PeeJ Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Recently my brothers Xbox 360 got the RROD and well it basically died....however from searching on eBay I have noticed a lot of people sell them to people for spares or for repair. I thought it would be good to post my listing here as possibly someone will know how to fix the console and well can steal a small bargain. Here is the listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160361119583#ht_500wt_1182
Aimless Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 How old is it? Microsoft offer a 3 year warranty on consoles that suffer from the RROD, and even if it's outside that time frame it's fairly likely they'll repair/replace it for free anyway. Give them a ring on 0800 587 1102, make sure to mention that it's showing the RROD and chances are they won't ask for much more information than that. If the machine is more than 3 years old then just pretend it isn't; they've no real way to check. You'll need to find a box to send the machine off in — sans cables, hard drive and any accessories — and wait a week or two for a replacement, but I'm sure that's preferable to making a pittance selling it as spares on eBay.
S.C.G Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Yeah, get M$ to fix it... you can still cancel the auction now I believe because it doesn't have any bids on it, but if someone bids on it now then theres nothing you can do. :/
PeeJ Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) Have already tried to contact Microsoft but because the console was bought preowned at Gamestation it is already registered to another owner and I was basically accused of "stealing" their console. Asked to speak to manager who said would have to send a letter to original owner to confirm they no longer had it then they could take in for repair...never heard anything back and was fed up with hassle so went and bought a new Elite since it has came down in price Thanks for the heads up though Edited September 7, 2009 by PeeJ
Aimless Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Ahh, I see. If you bought it less than a year ago, and still have a receipt, then I assume preowned consoles from GameStation come with a 12 month store warranty — I'm pretty sure this is GAME's policy and they're owned by the same company. Otherwise good luck shifting the dead weight!
PeeJ Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Unfortunately was just outside the 12 month warranty which was a shame. Hopefully manage to shift it, if someone knows how to fix it though they could get a good deal

My brothers broke within 3 days of the warranty being over.
flameboy Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 well I've popped a bid in...have a mate who runs a repair shop, not sure he can fix such things...but hopefully can get it fixed. Although not gonna pay much more for it than I am now.. Probably be a waste of money but nevermind.
MoogleViper Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Is it the 3 red light? If so console doctor will fix it for £60. Thought that might help people who are interested in buying it. http://www.consoledoctor.co.uk/xbox-360-repairs

Thank you for posting, sounds like a good deal to any potential buyers. well I've popped a bid in...have a mate who runs a repair shop, not sure he can fix such things...but hopefully can get it fixed. PeeJ Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 To anyone that was watching or has checked I managed to get £55.20 for a paperweight...can't complain with that although I never imagined people would pay that much for a faulty xbox.

Yeah way more than I was willing to pay for it...I mean if my mate couldn't fix it and I had to pay £60 to consoledoctor thats £115 for not much more could get a brand new console with its 3 extended warranty and not live in fear of it red ringing again! Certainly opened my eyes that auction did :awesome:
Kirkatronics Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 If your friends have purchased an xbox from a game or gamestation, use their reciept and get a replacement. My friend did this, and they asked no questions.
MoogleViper Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 If your friends have purchased an xbox from a game or gamestation, use their reciept and get a replacement. My friend did this, and they asked no questions. But then how will they get it replaced if theirs breaks?
Mr_Odwin Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 If your friends have purchased an xbox from a game or gamestation, use their reciept and get a replacement. My friend did this, and they asked no questions. But that's dishonest! But then how will they get it replaced if theirs breaks? They could just take it back again if theirs break. Game/Gamestation would just assume it was the one they gave you this first time. Do they not check serial codes or anything?
Kirkatronics Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 But then how will they get it replaced if theirs breaks? They dont take the reciept, and they dont check anything other than the warranty sticker. But that's dishonest! They could just take it back again if theirs break. Game/Gamestation would just assume it was the one they gave you this first time. Do they not check serial codes or anything? Game/Station dont foot the bill. Microsoft do.
MoogleViper Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 They dont take the reciept, and they dont check anything other than the warranty sticker. Oh right. I assumed they'd take the receipt.
