3DS Console Discussion

Recommended Posts

Well, I do agree that people don't care about 3D, and that Nintendo misread the market with the launch price. 3DS, like the Wii U, has tech in that people don't want, and of course it all has to be paid for.

I don't blame Nintendo for thinking people would be excited about the Parallax Barrier, though. 3D was all the rage and it was just an amazing bit of technology. Making their handheld 3D may have been a mistake, but it's not one I'll criticise Nintendo for because I would have done the same.

I love the 3D, when Nintendo get around to their new handheld console it'll better have 3D on it or I'll cry because of the step backwards it'll take. 3D adds nothing to movies (only a gimmick), but for games it's a different kettle of fish. The 3D allows you to judge your space perfectly between you and your enemy, object, etc. I just wish I had a glasses free 3D TV, so the Wii U could do the same (dreams).

Yeah I agree, I love the 3D on the 3DS, pretty much always have it on (bizarrely other than Fire Emblem). I won't be too devestated if it isn't on the next one, it'd be nice, but it'll make the 3DS more special in the history of things.

Well, I only own 3 3DS games so far (MK7, NSMB2 and ACNL), but I think the system is doing pretty fine right now. Good review scores for Luigi's Mansion 2 and Fire Emblem, plus Animal Crossing NL is a surprisingly fresh sequel as well.

Also, the eShop and emulator are great. Have played through so many unbeaten old games like Metroid and Zelda II just because the emulator now has a save state function, not to mention I bought quite a few Game Boy games like the Mario Land saga because they were pretty darn cheap. I just hope that some day the Wii U VC will be as good as this one...

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!! If you haven't already, get over the the 3ds friend code thread and add us all! Will be sure to add back!! : peace:

Thanks man! Hopefully I'll manage to find time to get into online a bit more. I'll definitely head over there once I do and especially if/when I get Animal Crossing!

Soo, I finally bought a 3DS XL!!! Well, I bought two; one for my brother too. The largest electronics store chain in Norway offered the red 3DS XL one-day-only for

NOK 880!

NOK 880 is approximately

EUR 111 or GBP 95!

(I still had to pay shipping, NOK 49/EUR 6/GBP 5.50, but after careful calculations, it was still worth it... Fine, I'll admit it, I did not have to carefully weigh the pros and cons on this one.)

So the decision was made, I retired my 3DS! Moving data and licenses went with no problem at all.

One thing, though: To move the complimenatry The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords: Anniversary Edition for DSi, I was instructed to physically move the SD card from the 3DS to the 3DS XL. The thing is, I want to use the new 4GB SD card that came with my new 3DS XL, but all the data is on the 3DS-included 2GB card.

Is there a way to avoid redownloading every single piece of software?

System transfer.

That won't work, you need to do a system transfe. That will transfer the game and all of your system data (Miis, Streepass data etc) across to the 3DS XL.

After you've gone through that process, you just need to copy/paste the data over to the new 4GB SD Card using your PC (just copy/paste the entire contents over to the root folder).

The System Transfer will move DSiWare (in this case Four Swords) over to your SD card during the transfer as long as you OK it. Or you can do it manually beforehand. I suggest moving it or you will lose save data. DSiWare games are stored on the 3DS internal memory so it needs to be moved.

Despite the name, the system transfer doesn't actually transfer that much. It's all stored on the SD card which you then swap over and can use on the XL. You just then copy the contents of your 2GB and paste them onto the 4GB card using your PC as already described.

I did a System Transfer, hence the "Moving data and licenses" bit, but I did not write those two words, so maybe it was unclear.

That easy, huh? Wow. I thought the moving the data from the old (source) 3DS's SD card onto a new SD card wouldn't work on the new (target) 3DS XL.

But my new 4GB SD card has already been formatted during the transfer process, and some folders and files have been created. Should I still just copy from old SD card to new SD card without altering the existing data?

Make a backup of all the files/folders (copy and paste everything) on your PC from the 4GB SD card, then delete all the files off the SD card (not the backup ;)) and paste the data from your 2GB card.

You can probably just copy the old files and it will overwrite them but deleting the files will make sure everything is correct and up to date for the XL.

Make sure you have backups though.

Remind me to never buy the first version of a Nintendo console ever.

I have never actually seen the XL before, until today. Holy shit, the screen is big. And the console itself, so goddamn sexy. Me want :( But it just takes away money I should rather spend on WiiU/PS4.

Tried downloading a game today on my 3ds (well, on my 3rd attempt now) and keep getting an error code after waiting over 40 mins each time and the download nearly being complete.

Not sure if it's an internet problem or a 3ds problem but it's damn annoying.

In the end I've chosen sleep download, so will see how that goes. :indeed:

Happens to me a lot this. I think i future I will just choose sleep download as when I do select that, there is very rarely a problem. Annoying though, as I like seeing it download and complete.

Namco teasing a new video game. Now they've added the "Anniversary" text to both lines. Any idea?

Could the bottom one be "Famicom 30th Anniversary"?

Okay, I've been trying to find the smallest thinnest case for the XL, I remembered chatting on here about it, I think @welsh_gamer had one but can't find the post (the search function is atrocious on this site). Any recomendations?

Anyone know what these are like?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Licensed-Gametrek-Case-Blue/dp/B005FPDJDU/ref=sr_1_24?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1374343171&sr=1-24&keywords=3ds+case

I have a case already but it's too big and bulky, sometimes I just want to take my 3DS for streetpasses so literally want a big sock for it.

Also tempted by a XL Circle Pad... but no games use it. Res Evil and Monster Hunter but surely they're playable without... Have any other games been announced that will use it? Did Renegade Kid say their FPS will use it?

It was this one here - those you listed are just standard 3DS cases btw. It's the best case/wallet you can get for the XL IMO, as all the other one's I've seen in person are very bulky!

So this is really thin, thinner than the ones I linked?

I haven't had problems with downloading, but in general I think the 3DS online is quite bad. Playing online on AC is testing my patience, and interest in the game.

Few weird things since I've been playing my 3DS last night...

1) Shantae kept freezing in a similar place. Colours went funny and displayed lots of numbers. "Just a glitch", I thought.

2) Got a StreetPass today (actually saw the lad with his 3DS). Looked in the Plaza - no one there. Only record of the StreetPass is data for New Super Mario Bros 2. "He might not have his settings right", I thought.

3) Got another StreetPass. Had data for Mario 3D Land, but did not get to "meet" him. Looked in my StreetPass Plaza and he was already there, "via invitation" (I don't understand what that is in this context).

Is my 3DS going wrong or have I just had too much sun?

Mental!! But then if those games can't get you to play the console then I can't imagine much else will, that's 4 classic games there! Though if anything could, Zelda could!

Don't sell it, Blade. Just switch on your 3DS, pop in one of those games and play it. Hopefully then yo...

Wait a minute. Have you played Fire Emblem at all?

Those are the exact same four games I own and ive barely played my 3DS in a couple of weeks either.

I doubt I will sell it but I also think this will probably be the last Nintendo console I will buy. The disinterest I felt with the Wii U seems to have carried over and I think I am just bored and done with Nintendo. I'll just carry on working on my SNES collection for any of the older games I actually want to play.
