<3 RIP

So today, I had what can only be described as a full on breakdown at my work.

Long story short, someone royally eff'ed up my surgery date at the hospital, so instead of it being Tuesday (the 25th), which my letter stated, someone at the hospital thought it was supposed to be today.

I only found out because they rang me letting me know the surgical team were ready and where the hell was I. At 10am, when it would have started at 7am.

The issue with that was a couple of things:

1. The waiting list for this surgery is 6 months.

2. I had booked a pretty pricey hotel thinking it was Monday

In the end I had to walk with my manager, crying my eyes out in front of all my colleagues (my desk to the front office means I pretty much walk by every team I work with) and had to sit down and breathe. Until the hospital called me back.

Thankfully, either the hospital realised the mistake or I sounded pitiful enough that they put me to have the surgery this coming Friday - 28th.

-------

The world goes on about how amazing the NHS is to be a free service, but as you guys have seen, it has been anything but for me. I'm now over a year since my symptoms first appeared, two hospitals, with the wrong diagnosis in August, three months of missing papers and now I finally get a surgery date and they fuck it up! If it wasn't for the fact its a chronic condition I would absolutely pay to go private care.

Fuck this.

Not to shit on anything you said as I know first hand what it's like to go through something like that. I had to wait the best part of 4 years before I could get throat surgery and unfortunately i couldn't afford to go private and there were very few surgeons who able to carry out what I needed. Anywayyyy, I still am very grateful to the NHS for everything they did for me, certainly wasn't an ideal amount of time to wait but I didn't really have any alternative.

I'm glad eventually you got there and mostly, now the haze has disappeared a bit, I am too. :)

One day I won't be so angry at the system, but I won't ever allow it the forgiveness for the amount of fuck ups and pain I've been in over it.

I actually wasn't sure whether I would post here or not, but considering people from here have seen what I posted on FB I thought it may be easier..

I'll keep it brief because it still hurts to speak about right now.

I arrived in London on Thursday, stayed in a hotel without leaving to take the laxative stuff (2L of it infact. Never allow anyone to tell you to take moviprep, ask for an alternative). I was ready to go, prepared, sort of excited? It'd been too long and I was in too much pain.

I didn't eat of course, from 7am on the Thursday, but made it to the appointment at 7am Friday. I saw the surgeon - my surgery was booked for the afternoon, no they couldn't tell me when and it would be best if I didn't leave the hospital. Why bring me in at 7am then?

I didn't hear anything else after that, only that I was to drink a shot (barely that) of water once an hour.

At 15:55, after everyone had been taken away to have their own surgeries, a nurse finally pulled me into a room. Success!

...and I got canceled on. I'd spent 33 hours with no food, no knowledge of my surgery time, no information, nobody asked how I was going, whilst in those shitty bolt upright wooden chairs. I've actually now figured out that in the two changes of my surgery dates within this last week I've spent over £300 in trying to get hotels, trains, food and whatever else we've needed.

I now have to wait until Monday to see if I can have my surgery this week. But to get it someone else has to be canceled on. I felt bad for the nurse that told me. I hope he knows I don't fault him.

-----

I should add here, I'm not interested in being told about whether or not I should appreciate the NHS. Whether its normal for this to happen. My pain and my anger at this whole situation are my own. This is certainly not the first time I have dealt with the NHS on a personal basis and I have lost loved ones due to lack of care. We can argue about why that is until we're blue in the face.

This is simply to let those know who wanted to know, what happened. :)

Thank you everyone.

To add to my cake, I've just found out my Grandad has passed away.

I can't even make this shit up. <3

Time to get out of this thread and find my way into the good one.

@nightwolf i'm so sorry to hear about all that shit, you really couldn't make it up.  While I love the NHS for what it is, it has a LOT of failings.

I recommend you make an official complaint. The relevant trust needs to own up to their mistakes, and like you say its not the "coal face" staff that are at fault.

Love you loads, hope you get through this ok my dear xx

I'm going through a bunch of shit too but my chronic pain kinda dims in comparison to you......!  I'm also being ignored by pretty much everyone, which is extremely frustrating.

Wishing you all the best Hannah.

Give me a shout if you see me on Steam and want to chat, I know I'm not on there as much now but I'm often happy to talk in the evenings. :)

(the only reason I don't tend to start conversations on there and on Facebook/any instant messenger is because I often feel awkward about starting conversations these days in general, call it anxiety or whatever but I never used to be this bad) :hmm:

I've been ill for the past month or so, seemingly getting better but still got the remains of something on my chest, plus my voice hasn't fully recovered yet and whatever I sprained inbetween my ribs from coughing weeks ago still hurts a little bit.

I feel like all my problems again dim in comparison to everyone elses :p it has just been frustrating to be not feeling my usual self as I want to get back to sorting stuff out, I'm doing what I can but it doesn't feel like enough at the moment.

Anyway, sending general good vibes to the whole forum for what it's worth. :peace:

Thanks @Raining_again, I hope someone does start listening, you know where I am <3.

As for the complaint, my parents are now talking to a solicitor about it all. I'm currently not involved, but a lot of people are now very fed up with what's going on. I was left very ill on Saturday with everything that has happened and considering its supposed to be specialist care I worry that they might actually be worse than the hospital that referred me. Sigh. We shall see.

@S.C.G I'm sorry to hear that, your troubles are as worthwhile noting here as any! I hope it gets better soon for you.

Laying in bed right now after a 2am text message. One of my best friends sent me a message that her mother called to say her younger sister was in a car accident and apparently not breathing....and that's all the known information. I just love being speechless and 2500ish miles away.

