Persona 3 Portable

Recommended Posts

The latest issue of Famitsu this week revealed a PSP version of Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3. Character designs reveal a new female protagonist among other scant details.

The original Persona 3 was first released to the Japanese PS2 in July 2006. Atlus followed with an expansion called Persona 3 Fes in April 2007.

Players will be able to choose the gender of their protagonist in the PSP version. A scan shows the apparent heroine of Persona 3 Portable next to never before seen art of Persona 3's original male protagonist. Between the two are male and female versions of the protagonist's persona Orpheus from Persona 3.

Another new character revealed looks like what may be a male equivalent to Elizabeth – a character in Persona 3 who handled persona fusions among other things. Major additions and changes will be made to Persona 3's social element.

Persona 3's male main character could embark on various side quests that included dating the game's female characters. The female protagonist in Portable will have her own side quests and dating prospects added, along with new ones for the male character.

It is likely that she may simply be able to date the same male characters that appeared in the PS2 version. The image displaying an apparently gender-reversed Elizabeth may suggest otherwise.

According to translators at NeoGAF, Persona 3 Portable will also include new music and five difficulty levels as opposed to the two difficulties in the PS2 version. Like in Persona 4 players will be able to directly control their party members in Persona 3 Portable instead of letting the AI control them. The game will apparently be based off of Persona 3 FES – a PS2 expansion pack that itself added new quests and a new campaign.

Other new elements include the ability to select between five difficulty levels: beginner, easy, normal, hard, and maniacs. Movement through the game world has been simplified, as you can now select a destination directly from a menu and be transported there instantly. During battle, you now have the option of directly issuing commands to all your ally characters.

This announcement comes after the Japanese April release and the impending North American September release of the PSP remake of the original Persona. Like that game, Persona 3 Portable will receive a simultaneous release on UMD and Playstation Network. This could represent a shift in platform focus for the franchise.

The images from Famitsu peg a Japanese release date for Persona 3 Portable on November 1st.

Site blog updated

Boxart

New information from the scans

-Two new difficulty levels

-A new Spell Card system base on like Strange Journey's D-Source.

- A completely new female S. Link (Rio Iwasaki) associated with the sports teams, Tennis or Volleyball.

- Another new female character S. Link, Saori Hasegawa (perhaps replacing the Kenji "Best Friend Schoolmate" type?)

- Ken S. Link with female MC

- Akihiko S. Link with female MC

- A screen from the female perspective shows the School Council president on the rooftop. If he's an S. Link, this is the first screen that's showed an arcana conflict for a specific MC, so something is likely to change.

- Another screen shows the female MC on one of the Koro walk scenes, meeting the helmet teacher (who has artwork now). Didn't you only meet party members or S. Links during the walks? He could be the replacement for the Hermit S. Link for the male MC, as that one was kind of gender specific.

- Dating scenes with Theodor.

- Generic character blurbs for Ahihiko, Ken, and Fuuka

No FES content in this version? Awww. Guess they wanted to make it a pure P3 experience only. FES story is about what happens to the main person, so I guess dialogue changes would have to be made in FES to accompany the female things in 3.

New scans - Young Yukiko and Chie.

The reason:

The sports teams take a trip to Inaba for their training week and stay at the Amagi inn. Also Yukiko is around the high school is likely just because she's escorting the visitors.

I still don't like this, yeah sorry, but not being able to walk around during the day and night and only time you really have a control is during the Tarturus time just feels lazy too me, it's a good game to get as a chick who likes the game but for me...I'll just wait for Persona 5 on the PSP

I just presume since and I joke about it, Atlus have released Persona 1 and Persona 3 (And I am guessing Persona 4 soon)

They sell very well on the PSP, why waste millions on a game for HD system where the userbase seems to be on the PSP now. Would be cheaper and they would most likely make more money out of it

10/01/2011 - Spectral Souls II PSN release date + Persona 3 Portable announced!

Hi all,

First up, Happy New Year!

We're back from the Christmas holidays with a bang, so lets get straight to our first announcement, and it's a goodie: we're happy to announce that Idea Factory's awesome S-RPG 'Spectral Souls: Resurrection of the Ethereal Empires' (PSP) will be available to buy from the PSN store on 26th January 2011. To support the release we also have a dedicated 'SS:RotEE' website, giving more details about the game. Go and check it out! :)

Right, now on to the BIG news for the early part of 2011. As some people have already speculated via an erroneous product entry on a major games retailers website, we will be releasing the seminal 'Persona 3 Portable' for PSP in 2011! Funnily enough at that time we were only in early discussions with Atlus; not a contract in sight. However, all that aside, we've been lucky enough to secure 'P3P' for a European release since then, which is a happy coincidence! :) Still, the extra activity online certainly hasn't hurt, so thanks for all the enquiries we've had. Anyhow, we're now in a position to confirm that YES; WE ARE DOING THE GAME!

Details aren't totally fleshed out yet, but we can confirm that, for the collectors out there, there will be a boxed version including some 'Collector's Edition' - type goodies for you to obsess over! ;) And - for the environmentally conscious among you - we'll also be releasing a PSN download version. When we have more firm news you'll find it here first.

As quite a few of you e-mail us with your ideas for games you would like us to bring to the European market, and ask questions on the products we already have for sale, we're also aiming to publish a Ghostlight blog in the very near future. This way it'll be easier for us to manage your questions and get you more info, more quickly. So, once the blog has been born, be sure to sign up to the RSS feed.

In the meantime, to keep up to date with all things Ghostlight related, please check back here regularly. Also, don't forget we have Twitter and Facebook pages where smaller pieces of info are leaked every now and then.

So, 'til the next instalment of J-RPG goodness; happy gaming!

The Ghostlight Team

Well I'm happy.

This is great news for the five people who haven't already imported the game.

You may have to wait for them to release it before you can buy it. ;)

Unless you're looking to import it, in which case VG+ has it in stock.

Haha, that's what I get for assuming that everyone is from Europe. :indeed:

Oh, well - just order it online. Can't be that hard to find if you're in the US.
