Konfucius Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 A while ago I created a mouse pointer with the intention that one would always know exactly where the focus point is (yes I'm looking at you Mr. Hand to click links). So no matter what you do, select text, resize etc. the shape and focus point of the pointer will not change. Things like "busy" are colour encoded on the pointer or in other words instead of the blue light it will start blinking red. I shared this pointer with some of my friends and while I got a lot of positive responses I learned that everyone favoured a different text select pointer, therefore I included four version - that should satisfy every liking. Here's a picture; actual pointers are animated and not pixellated. Would be cool if you would give them a try and leave some feedback. To "install" them: Download the zip file and unzip it. Then go to the Control Panel --> Mouse --> Tab: Pointer and replace them by browsing to the directory you unzipped the files to.
Shorty Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I tested them out for ya, and they are indeed perfectly functionable, I can't think of many times when you have to be precise and are given a "hand" cursor (maybe flash games?) but I imagine if I was faced with such a situation I would find them useful Not the most attractive cursors in the world though, they look a bit like they're out of an MS DOS game.
Cube Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Work well and are a great idea. But perhaps the idea could be done with a more normal looking cursor (i.e. default colour of white with the tail).
Konfucius Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Thanks for trying them out and leaving some feedback guys I must admit some of the simple looks are due to my creative limitations, read lack of talent. I'm thinking about doing at white version of it though and maybe improve the look a bit. Especially because a friend asked about a white version. Thanks for the suggestion about the tail, Cube, but I actually prefer pointers without one - but you're right it could be done with that kind of pointer as well.
