Edit: Wow! Australia is getting VVVVVV next week (October 4), damn that's late!

Indeed, you could even say that it's...

... VVVVVVery late. :awesome:

Sorry, I have a bit of extra time on my hands seeing as there have been no VC games to review since last week, nothing this Thursday either but at least it gives me a chance to review La-Mulana which currently I'm finding exceptionally hard but equally rewarding. :)

Why not just get ALTTP on the Wii? (You have one don't you?)

Thanks for the suggestion, but it would be the 50hz PAL version (which I've had before) and I also want to leave the Wii Virtual Console behind now. I'm hoping when Link to the Past next becomes available, it will at least be the 60hz version (which I think would happen on the 3DS) or 60hz and HD, which might happen on the Wii U. I do want to build up a big SNES collection, but only on the 3DS or Wii U.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the UK Wii VC was 50hz only. Fair point.

Well... NOUK didn't deny 60hz support on Wii U VC when I emailed them at least! So there's at least some hope! (running the 2D games in Hd res will do absolutely nothing though - they'll just look identical to how they look on Wii)

I see your point, but isn't it better to upscale at source? If I play my Virtual Console games in "Wii Mode", I suspect it will be up to the TV to upscale it (which it might not be good at), whereas the Wii U Virtual Console will (presumably) prepare everything for an HDTV natively. The fact that there is even a "Wii Mode" makes me think there will be at least something better about the files and emulators on the Wii U, even if they're the same games.

Nintendo will certainly not modify any Wii software retroactively, as they'd have to do QA for it again afterwards. It probably has more to to with downclocking the hardware and entering some kind of "hardware emulation" mode for the Wii. Kind of like the 3DS enters a DS mode when playing DS games and seems to boot its own OS again when you shut down the game.

They've already said that there will be no resolution modification when playing Wii games. That's what VC software is in the end. Why would they care for upscaling Wii software then, when they've left the task to the TV so far?

Well if your TV has a crappy scaler, then I suppose it might look a bit better than it did on Wii (and won't have any input lag that comes from the scaling process), but it wont really make much of a difference generally speaking if you already have a halfway decent TV.

The "Wii Mode" is no different from the 3DS' "DS Mode" or the DS' "GBA Mode". It's just a term for engaging the console's backwards compatibility mode, where it shuts off most of the new internal hardware and regresses itself back to the Wii specs. Nothing more need be read into it really.

Aha! We got some clarification regarding the cartridge save data transfer functionality with the retail eShop games...

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31964

Apparently the save transfer functionality won't be arriving until Spring next year. So it seems that it's gonna be part of a system update then! (That should mean that it's possible to backup and copy across save data to and fro with any game! :D)

Yay! :yay: (I wonder if certain games like Pokemon will block it from working though...)

Hi new here will mario golf GBC be coming out in the uk? Sure someone said 11 oct 2012 thanks

That's for the US, we don't have an EU date yet sadly.

Speaking of which, the US press release that NOA released after the EU Nintendo Direct has some surprises!

Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS Heats up for the Holidays

More Original Games, Classic Games and Recent Nintendo 3DS Hits Will Be Available Digitally in 2012

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo 3DS owners are getting an amazing lineup of downloadable games for the holidays and beyond. Original games, classic games and demos will all be making an appearance in the Nintendo eShop. Fans also will soon find downloadable versions of select Nintendo 3DS hits that have already launched as packaged goods.

Nintendo 3DS owners will see a sequel to fan-favorite Pushmo, classics like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania: The Adventure, plus a series of three original games developed by LEVEL-5 and several well-known Japanese collaborators.

"The Nintendo eShop demonstrates Nintendo's commitment to providing consumers with unique digital content through a combination of creativity and convenience," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "The variety and quality of games coming this year is unmatched, from new entries in established franchises to original properties."

The following content is scheduled to launch in the Nintendo eShop in 2012:

ORIGINAL GAMES

NightSky launches Oct. 25. NightSky is an action-puzzle game that offers an ambient game-play experience with cerebral challenges that fill uniquely designed, picturesque worlds. Each of these worlds is broken into different areas in which the player must maneuver a sphere by using realistic physics to advance.

