General Switch Discussion

Recommended Posts

Ok so just getting round to actually checking out this Switch etc. It had no sd card i put in a 16gb and formatted it already the switch is saying it only has 5.3gb free as an sd card BUT it looks like 'system memory' may be larger now? Does switch have some weird data management systems?

On that note - obvs as as a new switch owner also likely to get a bigger SD card soon how much issues or stuff am I likely to get upgrading later? Or just general clumsiness things about Switch management?

Edit: ok so the eshop on switch is super bare on detail for games? a few pictures and a price no description no size no vids or am I missing something somewhere with further detail??

To preface: The only Paper Mario game I've played was Super Paper Mario so I can't compare Bug Fables to the Paper Mario RPGs.

I'm now an hour in.

It's a very pretty game. It's not necessarily going for the "paper aesthetic". The inspiration is clearly there, but it's not 100% "papery" :D Looks good, though.
Sound effects are fitting. The music (the two tracks I've listened to, so far) is lovely.

Writing seems to be top-notch. Lots of humorous dialogue and lore. The three main characters already have a fun dynamic. Looking forward to how the story will evolve and how the characters interact in the future.

"But drahkon, who gives a shit about the graphics and music. It's all about gameplay, you wanker."

Exploration is standard RPG exploration...hardly something you could fuck up. And the devs didn't :p

Battles have been simple so far, mainly because there's not a lot to choose from. Attack, one or two skills, block.
Simple doesn't mean easy, though. I've put the game on hard mode and good lord the battles can be tough. Died twice to normal enemies. Using items will be a necessity.

Yeah...that's it for now. Good first 60 minutes and if I wasn't so unbelievably tired I'd continue playing. :D Well, I'll put more time into Bug Fables tomorrow :peace:

Thank you, overjoyed to hear the writing is good. How's the world building?

Only put 30 more minutes into the game just now, so it's too early to really tell.

The main characters are an interesting blend of "childlike adventurer", "responsible adventurer" and "mystical mage" :D One of them appears to have a pretty interesting past but so far that's only been hinted at once.

I've seen three locations so can't say much about the world itself.

There is something larger looming. It's very subtle but that's to be expected at this stage of the story.

Edit: More characters are now involved, more potential conflicts hinted at. :peace:

I would assume that the OS takes up a good chunk of the storage.

Don't have a microSD card in my Switch, but from what I know it's now quite easy to transfer data from the internal memory to a new microSD card (that feature has been added recently, IIRC). Transfering data from one card to another isn't possible, I'd reckon. Maybe via a PC with card readers, but not on the Switch itself (given it has only one card slot). You shouldn't take my words for granted, though, as I'm just assuming :p

The eShop sucks. You're better off using an alternate source of information. DekuDeals is my go-to.

The information you're looking for (size, vids, screenshots) should be there, though.

Something is dodgy about that SD Card.  Switch just uses standard ExFAT formatting, so you should have something like 14.7GB free on that card.

Check to see if there isn’t any porn or other junk hidden on that card.

Wasn't that pin error corrected in the newer revision of the Switch console? I.e. it's only possible on consoles bought the first year and a half (ish).

Just to say yes I believe you are correct. This is a very specific Switch I had been watching and tried to ensure came to me if it was gonna go unused - friend bought it around launch before hack was known iirc.

Lol doubt it was in a phone once plus if the Switch is gonna 'format' the card then...why hasn't it done so? Definitely was just standard filesystem for a mircosd card in a phone previously?

4 1/2 hours in now.

It gets better :) Nothing huge going on right now, but I assume something major will go down eventually.

Enjoying the game very much.
It does, however, suffer from the biggest sin in the RPG-genre: you can't grind. Well...technically you can, but it would take way too long. I hate it when games immensely reduce the XP you get from lesser monsters the more you level up. It kind of makes sense with the XP system in this game, but come on...just 1 XP now instead of the 5 you get from early monsters in the beginning?
Bug Fables won't get a perfect score from me, that's for sure :p

Still, having a great time with it. :peace:

If it's anything like old-school Paper Mario, then it's always 100 EXP = Level Up?

Yeah, Paper Mario did that too. Which is weird that Bug Fables has a hard mode. I imagine that it's quite hard to balance that EXP system with adjustable difficulty.

Pretty much, yeah.

Apparently, hard mode is what the devs balanced the game around originally.

Currently stuck at a boss and grinding is taking way too long. One XP per battle...adding to that: you have to leave an area to make enemies respawn. Not just the screen, the entire area.

