Dante
Game maker Nintendo Co Ltd will team up with ad agency Dentsu Inc to launch a video distribution service on the Wii console, in a move to establish a new revenue stream, the Nikkei business daily said. The two firms plan to offer cartoons and other entertainment programmes created for the new service to differentiate it from other online content delivery operations, which often offer existing programmes, the Nikkei said on Thursday. Nintendo and Dentsu will start the new service early next year in Japan, followed by overseas launches later in the year, the paper said. www.reuters.com
Emasher
Interesting, but it sounds more like a service just to watch a very limited amount of shows that nobody will really care too much about. Perhaps if they had stuff like live broadcasts of Nintendo events and such it might be worth while.
Shino
Actually, it sounds like Anime on demand. It would be huge.

Konfucius
Super Mario Super Show on demand. I was thinking the same thing and it scared the hell out of me. But seriously why can't Nintendo go with what everyone else does. Instead they are opting for a more family-oriented (I know it doesn't say that here but in there) approach. Why not have both? Emasher
Since the Wii only does 480p, I just can't see it becoming popular as a serious Movie DD platform. Perhaps the Wii HD, but I'd rather use another DD service or Optical Media that I can use the watch the movies at my TV's full resolution. Not to mention get real 5.1 sound. Its not a big deal for games, but with movies you notice more.
