LazyBoy Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 All right gents, with E3 approaching I thought this would be a perfect time to start getting our hopes up for the eventual disappointment. Now Starfox is a game that started brilliantly, with two great games, Lylat Wars in particular being a huge amount of fun. However the last few games have seen the series being raped sideways so that any dignity it had has been driven out of it. Thus I think this is the perfect time for its big comeback, and this is how I think it should happen. Firstly, the Wiimote is perfect for this game. Holding it sideways, tip left/right, forward/back to move the aim as such and thus move the craft. Hard jerk in either direction to barrel roll/spin. A shoot, B bomb. Controls will be tight. The levels should be traditional in design, though loads of different paths, and more secret powerups. More epic battles (independence day level). Upgradeable craft. Online/split screen multiplayer mode. Self explanatory really, with all the trimmings. Co-op mode and counter-op mode. Now, the presentation. This is where I really want the change, and unfortunately the least likely to happen. This game is so unfashionable it is ridiculous, and so I think it should take a new spin on itself. Make fun of itself. More than that, go satire. The industry is ripe for parody at the moment, with every game being about over pumped steroid fueled brain dead jocks, and I reckon Starfox should be the Naked Gun to the game's industry's Action genre. Anyway, your ideas, lets hear them.
Tellyn Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 After all the threads and news today, I'm really hyped for E3. I think that Command was a step in the right direction, the strategy element was great. How about the analogue stick to move your ship (then possibly hold Z and jerk it left or right to do a barrel roll) and then the shooting is controlled by the pointer, with the lasers set to the B trigger and bombs on A.
killer kirby Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 And this time I hope a Nintendo team makes the game, instead of a third party team.
Emasher Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I've really got to get some of the older star fox games, I only have adventures which I think they were trying to mimic OoT and MM with it but failed. But I think Nintendo will do a much better job this generation. I'm thinking it will be another one of those games with 3 or 4 control schemes. like brawl or Mario Kart.
Guest Jordan Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Step 1: EAD should develop it. Step 2: Make it about shooting. Step 3: Don't make this a Sonic game, ditch the useless characters. Make it about the core team and do a prequel if you need to. Step 4: Don't make it play like shit.
Cube Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 A on-rails game. Move around with the analogue stick, aim with the Wii Remote. Make it a bit speedy and a few multiple routes leading to different levels.
Dan_Dare Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 on satire: Lylat Wars was a goldmine of cross references and quasi parody. It basically plundered every classic sci fi movie in the universe between levels. They should just keep it up. who made the latest one? they should headhunt the guys who made Panza Dragoon Orta and get them involved.
Tellyn Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Give the series to Treasure and see what happens. That'd be interesting. They confirmed earlier this year that they were working on an untitled Wii project. EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Co._Ltd Two Wii projects. One's an action game, one's just unnamed. Wikipedia isn't the best source, but I remember the original story.
mcj metroid Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 kill me if you want but i thought star fox assault was the way forward but badly executed.. it cant go on that "lylat wars" with updated graphics routine.. the gameplay is just dated so they have to add something.
ReZourceman Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Back to basics' then ; - Add customizeable power ups, many different choices for lasers including gameplay effecting elements e.g. "Solar laser ; +5% damage to rear engine spacecraft" etc and non gameplay effecting elements, e.g. chose the colour of the laser. - Customizable body work/paint job/logos would be a nice touch, but not steering to far from the iconic Star Fox look. - Have a mixture of on-rails shooter, as well as free running elements, merging the two seemlessly. - Throw in a few different types of vehicles, including one level where you get to pilot huge gigantic vehicles, against an onslaught of equally big enemies for a truly epic feel. - Humour.
mcj metroid Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Back to basics' then ; . Star fox assault could have worked if namco didn't create it. It was a little too ambitious. But imagine a game like warhawk on the wii. arwing vs tank? CMON you know you want it! .. they tried the basics thing with starfox ds more or less and I thought it was terrible.
Retro_Link Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 - Unlockable Mii Crew. 4 player co-op Mii mode, where your Mii's replace the Starfox characters throughout the game/cutscenes. Soz, but I just love the use of Mii's in games! Other than that: - Mix of On-rails and Open [independance day] levels. - EPIC space battles/scenes. - Return to the original team/characters. - Multiple routes through levels [replayability]. - 'Hidden' planets/levels to unlock [via taking certain routes through levels or alternate end of level scenarios etc.]. - Co-op.
