Living Alone

Recommended Posts

People seem pretty split by this, some people say they'd be fine with it others really wouldn't like it. What's your stance? Do you think you could comfortably live alone?

I feel I can, I like my own company and all. But I would need to feel like I have friends I can call up and say "hey lets hang" (or something a bit less American teen but you get the drift) which at the moment I don't feel like. However at the moment I do feel like I live alone because my housemate and her boyfriend are always in her room. (and at the moment I am alone as she's gone home for six weeks so its just me).

The one down side I do see to living alone (other than constantly having to make sure I take my keys) is at night when im lay in bed im more conscious of noises. Paranoia I suppose but normally I'd think "oh its my housemate" or just feel safer knowing there was someone else there.

I've rambled enough.

I could live alone, but I wouldn't be happy.

Even if I had a lot of friends round the whole time, its just not the same as living with someone!

Lived by myself in Germany and I did get pretty lonely! I love my own space when needed but nothing beats having good company!

I always think "sure', as I enjoy my own company, but I think that's cause I know I can always go and find a family member to have fun with around the house If need be.

I always think I'll end up living alone in the future, but not by choice (more that I'm really difficult to live with I think). =P

But it's not something I'd like to do, as I get extremely paranoid when I'm alone in a house. Even in my own house, I really don't feel comfortable when it's just me; I hear strange noises everywhere and think there's strangers coming in and whatever.

Plus it gets really lonely. When I lived on my own in Brussels, I felt so extremely lonely all the time, even though I lived in a building with about 20 other people (who I all couldn't stand). >.>;

So yeah, not something I'd like to do really, but sometimes you don't have a choice in these kind of things.

If I lived near my friends I could probably do it.

I'd drive myself insane otherwise. Which could be interesting. either that or I'd top myself.

I like time to myself but I've realised recently that I enjoy lots of 'shots' of me time.

Even though I like being alone, I'd probably go insane. I'm not really the kind of person who would end up hanging out with friends, but who knows.

Since starting to Uni I've discovered I really, really like living with others (not just family), and would just go crazy if living alone.

Easy. I love the calm and efficiency of living alone. Being able to create an utterly disasterous mess is priceless. Theres just nothing like having your own private space where you are totally free. My home is somewhat dark and cosy like a nest - its great to come inside from outside stress and panic and just relax in a meditative silence where you can even control the noise. Sure its cool to have the TLC of the opposite/same sex here and there and sex every night is cool... But if you're alone, you've probably got archives of harder stuff which require no need for thinking if anyone is satisfied or whatever. But then you could always invite your other half if you need some nooky.

Its just pure freedom.

I used to live on my own, it sucked. Living with LB is bad ass though! :)

What's with all the name changes anyway - is it just a Christmas thing?

I enjoyed living on my own. Then my girlfriend moved in.

It's nice having her round all the time. She's great fun but people who live with me drive me crazy. I'm not a neat freak or anything, but I like stuff to be reasonably tidy. And when I'm tidying up and I come across some of her stuff that I don't know what to do with it pisses me off cos I can't tidy properly.

While I was on my own, I had Xbox Live and my dog for company so it never felt like I was totally alone. Sleeping at night wasn't a problem - I sleep better on my own.

I think would like it. I keep to myself most of the time anyway.

Same here

As long as I had something to make sure I left the house every day I could do it easily.

Yeah staying in the house all day, when everyone you know is at work or whatever, would get pretty stale.

Then I wonder if the novelty might run out. I've never lived on my own to really know, so it might swing either way tbh.

Just to clarify; I'm fine sleeping on my own but I mean when the house is empty then I become more paranoid about noises. I blame my overly paranoid mother.

I could live on my own for a while, but i guess in the end i would go insane as there would be no-one else to talk to but myself.

I practically do anyways. I work at nights so I'm at home doing fuck all in the day [When everyone else is at work], so when they're home and socialising with other gringo's I'm serving pints to old pricks.

Lived on my own a few times, for all the advantages of your own space and privacy, not to mention people eating your food, it just gets too dull. On the other hand though I've lived in shared houses before with up to a dozen other people, which was just hellish.

Bright side of my current housemate is she's allergic to wheat and diary so theres not much she can steal from me.

Although yeah that was a constant argument with my brothers, they would presume anything in the house is up for grabs. I think my siblings made me want to live alone.

Living alone is EXPENSIVE. Its a ton of weight off your shoulders having 2 incomes and 2 vehicles, etc.

However, I recommend everyone try living alone for at least a short period. Itll quickly teach you how to survive on your own and make you appreaciate the value of your hard-earned (or mooched) money.

I reckon I'd cope quite well living on my own, as long as I could still hang out with mates I reckon I'd be fine.

I would quite like to have a house mate, though, but I'd have to get on with them very well. Ultimately, just as long as I can move out of my parents then I'll be happy!

I could but wouldn't want to. Like others have said I enjoy my own space and free time but would like somebody to be there when I need them to. And like Ashley I would hate hearing all of the noises at night.

That's an awesome trait for a house/flatmate.
