Best. Thread. Ever.

Needs more Spotify.

Antony & The Johnsons - Knockin' On Heaven's Door

I'll post more tomorrow.

Amaze.

I heard the original of that the other day, and I was reminded how inappropriate the "feel" of the song is. It's far too upbeat, considering it has the bleakest lyrics.

Antony's voice is the best damn thing.

It's always refreshing to hear someone who's not a manic depressive singing a Morrisey song.

I think at least one forum member will approve of that choice. Whatever it is, James Dean-Bradfield's packin' some.

Doesn't really compare to the Tegan and Sara original, but it's different and I like it.

I also second Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt.

Gnarls Barkley did a grand cover of Gone Daddy Gone(by the Violent Femmes) as well.

Too much yes.

Tegan and Sara's voicals work far better for the song.

.

Am I the only one who much prefers the original?

I don't think even Trent Reznor prefers the original...

That's okay, I have an irrational hate of female singers. Like, can't stand 99% of songs sung by a girl. This isn't necessarily due to them being female, it may just be a bad song.

I'm the opposite, except I like male singers as well. (lol)

I quite like this, because of the sound quality (and of course her voice):

I got a minute five, but it's just whining to me.

Yeah, to be fair it makes more sense when you know her bag. Her album is amazing; its a different style, and it works better:

(The megaphone bits take away, but you live, you learn...)

By emotion and power do you mean completely ruining a great song?

No one's mentioned New Found Glory's covers yet? They've released two full albums of them, called "From the Screen to Your Stereo" and "From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II" Good covers =) If you are into that punkpop sound.

Of course I'll also mention Millencolin's cover of "Every Breath You Take" =D

Love these,

I do love the direction they've taken the song, but I hate how people know this over the Kate Bush original. Considering she's The Mother.

Interestingly, she recorded an alternative version of the song:

I think I prefer it, but that's maybe just because I've grown up on the album version, and love hearing a change.
