I haven't got around to watching it yet but I'm planning to.

Spoiler

One thing I think they need to maybe change is the unprotected headshots. I've moaned before about how boring chair attacks are in wrestling now but I would rather have that than giving them all concussions and brain damage.

First episode of AEW Dynamite is up on the ITV Hub app if anyone is interested in watching. Sounds like they beat NXT in the ratings.

Good stuff. I'll give it a watch over the weekend.

Yeah, they wiped the floor with NXT in terms of ratings. It will be interesting to see if this remains the case going forward. Anything that gives Vince a kick up the backside is good in my eyes. WWE has been coasting along for years now and it's great that some competition has finally emerged.

I'll be checking out this week's episode of Smackdown. I haven't watched it for years but with The Rock making an appearance it's now a must watch episode.

Watched Dynamite on ITV Hub in the end, there were some technical difficulties so i did get the Fite pass as a back-up.  Wasn't a bad show, strange hearing JR commentating on something other than a WWE broadcast.  Will be interesting how they go from here, and will the ratings continue to beat NXT.  Hopefully this might wake WWE up a bit and encourage some better RAW/Smackdown broadcasts.

I’m just finishing off Dynamite at the moment and think it’s been a great show. First time in years that I’ve been able to watch a weekly wrestling show and not feel the need to fast forward.

While I do agree that you’d hope this kind of stuff will force both companies to produce better products I have to say that even if the WWE did improve a hell of a lot, I still wouldn’t be watching them. They’re just a dirty company that doesn’t deserve to exist anymore. All the Saudi stuff especially has soured me on them so much that I’m completely done with them. They’ve got a load of very talented wrestlers so I hope I can see them elsewhere someday where they will actually be used well.

So tonight’s WWE Smackdown will be interesting since the majority of their roster are apparently still stuck in Saudi Arabia due to plane issues.

I had been thinking about that recently and what a risky idea it is to hold two large live events across two days so far apart.  I guess they’re fortunate that the majority of female wrestlers didn’t go, along with the likes of Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn.  Expect a lot of women wrestling tonight and a load of NXT call-ups if the first match is anything to go by.

I see CM Punk made an appearance on WWE last night. What a sell out. The dude has spoke at length how he hated the company and that he would never work with them again. I guess money talks. I'm very disappointed with him. :nono:

I'm not too surprised. From what I've heard over the years he's just a bit of an arrogant creep so I can see him going back on all the stuff he said, especially after proving to be a massive flop in UFC. I think his reaction to links to AEW over the past year was telling as well, it was oddly dismissive of them in a way that felt like he was trying to keep WWE onside for his eventual return.

Yeah, his dismissal of AEW always seemed weird to me. They are allowing their wrestlers to be creative and open, something which Punk wanted, and yet he doesn't seem too fussed about them. You make a good point that he was probably just biding his time to cash in with WWE.

Have you been watching much AEW so far?

I'm really enjoying what I've been seeing and it's nice to be able to enjoy wrestling again on a weekly basis. I think they could probably use a couple more big names for recognition but it's been a really positive start.

I've caught bits and pieces on Youtube (I really need to get the ITV Hub set up on my TV) and what i've seen has be fantastic. It just feels like the Attitude Era of WWE. It seems the brand is just going from strength to strength and I wouldn't be surprised if more big names eventually head over to it. Saying that, I quite like seeing unknowns rise through the ranks and I can see that happening a lot in AEW.

One thing I'm looking forward to is the eventual change of Womens Champion and seeing how that ridiculously small belt will look on anyone other than Riho 😆

(Speaking of the Womens division I just want it known that I am already in love with Hikaru Shida)

Sounds like Kairi Sane had a rough night at the TLC ppv with a probable concussion early on. Seems like Asuka and Becky Lynch realised and tried to protect her but for whatever reason Charlotte carried on as normal, even giving her a proper slap after a botched spear. The WWE referees should have stopped the match when it was obvious something was wrong. At one point poor Kairi was basically lying on the floor with tears in her eyes while Asuka had to help her up.

Might not mean much but I remember reading that the deal was with FS1 the Fox Network that shows Backstage (the show he was on) I don’t know if he will be back on main WWE tv.

Guess there’s not long left before WWE goes to BT Sport now. Still won’t be getting it for that alone and will now just find other ways to watch it

It’s another stacked card! I never realised they ran it over two nights. That’s a good idea with the sheer volume of matches.

So BTSport will be showing NXT and NXTUK on their channel. Big news and great for everyone. Still not enough to get me to get the channel as I have the Network and can watch them there even if NXT is still delayed 24 hours. And I’ll just use other means to watch Raw and Smackdown.

Wrestle Kingdom 14 was pretty great. Maybe was hurt a bit by splitting it over two nights but it had some amazing matches. I'm just waiting for them to announce their next UK date now, hopefully could come out tomorrow during New Years Dash.

Watching Jushin Thunder Liger's retirement event at New Year's Dash at the moment (sneaky second screen at work). Tis sad :(

EDIT: This was a bad idea to watch at work, I'm welling up here!

Decided to watch AEW at the start of the year given a couple of people were on about it when I was back home. Seen the first three episodes of the year and I have to say I'm liking it so far. It feels similar to how the WWE used to a few years ago but without all the bullshit (stupidly long boring segments and pointless matches), which is obviously great. The quality of the wrestling is really good even if the storylines haven't really grabbed me that much.

One thing that has impressed me is how professional it all looks. The arenas and presentation are really up there and I will forever love Good Ol' JR. I watched TNA for a few years back when they had a weekly show (think it was 2005-7, before Impact!) and despite really loving it, it always came off as a bit knock-off and amateurish. Definitely don't get that vibe with AEW. While they don't have much in the way of big name talent, I like some of the guys they do have, especially Sammy Guevara and MJF, who is possibly the best heel I've seen in a very long time. I love everything about this asshole. Such a great gimmick that he plays really well.

It's been almost 10 years since I've watched wrestling, bar the odd Wrestlemania, so I'm looking forward to checking these guys out on PPV, and I'll decide then whether I stick with it. WWE, it seems, definitely need some competition, so at least they have something to aim for.

Tonight is the WWE Royal Rumble, always one of the events I am most excited about in the year!

For me, the actual Royal Rumble matches have fallen considerably under the radar as far as WWE hyping them up.  I’m hoping this means they are going to spring a surprise or two and actually under-advertising it will end up with them being better than expected.

As long as the Men’s match doesn’t become a Brock Lesnar gauntlet match I’m predicting the following:

Woman’s match: Winner Ronda Rousey with final 4 being her, Charlotte, Sasha Banks & Shayna Baisler.

Men’s match: Winner Roman Reigns with final 4 being him, Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor.

I might watch it through "other means" but I'm no longer interested in giving the WWE money to watch it on the Network. To be honest though the Rumble used to be the one PPV that would drag me back in, at least until Wrestlemania but there is so much wrestling worth watching elsewhere now along with WWE constantly squandering their talent that even the Rumble doesn't interest me li,e it used to.
