Actually, CoD 3 was released for the Wii.

All games have to be downgraded to run on Wii graphics wise.

If you've actualy played the 4th one you should realise that it wouldnt just be the graphics that require a downgrade in order to run on the Wii. And COD 3 was shit anyway.

Nice work Cubus!

TBH, not bothered about FPS right now. I'd much rather see someone mix up the 1st person idea a bit more. Condemned is a perfect example of this and if the Wii could handle those graphics (which it cant) then it would be the perfect place for it.

But a good point has been made. From a 1st person perspective, graphics actuallly need to be pretty damn good for several reasons, one of the most important being shape recognition and aiming at high speed (in shoooters). But maybe a FPA in a different guise, or a 3rd person shooter ala Gears of War. But then everyone would complain that its not Gears wouldnt they? Damn gamers...

Deadline from Kando Games. Not much is known about it from the box and those four tiny screenshots.

*Drools untill nearly dying from dehydration*

That's friggin' amazing! Hope it'll turn out to play well, cuz the screens, albeit small, seem to look good. Looks like black, except that shotgun seems to be straight out of HL2!

@Noodle

What does that have to do with anything? CoD3 was a port of a PS3/360 game, wich a Wii version of CoD4 would be if it ever would be released.

If you think that CoD3 was crap doesent matter, it's the same game engine, with a few tweaks. Gameplaywise it would be fully possible to recreate Modern Warfare. In all probability the game would be more realistic (20 AH-1s in a close formation at low altitude above an urban are? FAT CHANCE).

Call of Duty 3 was also on PS2, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a port of that game, rather than a downgrade of the 360 version.

That Deadline looks like the weapons have been ripped from HL2, the grenade and shotgun look so alike.

Probably because the design of stuff in HL2 has been ripped from the big game. Real Life.

It's not just that, it's the fact that even the hands look the same, also the way they hold the weapon is the same. Don't tell me that's to do with real life as well, basically it's the graphical engine that makes the weapons look like that. Just look at other shooters, same weapon, doesn't look the same through the game engine though.

Yeah, thos pics arent displaying for some reason but i looked at them.

I agree that they look similar but tbh those weapons from HL2 are modelled on weapons from real life. I've seen shotguns and grenades that look very similar to those. To me what you are essentially saying is that because the basic design for the grenade is a cylinder with a catch on the top of it, means that its a HL2 rip or that because the shotgun has a slightly boxy look around the cocking slider then its ripped as well.

EDIT: OK now that I can see the pics on the same screen, it does actually look like they super-imposed the HL2 grenade hand on. Sorry....

A bit more info on Deadline

We posted some tiny screenshots of kando Games, Deadline for the Wii earlier today. Some more information has turned up on the project.

  • action/adventure title aiming for a film-like experience
  • main character is the head of a team of agents
  • story is full of twists and turns
  • title was originally for the PS2, but was cancelled in favor of a Wii version

I really would like to see a FPS built from the ground up for the Wii, not PSP or PS2 port with a couple of extra shimmers added here and there. A FPS conceptualised around the Wii itself.

Red Steel was interesting, and I enjoyed it, but it was rushed to launch and suffered flaws. Heroes 2 actually looks to use the Wii quite well controls wise, and I am interested in purchasing it (32 online, fantastic for first online FPS). But why must we rely on ports, even the mentioned game above got moved from PS2. I would like to see more than Red Steel 2 built from the beginning for Wii.

I want to see some outside the box thinking, and I think Wii can encourage this.

Screens look pretty good but any screenshot that size looks good.

Now I also know where I heard the name Kando before. They made Rebel Raiders.

I played that game on the PC and well it wasn't bad but nothing outstanding either - basically I played for one hour then I got bored and never touched it again...

At least you can tell from the screens the game has decent lighting and geometry (note the trees). The HL2 reminders kind of get me hoping for a Source Engine port to the Wii but that can't be expected... I don't really have much faith in this completely unknown developer though. Googling Deadline by Kando gives someone revealing that this game was originally a PS2 MGS2 clone in 2003. So much for a Deadline...

The Wii cannot handle Call Of Duty 4. Theres too much going on in the game, too many enemies, too many friendlies, too much gunfire, too many explosions. The Wii couldn't handle it all whilst pumping out a reasonable level of graphics.

Sure, you could hollow out the game to make it play on Wii but where would the point be? You'd be left with a completely different and massively inferior game!

As for the main question: PC, 360 and PS3 shooters won't work well on the Wii because of the limited hardware, limited online service and control scheme considerations. Wii shooters won't work well on PC, 360 or PS3 because they will be lacking compared to other games on these systems.

This leaves Wii exclusive First Person Shooters. Developers are, understandably, reluctant to develop these. There's no proven market and it's hard to get the control scheme right, a First Person Shooter on the Wii is a huge financial risk. Currently only the biggest publishers can afford the gamble, so it's down to Nintendo, Ubisoft and EA to show others how to get the controls right and to prove a market exists for Wii Shooters.

P.S. Sorry if this makes little sense, im a bit tired. Off to bed now, just wanted to finish that post.

You make some very good points. The 360 gets flooded with FPS's because it sells, there’s not much proof that FPS can sell in big numbers on the Wii. At the same time, there is this void of original FPS. Red Steel, the first original FPS sold over 1 million copies, certainly helped by the fact that it was a launch title.

But since then no original FPS? Surely someone must be making an original FPS beyond Red Steel 2. The very fact that there’s a lack of original FPS in the wake of million seller Red Steel, indicates a potential thirst.

Granted i believe Heroes 2 (though underfunded) needs the commercial success to match the critical success.

Remember CoD: Finest Hour on the Cube? Those consoles supposedly couldnt handle Call of Duty, so what did they do? They created a new technology that copypasted rendered enemies, and put them somewhere else like in a photoshopped photo. In the end they hade three times the ammount of characters the consoles technically could render.

I've played CoD 4, and gameplaywise it's fully possible to recreate those battles. But like I said, some of the most extremely unrealistic scenes can go, like when you're in a Blackhawk and escorted by tens of Cobra helicopters at low altitude above an urban target. If the UN would hear of such an opperation, Bush would truly be sentenced to the death penalty.
