i really looked forward to this game because it looked simular to the tales of series from namco.

 

all my excitement disapeared when i found out that its turned based....

Don't be a wet blanket, it doesn't even feel turn based and it's fast paced as hell.

 

Plus, I usually hate card based RPG's, now suppose I took that to heart and never touched stuff like... Baten Kaitos Origins? Poor me I say. IMO as gamers we have to be more open to new/different experiences and know how to see their pros and cons.

 

Give it a chance ;)

 

 

I for one am really glad it's turn based, because if it was a Action-RPG then it would just be a Tales fork that couldn't even stray away a little, this way it's more than that, surely.

i dont mind turned based battles, as long as it adds to the experiance and fits with the game, But Arc Rise Fantasia has tales of clone all over it.

 

The weird thing is that Turned based was created due to hardware limitations of the nes/snes. But turned based games nowadays need a twist, Baten kaitos has a twist to it, therfore i really hope nintendo will pull true and make Baten kaitos 3 (because they acuaired monolith soft).

 

But sinse monolith is currently developing the action rpg monado the beginning of the world, it could take awhile. Monado beginning of theworld was announced after the press conference:

Pity you're calling it a Tales clone when you're asking for it to be a carbon copy of it. It isn't, feels Tales and Tales fans will love it, but it's also more than that.

Wrong, turn based weren't there due to limitations but merely because role playing games steamed from that formula. If you think back they worked like S-RPG's without a grid, you could take x steps before encountering a enemy and stuff, and the battle system was like that... because everything was. Action games weren't turn based due to limitations back then, were they? and the first fighting games weren't turn based too. And we could go on.

 

Plus... why do we need a spin when stuff like Chrono Trigger is still awesome for newcomers? I agree dungeon crawlers feel dated now, as does taking 5 steps and bang random battle... but this game features a properly updated turn based system that has a spin to it.

 

Turn based is a choice. And no matter how I look at it I think you're just being stubborn. You wanted Action RPG, sure, we got that, I don't think this kind of reasoning is fair though, just seems like you're taking out on it for not being what you wished for. (also, know that if I felt the game wanted and should be action based instead but isn't I'd be criticizing it for that... it does no such thing).

That's the Soma Bringer Team, they have other teams.

That's the game I am currently looking most forward too. When was it's US release date as I am not sure that I really want to wait for the European release (maybe I would even buy both, to encourage Rising Star games to bring more of those titles here).

its bettered censored, looked ridiculous before...

 

I agree with Diageo. It looks way better now. I mean I have nothing against seeing "more" but before it looked a bit stupid. Now it fits way better (I mean regarding her complete outfit).

 

I seem to have missed that post somehow.

 

I don't care one way or the other about the censoring, but the pics that were censored were blurry and the colors didn't pop as much. I didn't like that. Hopefully it's something to do with the TV rather than the version of game, since pedrocasilva's screens look fine in that respect.

It probably means nothing but Amazon.com lists the release date now as 17th February 2010.

Does anyone know if the US release date was pushed back?

Not officially, but most likely... yes. since most retailers are moving it towards 2010 now, and we still haven't seen english screenshots or anything. (plus, XSEED has titles like Fragile set for Q4 2009, they probably don't want to compete against themselves in the same genre)

 

I don't think the game will be out in Q4 2009 in US.

cutscene needs no comment, I think ;) check out the different expressions going on in here, it's really a scene where the facial animation system and motion capture makes a difference. And it looks even better in movement.

However, if that is the case, i guess I won't import it as the European release date would be more or less the same then and I want to encourage Rising Star to continue what they are doing in bringing such good titles to Europe.

I'll buy from whoever brings it out first and/or with the best goodies. Rising Star will probably have the same cover as the Japanese one, which, when compared to the US one (if that's final, that is) is way better, though.

They included the OST to the game? That's nice. I would like to see this with more games. I just find it ridiculous that the release an OST individually from the game as the game itself contains the soundtracks already anyway.

IGN update. First hour playthrough.

 

US, March 5, 2010 - It's been well over a year since we last saw Arc Rise Fantasia at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show. The traditional Japanese role-playing game was released in its homeland last summer and will be arriving stateside later this year. We recently played through the first hour or so and are starting to get a sense of what the story and battle system are like. If you played Luminous Arc on the Nintendo DS, Arc Rise Fantasia comes from the same developer. Composer Yasunori Mutsuda, of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears fame, provides the soundtrack.