Need to get away from the idea of grinding and get used to the fact that items are a necessity :p

Bug Fables

About 10 hours in, still in chapter 3 :D

Found a place to grind xp for a while so naturally I spend some time there. Leveled up twice and now the exp gains are not worth the effort.

A certain medal let's me defeat weak enemies before fighting them. Given the grind I was able to run through the current story area without a single random battle :D The first mandatory fight still kicked my ass.

Anyways, the story seems to be picking up the pace. Can't wait to see where it's going.

Good to hear your impressions. I've also started Bug Fables and I'm about 3 hours in I guess, and I've just completed chapter 2. I'll save the details for my review, but so far it's been a fun and charming experience. The only thing that bugged me is that in the beginning of the game is it doesn't make it clear how you use the Spy thing during battle. So I missed some enemy entries for my log which means I probably won't get 100% completion on my first run.

I read that 100% completion will always be possible on the first run. Nothing is missable. Can't vouch for that myself, though.

However, with a global surge in video games playing amid coronavirus lockdown, a new 4.2 million units of the popular console were sold in March only, with the combined number reaching 55.7 million.

Analyzed by geography, North America represents the leading region in the Nintendo Switch sales globally, with 20.61 million units sold as of May. Europe and Japan follow with 14.3 million and 13.4 million, respectively.

Source

Edit: As mentioned by @MindFreak that source has the numbers wrong. Apologies.

Nintendo sure did a good job releasing the Corona virus to infect the world. Worked wonders for them regarding both hardware and Animal Crossing sales.

That is not true. Nintendo's recent fiscal report states that they sold 3.29 million units in January-March.

Apparently, it's some sort of website that tries to get clicks. I saw someone owning some gaming website mention it on Reddit where GoldenCasinoNews asked them to post stuff they were writing.

Interesting. I initially got the news from Nintendolife.com and they used GoldenCasinoNews as a source.

I’m now patiently waiting for their post on the inevitable truth about Bill Gates’ masterplan to use a soon to be released Nintendo Switch 5G Pro that communicates wirelessly with the mind controlling unit that was implanted in our brains through the Corona Virus nanobots! Be Leaf!

Day 1 of the Guerrilla Collective event begins later today at 5pm BST/6pm CET. There'll be another 2 days, tomorrow and Monday, with the events starting at the same time each day. The event is focused on indie games, with over 80 games set to be showcased with updates and such on announced games, and they've put out the provisional list for the 3 days which will post below. These are only those that are announced, going by the number, there's likely to be more each day with  new game announcements. Game wise, theres several that are set for a Switch release so this should mean that there are a few release dates for games such as Roki as well as some info on how the Switch port of Disco Elysium is coming along (I suspect this will arrive a little after the ports for the other consoles as they're doing the work in house at Studio ZA/UM).

Day 1
A Juggler’s Take
Baldur’s Gate III
Boyfriend Dungeon
Colt Canyon
Disco Elysium
Dwarf Fortress
Exo One
Fights in Tight Spaces
Genesis Noir
Haven
Just Die Already
Lake
Liberated
Moonlighter
Midnight Ghost Hunt
Night Call
Outbuddies DX
Rigid Force Redux
Roki
Swim Sanity
Ultrakill
Uragun
Urban Trial Tricky
Valheim

Day 2
30XX
Aelois Tournament
Calico
Coreupt
Cyanide & Happiness - Freakpocalypse
Divinity Original Sin II
Don’t Forget Me
Drake Hollow
Dreamscaper
Dusk
Edo No Yami
Eldest Souls
Evan’s Remains
Evil Genius 2
Floppy Knights
Gori Cuddy Carnage
Haven
Hundred Days
Jay and Silent Bob
Later Daters
Lord Winklebottom Investigates
Midnight Ghost Hunt
Minute of Islands
No Straight Roads
Nuts
Per Aspera
Paradise Killer
Pull Stay
Pushy Pully in Blockland
Raji - An Ancient Epic
Read Only Memories: Neurodiver
Skate Story
Skeleton Crew
Speed Limit
Star Renegades
Suzerain
The Eternal Cylinder
Undungeon
Vigil The Longest Knight

Day 3
30XX
Boyfriend Dungeon
Iron Harvest 1920
System Shock (Remake)
The Eternal Cylinder

Obviously there'll be games that aren't coming to Switch but given the heavy player base of indie titles on the console, I thought it was worth sharing in here for those who want to check back throughout the day(s) for announcements. I've been particularly interested in hearing more about Roki since seeing it in an Indie Direct and the developer is teasing what looks like a release date on Twitter (it's a swirled image but July 2020 can clearly be made out and given the use of blue colours for the image, I'd definitely associate it with Roki).
