Help me make a mixtape

I work at an independent cinema, and I've been asked to make a mixtape CD to play in one of the smaller screens between film showings. I want you guys to help me make the CD, by suggesting songs to put on.

There are some criteria for song choice though:

  • The song must be (relatively) accessible. Not necessarily mainstream, but something people can listen to without them thinking "WTF?"
  • The song cannot have any explicit lyrics or mature themes. ie. it must be old woman and child-friendly.
  • The song cannot be shit. Yeah its all subjective blah blah blah, but I won't accept Jason Derulo or similar.
  • As per Universal Mixtape Law, no artist can be used twice.

So, I'll take the first 10/11/12 songs (depending on length of songs chosen) posted. Each person can nominate 1 song.

Think; what would you want to hear if you had arrived early for a film showing?

I'd say stuff along the lines of:

The Shins

Death Cab for Cutie

Two Door Cinema Club

Phoenix

Fleet Foxes

Friendly Fires

Hot Chip

The xx

Gorillaz

Air

Sebastian Tellier (you'd have to be careful about which song though)

Rufus Wainwright

The Cardigans

etc. All easy going/somewhat upbeat without being 'club music'. The kind of things I hear at work (with some better suggestions :p) and I hear at cinemas.

Not specified songs because I'm lazy/figure you can explore if you wish but if you really want I will.

If you want family fun entertainment while the family waits for such movies as Toy Story 3 or Shrek. This song is sure to have the entire family singing along, even grandma :)

Just skip to about 1:20 for the song to start. The weirdest part is that this is actually a real song.

But seriously, I think some kind of pop-rocky stuff would be perfect. Like Muse, Coldplay, Snow Patrol and other music like that.
