Ha ha ah ah ha ha! I'm CRAZY?!?!!

Recommended Posts

I have Vista, I turned off UAC and I've been running without anti-virus for the last two months! Ha ha!

Join me! My computer gets into windows quicker, I have more free resources and ... well ... that's about it. The last time I had a virus warning was years ago when I was surfing some warez site looking for a keygen. So ... why bother with the protection?

Go without, you probably won't catch anything!

Join me! Ah ha ha ha ha!

I think I'm doing that too. Mine might have a virus protector but I think it ran out of license so isn't much use. I should really update it but my computer has been running perfectly with out on. :)

The computer downstairs has virus protection and is having big problems!

Good advice Mr. Odwin. :D

I've turned off UAC but get a stupid message at the bottom of my screen instead. I'm sure I turned it off in msconfig but it just came back again.... Any ideas?

I'm not risking it, did it before getting Anti-Virus for my PC and ended up getting a huge Trojan which seriously mucked the PC up to a point when it wouldn't even boot even on safe mode. Think when i had it back, it had 35 viruses and 12 Trojans and was littered with Spy-Ware, Mal-Ware and Ad-Ware. Now protected with zero problems.

I run XP with AVG free and Vista with UAC off and without Antivirus and it runs fine indeed. The only Viruses I ever get are ones that aren't detected by the Antivirus but completely fuck up my Computer (happened twice so far).

So I still get Viruses but also have an Antivirus that slows down my PC. Lose lose situation for me.

I must say though that AVG 7 free served me well so far. It's pretty fast and gives me the feeling of being protected.

I've been shagging this girl for the last 2 months without protection! She's not pregnant yet!

Join me, flush the condoms down the loo BEFORE sex :D

(story probably not true, like hell do i want to run the risk of a wee nipper ;))

I just realised how annoying that is, and went to find how to turn it off. It's nice an simple: click on the "Windows Security Alerts" icon in the bottom right corner, and on the left-hand menu of the newly opened window you'll find that the 6th (for me) option is "Change the way Security Centre alerts me". Give it a click, and the rest is like falling off a log.

I keep the Firewall on just out of habit, really. I have UAC turned off as I run Prevx instead, which I will swear blind is the best anti-bad shit software out there. Unlike something like Norton, it works. :o

It'd take a bigger set of balls than the one I own to go onto the internet without any from of protection, I've lost too many PC's that way.

Literally the last time an antivirus did anything for me was about four years ago. For me your analogy would be better if it was about wearing a condom all the time but not having sex - I don't open dodgy email attachments, I don't surf warez sites, I don't download warez, I don't surf porn sites. I am an intelligent user that has decided against using antivirus.

I sit behind a firewall in my router and I've left Windows software firewall up and running, but no antivirus.

Yep that's what I do. Anti Virus are incredibly flawed, they search file through their hash.

Everytime you turn on your computer just right click it and turn exit it out. Oddly enough eventually it will just stop coming.

Exactly. Anti-virus and firewalls are there for people like my mum who constantly download videos from chain mails and my sister who downloads spyware ridden smiley-packs for msn and "desktop buddies". Even then, most of them *cough*Norton*cough* cause more trouble than they repair.

My Girlfriend's Mum's computer takes about 15 minutes to boot because it's running AOL with Norton anti virus and firewall, AOL firewall, Windows Firewall, and then about 50 other startup programs. When you (eventually) open a browser (AOL browser) it has about 12 different toolbars for searching google or yahoo or other random things.

I disabled UAC as soon as I got Vista, and got rid of that little notification in the taskbar too. Happy to keep Windows' own firewall running as it does not use up much memory.

I currently run AVG8 without the link scanner, AVG7.5 is still running on my server mind.

My laptop has no anti virus and no software firewall... but it is connected through a stupidly strong hardware firewall though.

I think i may be removing AVG8 from my desktop tonight.

This is too true. And why all of my computers have insanely long uncrackable passwords. :heh:

My sister never updates her AV, and downloads the biggest load of cack like you mention above. Someone hacked her msn account and got a hold of a load of files from her computer... o_o She managed to get her msn access back after some emails to MS. I updated and ran the AV. I think she had close to 100 viruses. :shakehead

*facepalm*

I agree. Even if you are careful, it is better to have an A.V just to be sure..

I would say a lot of you put your credit card details into a website... So what if an unnoticed keylogger is on your system? :shakehead

To be honest it's tempting but a bit shortsighted. I mean you can be careful, but for all you know you're part of some botnet that takes part in DDOS attacks or send massive amounts of spam. It may not affect you, but irresponsible people running Windows without protection software are affecting other users daily. Keyloggers and the likes aren't really going to be noticable on your system either.

Your last virus warning being years ago doesn't mean there's no infection on your system... Especially considering you don't have anything that would warn you turned on.

Thus proving that AntiVirus software is mostly useless.

What sort of logic is that O_o

Just because you don't get a virus for years, doesn't mean you won't ever get one. :indeed:

I have Windows Firewall and AVG8 running. My system startup is hardly effected by it.

But it is true though, it does take a shorter amount of time to boot without them... but I don't see around 10 seconds less of boot-time worth the unprotection.

Exactly. You've royally fucked your computer up the ass if it takes a stupid amount of time to start up.

Or get a firewalled router.
