are in need of anything then please don't hesitate to let me or anyone on N-Europe know as it's the least we can do for such a great forum member and more importantly a great person as yourself.

Fucking hell mate that is bloody horrible. Although I don't know you personally from the way you've conducted yourself on here you're a brave bloke. I'm absolutely gutted for you mate, really I am. I don't want to speak like it's the end but I hope you find comfort and enjoy the time you have left. Stay strong fella. :'(

This is the worst news this thread has and will ever see.

Jesus man, devastated to hear that. The way you've conducted yourself through everything is a lesson to everyone in how to live life with humility and grace. We're all here for you and anything you need.
