Calza Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 As part of Red Alert 3's promotion EA are offering the first Red Alert to be downloaded for absolutely nothing, not even a newsletter sign-up. http://www.ea.com/redalert/news-detail.jsp?id=62 And if you pre-order RA3 you get RA2 free as well. But everybody may as well download RA since its a piece of RTS history.
MoogleViper Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I've only ever played a demo of Red Alert. But it didn't seem as awesome as C&C (can't remember which one, I think it was the one before.).
flameboy Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 tis an awesome game well worth the freebie download if you have never played it.
Haden Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Dling now used to play this loads during the day. Can we play this game online im guessing theres no support for a 13 year old game now haha. But as its free if we could did people want some games? I mean surely literally everyone with a computer would be able to play it. Could anyone actually check that out? Im doing my disseration atm so wont be able to dl it for a while. Would it just be direct IP connections or is there any lobby system at all?
Tom Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 the site says it's not vista compatible, is it easy to sort out to play on vista?
Tellyn Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 the site says it's not vista compatible, is it easy to sort out to play on vista? Buggery...
Calza Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 It says further down on the page - "This software contains support for Windows XP/98/Me/95 with installation instructions. This software is not supported by Windows Vista, however there are community driven strategies and tips available for making the software function on Vista which you can find on our various fan-sites. " It probably will work fine but I guess there may be a couple of bugs, looks like i'm gonna need to find one of those fan-sites.
MoogleViper Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Would running it in another compatibility make it playable on Vista? Also I'm struggling to find any of these fan sites.
Calza Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 I saw somebody posted this on NeoGaf (Aw c'mon its a Sunday, I'm bored...) "Works fine in Vista as long as you follow the install instructions provided with the download. Ran the patch (also included in the download) in XP compatibility since it was in a folder called XP Patch, and then ran the game in Win95 compatibility with administrator rights and I was able to do the first mission with no issues other than the fact I don't know how, or indeed if it's possible, to run the game in a window rather than fullscreen."
MoogleViper Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Has anybody got it working yet? I can't even get it to install.
FireEmblem Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I recommend it to anyone who hasn't had the chance to play it yet. There's also a good chance new Red Alert won't be as good as the first two.
Sheikah Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Great game at the time, but probably a bit too dated for me to try again. I have the PS1 version - I still remember a lot of the missions and the crazy video sequences that accompanied them.
Shorty Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 This game was awesome at the time but it's pretty dated. And it took all the expansion packs for it to be great. The level designer was really good back in the day and the soviets were unbeatable with their best subs. That said, I couldn't get it working on Vista and got bored and gave up, it's too old to be worth the hassle! Plus I still have the game on disk somewhere....