 

This is a very classically-styled JRPG with an anime look that should make fans of Tales of Symphonia and Star Ocean feel right at home. You play as L'Arc, a soldier in the Meridian Empire out to save his country from invading monsters (in true JRPG fashion, he wields a sword that is three times his size). Along the way he'll recruit party members that bring unique abilities to combat. The game begins with an air battle between the Empire and a swarm of Feldragons. L'Arc is knocked off his airship and lands in a forest where he encounters a strange girl named Ryfia. Ryfia is a "Diva" who likes to sing and is the first to join up with L'Arc.

 

Ryfia here is a Diva.

L'Arc is the stoic military type while Ryfia is all about nature and butterflies. As you might imagine, the two quickly develop some romantic tension and as more characters are introduced players will bear witness to love triangles and squares. L'Arc and Ryfia are soon reunited with the Prince of the Meridian Empire, who happens to be L'Arc's childhood friend and current employer. When the trio attempt to make contact with a general in the army they are suddenly attacked by an arcane bad guy with purple hair who can summon monsters.

 

While the game is mostly 3D, much of the exposition is delivered by 2D talking heads. The version we played contained the original Japanese language voice track but it is currently being localized for English. Unfortunately for you otakus out there, the Japanese voice track won't be included as an option in the English release.

 

In battle you spend AP points to assign actions to the characters in your party, and then confirm your choices to end your turn. You don't have direct control of any character – you can instruct them to move to specific areas of the combat zone but you won't be doing any free running. To speed up the battle process you can set tactics for each character and let them make their own decisions. You can customize each weapon with special orbs, and while this system doesn't play a big part in the first hour of the game it sounds like it will provide players with a lot of options in battle. Arc Rise is controlled with the remote and nunchuck -- no Classic Controller, unfortunately.

 

UPDATE: So apparently that "no Classic Controller" nonsense was just a mean joke played on us. Arc Rise Fantasia will support the Classic Controller. Huzzah!

 

In combat, you can keep assigning actions to your party members as long as you have AP to spend.

You can see monsters running around the environment, so there are no pesky random battles here. When moving around the world map you become a giant so you can quickly get to your destination – there are still enemies roaming around, though. Arc Rise looks very nice running in progressive scan and true widescreen. The forest areas you explore early in the game are lush and vibrant.

 

Arc Rise Fantasia should be on shelves this summer. The story will take you around 60 hours to play through -- more if you complete all the side quests. Fans of JRPGs should definitely keep an eye on this one. We've just scratched the surface of this enormous game but what we've seen so far looks promising.

Other gamers arent like this because of Ignition Entertainment.

 

- XSEED was going to release the game, they do good localizations.

- Ignition stole it, promising to do a great job on it.

- Dub sucks.

- Dub is incomplete.

- Game is taking forever to be released.

- Translation and English writing doesn't seem so hot, just like all other Ignition RPGs.

- Japanese version is already 20 bucks on a budget label.

- It's coming out at a time where there are tons of other solid titles to get on every platform.

Dammit, Ignition should just go bankrupt already, they snatch the rights for the games all right, but their localizations seriously suck and they never actually deliver.

 

No, that's yet another "promise" the bastards didn't go through with.

 

Here's hoping Rising Star goes over this crap when it comes to the PAL release. Prepare to shoot some emails too, since they colaborated with fans on getting some language translation into fragile perhaps they'll listen when we tell them we don't want that crappy dub?

 

Either way... DAMN, the original had such awesome voice acting... I'm considering playing it to the finish in japanese now, and skip the english version all together.

They don't have japanese voices, I want original, forgot the fact I can never understand what they are saying. :indeed:

 

If the voices are bad, then I'll just do what I did with Baten Kaitos and mute the voices. I find it funny how voices are now the decision on buying a game. (I would love a good english cast to do the voices, but if not then why should that ruin a perfectly good game? )

Are you sure you will be able to mute the characters? Wish I could mute vanille in FF13. ¬_¬

Interesting preview. The voice acting is pretty dodgy going by the snippets shown... it says that the game is out in the states next month, any news on when it'll be out over here?
