So tempted to get a Galaxy Nexus, only got my Nexus S 8 months ago though  Although he rumours are there will just be a refreshed version of the current GN which includes a faster processor and an SD card slot. Although I thought Google were completely against that. ::shrug:

Anyone recommend some apps or books to buy from the Google Play store, still got most of the credit I got free with my Nexus 7? :/

Emit is really good for streaming videos from a local network computer or a remote computer even via wifi, makes it really easy to watch stuff without having to waste time/space transferring stuff.

Got my nexus 7 today, very happy with it. It's a smooth piece of kit and well worth the £200, i seem to have got a free copy of 50 shades of gray as well. :-!

Does this battery usage seem normal on a Nexus S running Jelly Bean to anyone else?

battery.png

Usually drops from a full charge to around 60% - 70% overnight which seems a lot considering I'm not using it. Doesn't drop as much if I turn on airplane mode overnight but it drains later after I turn it on later anyway. Can't figure out what's causing it, well it's obviously the Google Services process but that doesn't even show up on my Nexus 7.

I don't know about Jelly Bean, but Google Services does seem unnaturally high....

From a Google Search, it seem that Google Now and the location tracking is the main culprit. You can disable it from Google Maps.

Report location from this device was checked, so I disabled that and set it to not update my location automatically. Shall see if that works.

Motorola's latest phones: Razr M, Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD.

http://ibnlive.in.com/photogallery/7342-1.html

Specs of the HD ones:

4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display (1280 x 720p)

1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdraon S4 processor

1GB of RAM

32GB of internal storage (with micro-SD support)

8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash

1.3 VGA front for video chat

The Razr Maxx HD battery is 3,300 mAh promising 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of video playback or eight hours of continuous web browsing.

Due to the battery, I'm quite tempted by them. I'll see what the Nexus phones are like first, though.

Does anybody know why the Razr Maxx is so much more expensive here than in the US?

So Google Services was at 30% when I checked this morning so it doesn't seem to be caused by the location tracking, although I left "Google's location service" and "Location & Google Search" options in Location Services checked since I apparently need them to use things like the weather widget. Unless it is them causing the problem, which would suck because I like those features and don't want to turn it off.

Been meaning to install that for ages, need to find my PC version disk to grab the assets off it.

Find it here:

Note: The version on the Play Store is a fake.

Actually the version that was put up was real, but it was taken down a while ago (owner didn't have permission).

Still, I found the apk for that and that's what I'm using. I tried installing it the normal way previously using that same link you posted but I kept having an issue where the game would freeze.

I still class it as a fake, due to the "read sensitive log data" permission.

From what I know that's to do with collecting anonymous crash dump data but I agree it's not the best. It might be that I thought I uninstalled this version then installed it properly and something went wrong or there was a clash between having two versions. Will look into this.

Wasn't the one on the Play Store uploaded by someone else? If you download it from the guy's site you have to obtain the asset files yourself, the Play Store version included them (hence the take down, it's the assets that he doesn't have permission to use, the code is his).

Looks like the UK is finally getting the Kindle Fire, which was meant to come out at the start of the year. I'm assuming the new model is different, because I haven't read up on it fully yet, but someone at work has a US one and it's super bulky and quite heavy, nothing like say, the Nexus 7.

Still it took them too long and now I'm less interested. Amazon will probably have more books and movies available on theirs than Google does on their store though :(

Also, possibly solved my battery issues. Disabled the rest of the location services and cleared data from Google+, Facebook, Twitter and maybe some other apps and so far Google Services process hasn't showed up in the battery page and my Android OS and Android system processes have both dropped quite a bit. I honestly think it was Google+ causing the problem, re-enabled some location services and it's been fine. :/

I'm sorry I do not know where to post my enquiry so I am doing it here if its okay? thanks and sorry

Ive been gifted a brand new samsung galaxy s2 and i've kindovish gotten to gripsish with it, but just need a few questions and pointers since Im not really a techy.

a] What's this '3G' thing all bout?

b] Howd I do that thing where Im in wifi-mode but when I exit the wifi barrier then I devolve back down to this 3G-mode? (if ive got that correct?)