Ahh fuck man....

Update: Breathing and talking. Stopped twice in the ambulance though. I'm going back to sleep.

Getting my mack on down at the A&E. Due to a model from a Kickstarter game having some horrendous mould lines I had no other choice but to separate it from the base.

In the process of doing so I made a dynamite gash on my finger. After boombastic pressure applied and a finger dressing wrapped tightly we thought it would clot and all would be well. 2 episodes of Blackadder Goes Forth and about 20 mins of attempted sleep it was throbbing like a bitch. Heading downstairs for some ibuprofen I asked the missus to loosen the finger dressing. As the fingertip was exposed the hardcore bleeding resumed as if it just happened. A trifle deeper than previously believed. So here I am, one hour into an approximate two hour wait.

Shabba.

Went to collect a parcel from the Royal Mail sorting office on Saturday morning, they wouldn't accept my ID as it was 1 day out of date (new one was on it's way), even though it had my name and address on.  Didn't know they were getting this strict on post, but then they couldn't be bothered to deliver it as i was on my late cover in work when the postman arrived and posted the letters (and the slip) through the door as i was just leaving the house.

Yesterday, had to spend 4 hours on the phone to both my bank and o2.  Reason, o2 sent me an automated text at 5am saying my accounts password and security answer had been changed, and if it wasn't me who requested it then i'd need to contact o2.  First thing i do once the bank call centre opened, called them to cancel all my o2 direct debits and any pending payments.  Luckily, no pending payments so that was good.  Then spend the next part of a few hours on hold to o2 (both phone and online chat) before i got through to someone.  Who explained to me it was a system error which caused the messages to go out, and my account was fine.   Wasn't best pleased to say the least, so i got the transcript request in with them confirming it was an error.  Decided to file a complaint in regarding it on the request of my girlfriend and a few mates.

Is there any way I can get a GP to refer me for surgery to remove my appendix?

been kicking my ass on and off for the past few days and I don't want ot wait so long it ends up getting worse.

Been down to the hospital 4 times in the past 5 years asking for it to be removed but they just say it has to be really inflamed before they even think about admitting me. >_<

If it get any worse i'll be calling NHS 24 to get me a freaking ambulance. Either the surgen removes it or I rip open my abdomin and tear it out myself!

My poor niece has apparently just broken her arm. She was in so much pain they couldn't even get her off the floor in the front garden so they had to just cover her in blankets and call an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived they had to splint it and give my niece oxygen to help calm her down :(

Ouch, that's awful, man. Hope she recovers very soon and that they can hep with her pain. What happened, did she fall and land on it awkwardly?

As far as I know it was just kids playing, my niece ended up getting flipped and landed awkwardly on her arm.

Feel terrible for my sister at the moment as well, seems like everything is piling on her at once. Monday she found out her partner and cheated on her so had to kick him out, yesterday her doctor signed off her work for 2 weeks with stress as she's had headaches and dizzy spells for months and now her daughter breaks her arm and is in so much pain she has to call an ambulance.

So yesterday felt like one of those days where everything is just sort of going wrong. Long post coming up!

First of all, it was going to be a busy day as I was expecting quite a few packages to arrive, such as items for the cats we are getting, but also my new drawing tablet as my old one died last week (cost me a small fortune, boooh).

We were also getting someone to come in to sort out our laminate floor in the living room. My dad and uncle put this down in December, but they probably didn't leave enough of an expansion gap, and as the weather got warmer (and as we used our heating in January and February), the laminate expanded and had nowhere to go but up. So we had some nice bulges in our floor, one very prominent one under our sofa.

As we were moving our sofa away from the wall so the guy coming in could have a look, we noticed a smell of gas. We had noticed this before, but never too prominent. And I was certain it was gas as that was the exact spot where my uncle had accidentally cut through a gas pipe and then fixed it (or so he claimed). Seems it wasn't completely fixed. D:

Jim went off to work and I made a call to the National Gas safety number saying I could smell gas. They sent out an engineer, who arrived about an hour later. He came in, turned off the gas and then tested the inside of the house. And yep, there was a gas leak. Funnily enough right where the biggest bulge is in our laminate (might be a coincidence but who knows). As the gas is trapped under the floor though, it didn't really have anywhere to go. And although the national gas safety engineers don't do repairs, he was not allowed to leave until the gas was gone. So he got someone else out to come and help.

In the meantime, my floor guy showed up and I showed him the issue and explained he would have to come back a different day as he just couldn't do anything now. Felt bad about this.

Then the gas people decided that we needed to create a way for the gas to escape. So they carefully ripped off one of the skirting boards, hoping that would help, but it didn't do much. And slightly pressing on the laminate didn't do much either to help the gas escape. They then decided to cut off the gas pipe that leads into the house from the outside, as we thought it was only connected to an old fireplace that was no longer there (another pipe lead through the garage into the kitchen and boiler). So they cut it off and capped it, which should solve the gas leak... only then we found out that that pipe was also connected to our gas hob. >_<;

So now the gas leak should be fixed, but we are left with a hob that doesn't work (luckily the boiler still does). We were planning to replace it at some point anyway, but not right now. So now we need to get someone in to take out the old hob so we can order a new (induction) one and have that fitted.

I got no work done yesterday at all, spent all day arranging things, letting people in my house, receiving packages, sending out messages etc. And now I still have to sort out the hob and the floor. And cat stuff. D:

So my moral of the story is, be careful when you ask your family to do DIY for you, even if they are experienced (retired) builders. :p