Crashmo launches Nov. 22. Players can embrace the laws of gravity and challenge themselves with a whole new kind of action-puzzle play in this exciting sequel to the critically acclaimed Pushmo. New gravity mechanics and gadgets like floating blocks, doors and move switches await, testing players' skills as they push, pull and slide each puzzle's colorful blocks in order to climb to the top. Just be careful where those blocks are moved-unsupported blocks will come crashing down. Crashmo contains lots of puzzles to test your brains, and enhanced puzzle-creation and -sharing features mean that even when all the puzzles are cleared, the fun never has to stop.

Fluidity: Spin Cycle arrives on Dec. 27, letting players tilt, turn and even rotate their Nintendo 3DS system 360 degrees to maneuver a puddle of water named Eddy through a maze-like, magical world. Change from liquid to a block of ice or a steam cloud to solve fun, gravity-defying puzzles and defeat Goop monsters. Fluidity: Spin Cycle features a new storybook setting to explore that spans the ages, from a lost world full of dinosaurs to the modern world and beyond.

Three original games from LEVEL-5 and several well-known Japanese collaborators will launch in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS before this holiday season. The first of these games, SUDA 51's LIBERATION MAIDEN, is set 100 years in the future, when the president of Japan boards her Liberator, Kamui, and fights to free her country one region at a time. AERO PORTER by Yoot Saito and Yasumi Matsuno's CRIMSON SHROUD are also slated for release by the end of the year.

Get ready to unleash pedestrian-tossing pandemonium with Grace and Savannah in Tokyo Crash Mobs, a fast-paced action-puzzle game coming to the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS in early 2013. Players will need lightning-fast reflexes and an eye for strategy to survive the three chaotic weeks that lie ahead for our heroines, as they take on anyone and anything that gets in their way.

Oh dear, looks like we're gonna have to wait even longer for Cave Story 3DS now. Looks like Curly Mode is broken...

bP0Hp.jpg

There's a glitch that makes the first area impossible to pass through. VVVVVV had a similar issue where Flip Mode was broken and they wouldn't release it in Europe until it was patched and Cave Story Wii Ware was also held back until a patch for the US version was released that fixed various issues.

Trust Nicalis to fuck up once again

That's probably for the best

I wonder how many game breaking glitches will we see in Nightsky when it comes out next week in the US...

It's been quite a while since I downloaded anything from the eShop, does it still update around midafternoon on the Thursday?

Want to get my hands on Hana Samurai as soon as possible.

That was fast! Seems that Nicalis have already put out an update that fixes the Curly Mode bug in the US version!

Perhaps an EU release isn't as far off as I thought it might be...

Jools Watsham:

"I will have the release date for the FREE Mutant Mudds eShop update very soon. New 3D eShop trailer coming too. Excite!"

Lovely!

btw, what happened to Bomb Monkey?

EDIT: October 18th for the EU & the 25th for NA.

20 new levels

Tailor-made for Grannie's character

Levels are presented in a retro CGA theme

Grannie sports all three power-ups simultaneously

Levels require the use of the power-shot, extended hover, and vertical boost

Each of the 20 regular levels now have an added CGA-Land door in each

To reach these doors, the combined use of at least two of the power-ups is required

'Special tiny new smidge' of a bonus is presented to the player when all 20 new levels have been completed

Pretty sure he said he didn't have any plans to release it outside of the US. Don't think it sold very well either.

Has anyone tried watching the Nintendo TV eps on the eShop lately?

I tried to watch the newest ep last night as I hadn't seen it yet and was told "You Cannot View this content. The times during which this content can be viewed have been restricted"

Is this new? It only happens on the eps rated 18, teh ones rated 16 I can view fine. I don't have any parental controls turned on on my 3DS... are Nintendo really restricting these vids acros the board?

And what times are they available at? I tried to watch it last night after 10pm and it wouldn't let me.... still won't let me now?

No, haven't watched them since the 4/5th episode. But I would usually watch them right as the eShop weekly update happened, so we're talking around 2:00pm.

Have you tried again recently?

Yeah I tried last night, this morning and again right now... still the same... seems no matter what time I try it is telling it is not available at "this time"

Is this not happening to anyone else? Or has nobody else tried?

The same happens if I try to watch the Wii U conference vids that are rated 18 :heh:

Were Nintendo made to put a restriction on the vids but somehow forgot to input the "availble time" into the server :heh:
