What's your internet story?

 

I've been carousing the net for a hell of a long time now (must have been the mid 90's with BT or AOL tbh) I remember the curses of dial-up and the complaints if my daft sister picked the phone up to call some mate as I was JUST getting onto Microsoft Messenger (probably v1).

 

However, I've not really stuck to many sites since the net hit the mainstream. I can only think of here in recent memory. Social sites such as faceparty, bebo etc seem to come and go in popularity yet I thought it would be good to talk about the sites you've stuck with as I only have the following...

I remember seeing my brother on the net back in the days of dial up connection but my career in internet surfing didn´t begin until about 2001 (a internet odyssey)

 

But I mostly kept to Icelandic sites seeing as my download limit outside of Iceland was like 500 megs back then.

This is the only site I constantly come too and post right now.

We came to internet quite late, and when we eventually when we did get the stupidly slow dial up, which I was only allowed to use for like an hour a night. Back then I spent quite alot of time of internet games like Outwar and Project Rockstar, which were pretty shit and timewasteful in retrospect. Friends also played them which was good.

 

Then I didn't use internet much for a while, and then came back in full force when I got a computer in my room, when 15ish. Many wasted afternoons followed (much like now).

I didn't really begin my proper internet life until 2002/2003. I was however on the internet before this time, but that was only for school studies really and nothing else.

 

I've spent time on many sites over the years including Cube Europe, Rare Witch Project etc and many social network sites including Bebo, Myspace, Facebook etc.

 

Much of my internet time is spent on 2 main forums/sites being N-E and ZU (ZU was the first forum i was a regular member of, followed by all incarnations of N-E). Other sites i go regulary on include Youtube, BBC, Facebook and Gamespot.

My main forum in the old days was PTCO [Pokémon Trading Cards Online] where I traded cards with people all over the world.

 

Many other sites have been plagued under my wrath since.

I started properly (forums, youtube, games) on the internet about 5/6 years ago i would say. Actually the peak of this would have been around the time when i started WoW. Before then it was just PS2 and the Gamecube for all my gaming needs.

 

My mains sites i would say are here, BBC iplayer, youtube, HotUkDeals and a website called "piggymoo" which has every episode of Stargate on

Where to begin eh? I feel its been a pretty long journey, but you know what? It feels pretty good at the top.

 

Hilights and history of my journey

 

- Discovering the internet (Approximately 2000/2001)

- Internet porn

- Used chat rooms a lot

- Used chat rooms a lot, pretending to be a girl. Best thing ever.

- Internet webcam

- Met a chick in America called McKenna, and spoke to her OVER TEH NETz. (That was a mental day)

- Ermmm....hmmm. Not a huge amount happened for a while.

- Met a chick called Caroline. Went to meet her, and had my first sexual experience.

- Joined a few forums

- Met a chick called Kirsti, became awesome friends....things may have been very different these days in fact if it wasn't for certain things.

- Joined NE and YouTube at approx same time.

- Became funny internet person.

- Looking at current internet porn, compared with internet porn from years previous, we have come a significantly long way. Easily downloadable hardcore, to live web feeds, as opposed to a jpeg of some breasts, loading up a bar of pixels every few seconds.

- Facebook happened.

 

 

And now I am the funniest internet person in the world. What a journey. *Wipes tear*

My dad is an I.T Consultant, so I've got to play with everything at least once in my life, including early "popular" internet. I remember getting 20 minutes set aside every few nights to go on our dial-up. I use to only look at the official site for The New Batman/Superman Adventures, praying that it would come on TV in the UK. It eventually did a few years later.

 

This was 1998? Probably.

 

I never use Bebo now, did for ages, MySpace is shit, and I currently use Facebook. Only 2 major forums I've been on for years (and been prominent on); this and HCRealms.

One of the first websites I visited was N64-Europe. I haven't really stuck anywhere else - this is my internet home.

 

As for "social" sites. I used facebook before it went to shit (when it opened it's gates to everyone and added the applications).

