My new writing gig!

Recommended Posts

So yeah after setting up my blog enabled4gaming I've now been found and got a new "job" as UK Correspondent for ablegamers.com a website set up to support the ablegamers foundation.

As some of you will know I'm an IT teacher at a college for the visually impaired and disabled so thats where this interest stems from as I actively try to find ways to help students access technology both for work and for games (for games based learning activities)

My first article can be seen and read here:

http://www.ablegamers.com/hardware-news/guitar-hero-controller-report.html'>http://www.ablegamers.com/hardware-news/guitar-hero-controller-report.html

and my profile can be read here (with an avatar looking nothing like me):

http://www.ablegamers.com/component/option,com_workforce/Itemid,145/id,20/view,employee/'>http://www.ablegamers.com/component/option,com_workforce/Itemid,145/id,20/view,employee/

The foundation as a whole is a bigger deal than the website and they raise a lot of money through fundraisers etc...and have had a lot of coverage in the past on the likes of CNN and various other news sites. As UK Correspondent

my job is not only to write articles about the site but also raise awareness of their profile here in the UK. They run a massive yearly disability gaming conference which maybe in some form or another I hope to bring here however that is a long way down the line. Considering the site is largely written and maintained by people with disabilities of some sort I think they do a sterling effort and the site is defintely worth checking out. They have a web game of the week article that is pretty good for example!

The foundations website can be found here:

and the website I'm now writing for can be found here:

Congrats on the new job/writing role/thing. :)

I really like what the websites all about, being able to play games is something a lot of us take for granted.

yeah its certainly something I've noticed when trying to help students play games the most simple of games you take for granted can be near on impossible to play! it also represents quite the challenge trying to find solutions and then its very interesting to have the chance to write and reflect on this practice.

I have an AbleGamers print in my room that I bought from the foundation. Designed by the excellent artist Justin Russo. I get updates from them all the time. It's a pretty high profile gig, nice one.

haha I think Extra Life kinda has the monopoly on those kind of fundraisers not sure what exactly they do to raise money other than sell what Chuck mentions.
