Looking for an alternative to System Mech

I have System Mech as a computer housekeeping program, to clear my drives of clutter/remove spyware, etc. It has tons of features and it really is a good overall computer 'watchdog'. Problem is i can spend 6 hours running an internet clutter or junk file removal tool after not having ran one for a month - and then the day after run it again and get the same number of files removed in ONE day as were removed in one MONTH'S useage. And it still takes 6 hours to clear the one day's worth of clutter, same as it did to clear the one month's worth.

I don't trust System Mech after that... and it makes doing a junk removal scan seem futile anyway, if you're always going to end up with 5000 junk files no matter how often you do it....

My question is does anyone know of a good similar program to System Mech?

Not sure if all these features are in the free version but avg antivirus v 8.0 comes with a built in anti spyware and anti rootkit tool.Combine it with crap cleaner to fully protect your system. Avg free version only lacks the anti rootkit so its good enough.

none of AVG 8.0 is free (I think..)

I keep getting an alert to upgrade from my free edition, but it only has the pay option.

I'm afraid there is a free version

Product break down

Did know there wa a free version. Many thanks. :yay:

Funnily enough I think the other versions only have crap that will slow my system down without doing much good.

I don't need Spam Filter because I use Webmail, I don't need Secure Search because I have Firefox and a Script Blocker etc...

But to respond to the thread starter. I think the best way is to not get your system cluttered with junk in the first place and because most things will invade your system via the internet I suggest you do the following:

Get Firefox, get Ad-Block Plus and NoScript Add-on.

Then get Spybot and Spyware Blaster to immunize your system as well. That will prevent a lot of tracking cookies from entering your system.

Most importantly keep track of the services and programs that run at startup and disable any unneeded things.

Most of it is common sense to be honest. I haven't had a virus warning for years, and the last one I had was largely my own fault (warez keygen type stuff). If you stay away from dodgy porn sites and crack/keygen sites you'll generally be okay.

Guest Jordan

AVG8 is bull shit tbh.

The automatic updates do not work when they are supposed to. It'd be nice if it informed you if it went to look for updates and didn't find any.

Also, that link scanner is complete shit. It kills browser proformance! I can disable it, but then i get it going "zomg u disabled something!!!".