I don't know when I really started browsing the net. But the first sites I remember using were Lego's site, this would have been back in the 90s, and eventually Nintendo's when I first got into gaming. Once I got access to a search engine. I think it was called sherlock, I began to really start using the internet. Soon I discovered google also. Once I found google, I basically did a google search for whatever I was looking for. Eventually, in 2006 I found N-E (R-E back then) and ever since I've been checking it every day for Nintendo news and reading and posting in the forums.

Early nineties I think. Started on the AOL chat rooms, and it all went downhill from there

 

Its hard to think that was nearly 20 years ago!

 

CE/RE/NE is probably the site I've been on the longest (except maybe faceparty, but its gone to shit these days)

Definately the year 2000, I started using Lycos chat alot, still remembered by some of the members on it apprently! Very interesting.

 

I think my longest was Bashanything I was an admin, unfortunetly due to the owner getting divorced etc after a few years it had to disappear. Shameful!

Back in the late 90's I remember going to a website called Pojo.com and printing off an extensive list of Pokemon and there attacks/attributes as well as finding out about the games/show along with Digimon and other things.

 

That is about it for then. Then later on in 2001-2003 I expanded to IGN/Gamespot for game news and Miniclip/Newgrounds and other flash game sites to play random games. Then I started to get into Anime and used websites such as Crunchyroll to watch different shows and such.

 

 

 

But I seriously didn't use the internet until 2007 I was afraid of it really! I was made to get an Email and at that point I decided to join here.

 

Before then I used to watch a lot of The Simpsons/Anime and play more videogames!

 

Now I use the internet a lot (perhaps too much. :p) and I've not looked back since. I use it for the latest gaming news/chatting/watching Anime/Youtube/generalness

 

Pretty much everything I did all the way back to 1998 but on a Bigger scale.

 

My most Visited websites are this and Last.fm, I instantly click them without even thinking. So yeah a pretty boring journey.

1998 when my year went to an activites camp in Weymouth. All I did was search for CBBC websites, we didn't get the Internets at home until late 1999 and then we only had dial-up, for which my parents locked away the extension cable causing me and my brothers to move the computer near to the phone line when my parents were at work.

 

We had sporadic usage when our parents would let us, then we got broadband in 2002 and I've done nothing but go on trawl the Internet since. I really got into the Internet using Pro Wrestling Simulator Enthusiast (Anyone else remember it?) where I really got into Extreme Warfare Revenge and so started using forums a hell of a lot, then I got banned from there and started using this place.

 

There are a lot of websites I go on everyday; Cinematical, Joystiq, N-Europe, Engadget, Facebook, Chortle, All Tomorrow's Parties, Pitchfork, BBC News, XKCD, YouTube and Videofriender.

 

And of course I look at copious amounts of hardcore pornography, mostly girls playing guitar in the shower.

Probably around 1999 I started to use the internet constantly. We didnt really use it much in school and I wasnt too fussed about it at home for a while. It wasnt until I got to college that I really started using the interwebs fully.

 

My hotmail says I registered early 2000 which makes sense but had a demon internet email address before that I think....

 

I've been part of this community since like 2001 and a lurker before that in the tim and gerben N64 page days.

 

Can't really say I've stuck to any other websites except this one.

I think we got a dial-up connectiom back in 2000 or somthing. We had to feed an extention cord from my room through the hall to the phone socket. Once in a while someone would trip over it and it would be wrenched from the wall.I started looking through the cbbc and nickelodeon sites, yahoo games that sort of stuff.

In 2002/3 we got broadband, thats when stuff really kicked off and i discovered the wonders of internet porn. I also started to pretend to be a 22 year old asian woman in yahoo chat rooms which i'm still doing to this day.

Going back further and slightly off the internet topic, I remember using a computer at primary school, in the 80's and all we used to seem to do was create word searches on it and play some weird maze game.

 

I remember it being a black screen with white txt and that was it. Think it was an acorn or something like that. Ha.