Cube Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 - Co-op. It would be great if they made 4 paths through each level (one for Fox, Falco, Peppy and The Bastard Frog) for Co-op (and to select a character for singleplayer at the start once you've completed the game once).
ReZourceman Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It would be great if they made 4 paths through each level (one for Fox, Falco, Peppy and The Bastard Frog) for Co-op (and to select a character for singleplayer at the start once you've completed the game once). Now that is a classy idea. Great incentive for single player replay.
Retro_Link Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It would be great if they made 4 paths through each level (one for Fox, Falco, Peppy and The Bastard Frog) for Co-op (and to select a character for singleplayer at the start once you've completed the game once).Yeah very nice idea, and the paths could overloop and connect up at certain points throughout the level before splitting up again; so brief opportunities arise to help out a fellow team-mate, or you all join up to kick some of the more difficult set pieces!
Cube Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Online Co_Op. Can you feel it? As long as they only do it after sorting out 4-player local co-op.
david.dakota Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I like the idea of adding story, and perhaps clever parody too. Controls: Nunchuk Anaolgue stick - altitude, direction. Tilt forwards - speed up Tilt backwards - slow down Z Button - Target Lock C Button - Aerial Skill (eg, click and hold C, tilt nunchuk up to perform loop-da-loop, down to quickly drop altitude and under enemies, perhaps even combining both Remote and Nunchuck for manauvers - pull up on both to enter a vertical climb and back down, tagetting particular ground based enemies, like cannons. Remote Pointer - amining (BWii-style with lock on) A Button - Fire B Button - Bomb D-Pad - Command Wingmen. - and + Button - Beam Select (ideas for beams... Gravity Beam - creates a magnetic field on up to 4 enemy ships, forcing them to crash together; Chain Beam - links enemy ships together with electrical force inducing power outages onboard, bringing them down). Some bosses can be killed easier by using these weapons. 1/2 Autopilot. Fox switches autopilot on (1), and jumps onto the wing (looking like one cool Fox), and blasts away at footsoldiers on cliffs. Analogue stick controls camera around ship, while pointer continues aiming function). 2, gets back in and take control of the ship. Some nice set peices too. How about Fox's ship is downed, he parachutes down, using his blaster to down drones? As long as out-of-ship areas are as good as the flight sections, then lets see 'em (afterall, Fox does have a blaster...)- or perhaps having a choice on some levels (take down the enemy base by Arwing, or land and stealthily take on the land forces).
Blue_Ninja0 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Step 1:EAD should develop it. Step 2: Make it about shooting. Step 3: Don't make this a Sonic game, ditch the useless characters. Make it about the core team and do a prequel if you need to. Step 4: Don't make it play like shit. EAD should definitely develop it. Either EAD or SPD. Step 3 is very important. And make it on-rails with the casual exception to some dog fight or boss fight like in Lylatwars.
SHUCKLE MAN Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The Star Fox series has somewhat dwindled in quality lately. Lylat Wars was my favorite game ever made, and all I want is a game in the same fashion. Except with more levels, longer levels, more alternate routes, more characters, etc. If we don't get a game in the same manner as the earlier Star Fox games, I'd at least like some levels in the style of Katina/Sector Z/Bolse and Zoness/Area 6. I know what I want is probably not what everyone wants, and I can't see them making a game like that again, but Star Fox 64 was so incredibly awesome, I just want a game like it, but better, to play. The main thing I need in a Star Fox game though, is for Katt Monroe to be present (my avatar says it all ).
darkjak Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Star fox assault could have worked if namco didn't create it. It was a little too ambitious. But imagine a game like warhawk on the wii.arwing vs tank? CMON you know you want it! The flight scenes in Assault were brilliant as far as I've heard. I'd want Namco or EAD to do it. Or Treasure. What I want is that the difference between minimum and maximum altitude to be bigger than in previous starfox games. Also a greater sence of speed would be good. That's what I wanted from Lylat Wars, and I still want it now. But yeah, I've thought of a Warhawk beater based on Starfox. Thing is, I don't want any on foot scenes what so ever.
nekunando Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I'm fine with on-foot sections mixed into the on-rails combat in the Arwing! I would, however, love the sections where you are out of the cockpit to be down like Sin & Punsihment.. with the Analogue Stick controlling Fox and the Wii Remote to aim (obviously ) ..A could be used to Jump while B Fires.. with the Z-Button to roll out of the way..
Guest Maase Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!11111 Not On-Rails!!!