e1, e2, e3 and e4] Can I go into wifi-mode by stealing connections from work etc?... Or can I only do that via hotspots at restaurants/hotels/near local porn call-girl companies etc?... At friends/relatives houses you have to ask for their connection codes for it to work? Howdya know when you're are at an hotspot then?

g1, 2 & 3] Can you stream vids on the internet? Could I go on to anime sites and stream full eps? This is a huge one - could I possibly stream conferences or live tv?

f] Is Word already preinstalled on teh device, or do I download it (free?)?

ill leave it that for now but chairs a bunch.

a] What's this '3G' thing all bout? It's fast internet for browsing and downloading while on the move

b] Howd I do that thing where Im in wifi-mode but when I exit the wifi barrier then I devolve back down to this 3G-mode? (if ive got that correct?) It does it automatically

e1, e2, e3 and e4] Can I go into wifi-mode by stealing connections from work etc?... Or can I only do that via hotspots at restaurants/hotels/near local porn call-girl companies etc?... At friends/relatives houses you have to ask for their connection codes for it to work? Howdya know when you're are at an hotspot then? If you know the wi-fi codes you can, there is a setting on android that alerts you when you come into an area that has wi-fi

g1, 2 & 3] Can you stream vids on the internet? Could I go on to anime sites and stream full eps? This is a huge one - could I possibly stream conferences or live tv? You can, make sure you on wi-fi if your going to do it if your not on an unlimited data plan. There are various apps for watching live TV

f] Is Word already preinstalled on teh device, or do I download it (free?)? No there is free apps that will allow you to open office documents. Just search the app store

Hi guys. I need a bit of advise here. I am contemplating getting an Android phone. I first and foremost need it for gaming, but wouldn't mind being able to watch videos, access youtube and use Skype as well. The games I'm interested in all seem to work with android 2.3 or below. I'd like to begin with an affordable Android phone to see if smartphone gaming is for me at all so I've been narrowing it down to a few phones and hope someone here will be able to give me some piece of advice or maybe even suggest me another Android phone as long as it's in the same price range as the others. The candidates are:

HTC Explorer

Samsung Galaxy Y S5360

Samsung Galaxy Gio

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

You wouldn't really be able to tell if Android gaming was for you with those phones, they are pretty crap and have small screens.

Just get a nexus 7 :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but isn't that a tablet? I'm looking for a smartphone that will fit in my pocket and that I can use as my main phone as well as playing games on it. Why are the ones I listed crap if the requirements for the games I want seem to be OK? Are the processors too slow or something else? Am I fooling myself into thinking that any of the above-mentioned phones will be sufficient for playing games which require android 2.3 or less? If so, which (smartphone) model do you guys suggest as a minimum? Thank you.

What is your price range? I'm assuming by the phones listed that you aren't looking for a contract....but you can get really good Android phones on contract now. For example the Galaxy S2 is really cheap now (around £15 to £18 a month) since the S3 came out, and that should run pretty much any game you can throw at it.

Basically, even though the game may say it is compatible with Android 2.3 etc, that doesn't mean the game will run on any phone, just because it has 2.3 installed. Compare it to a PC game that says it is compatible with Windows XP, but if your PC is crappy and slow, the game won't run.

The phones you've listed would be fine for making calls/checking emails on etc, but i doubt any of them would be fast/powerful enough to run many games. Also, they will have quite tiny screens, which aren't particularly good for watching videos or games on.

What about the galaxy nexus. It's got a dual core processor and come with the latest version of Android and a tasty screen. I think you can pick them up for around 350 squid now.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've been away from the smartphone market for a few years so have/had some catching up to do. I decided to go for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 model because of the relative low price (€250) and the ability to play video games. It comes with OS 2.3.6 Gingerbread and I'm not sure whether it's possible to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) at this point. What I've read so far about ICS vs Gingerbread though hasn't made me feel like I'm losing out on anything significant and I'm sure I'll be able to tweak the standard settings to my liking if need be.

Anyway, are there any good Android websites for gaming reviews and news articles, and what games do you recommend? Thanks again.

The Galaxy Ace 2 should be getting Jelly Bean (OS 4.1.1) shortly, as far as i know, so that's nice.
