killer kirby
Yeah thats....bad for 360, no offense but their biggest game was Halo 3 and sales on the hardware look like that 360 only just beat the Wii and DS
Dyson
Remember it's been out for much much longer. It'll already have a large playerbase.
Ren of Heavens
Shame about Metroid Prime 3. Will probably do better than MP2 overall, but not close to MP1. Such a shame that "cheap" games like Mario Party 8 and Wii Play sells multiple times more than Retro's quality effort. I fear we won't see a new Metroid in a long time. ShadowV7
Why is Wii Play still doing so well? And I was so sure MP3 was gonna get over 250k. Ah well, hopefully by end of the year it will have over 1 mil sold, hoe the christmas rush helps it. Dunno how Nintendo can say it exceded expectations though... It's selling at a faster rate then Metroid Prime 2, and I think has exceeded 500k in America now. It's done okay, it'll probably reach 1 million after it's European launch and Christmas. dannbrownn
So let me get this right... Even when the eintire world was looking at the xbox 360 wii sales still rose and the 360 only just outsold it! When you are dealing with huge numbers like this an extra 26,000 units is nothing! I might have done the maths wrond but isn't 26,000 units only a 5.2% lead over the wii? Japan will cancel out that sort of a gap within two weeks! I am very surprised at three things here, the gap is so small, the wii sales were unnaffected and the ps3 was up to it's usual trick of being hammered by the ps2! Zelda_Rulez
Wow at the Wii almost managing to outsell the X360 in this month. Metroid Prime 3 is still doing well I hope it's still in the charts next month.
Zechs Merquise
Well, what a month. Over half a million Wiis sold and only 26,000 behind the 360 even with the release of Halo 3 and the whole world's eyes on it. Very good indeed. I bet if sales of Wii Play keep up it'll be the biggest selling game of the year. And the Prime sales have been good too. The PS3 now being outsold by the Wii and 360 at a factor of over 4 to 1. If it keeps going like this the PS3 will be a dead duck in 6 months to a year.
khilafah
Wii software sales are worrying if you ask me. Looking at the numbers it makes you wonder who is really buying Wii consoles. It is the same in Japan also but even there Wii Hardware has slowed down. I think though it is more down to lack of real quality software.
Patch
Wii software sales are worrying if you ask me. Looking at the numbers it makes you wonder who is really buying Wii consoles. Doo doo doo doo (Twilight Zone music plays) I suppose a lot of people are buying a Wii for Wii Sports and are hardly buying anything else. It's a good point actually - does the Wii stand up as a non-games machine? Are lots of people buying it to see the weather and news every morning? Teppo Holmqvist
Wii software sales are worrying if you ask me. Not really. There is few facts that people are forgotting when they look at that chart: 1) Wii has sold around 13 million units worldwide, with only 5 million being in USA. 2) Unlike Gamecube, these sales have distributed pretty equally between different regions. For comparision, when Metroid Prime 2: Echoes launched in USA, Cube's installed userbase was around 9.5 million units (ballpark estimation) 3) Still, even though Wii's installed userbase is way smaller than Cube's, Corruption is selling faster than Echoes. 4) Comparing Xbox 360 / Wii sales in the USA isn't realistic, because Xbox 360 has userbase around 7.5 million, which means 34 percent difference in potential customers. In fact, if we take this difference into equation, Metroid Prime 3 has sold pretty much same rate as Bioshock (which is currently at 656 000 units). And difference between X360 / Wii Madden sales had been far more narrower. 5) Metroid has never been that hot property. First Prime game was only one in the series to sell over million in USA. Say that Wii doesn't have hardcore audience is unlogical, because Legend of Zelda: TP has sold over 2 million copies on Wii alone in the USA. Not to mention Super Paper Mario that has sold over million. 6) People who haven't followed sales for long time don't seem to comprehend that million sellers are actually quite rare in this business. For example, everybody knows God of War for PS2? Right? That incredible hardcore title that was extremely well marketed to the installed userbase of 120 million PS2's. And did you know how much it did sell worldwide? 1.5 million copies (rough estimation). Or what about Devil May Cry 3? 1.6 million copies. And so on. system_error
As in Japan the Wii sells a lot of consoles but games are left behind. Where are the games in US/EU/JAP on the Wii which sell really well except WiiPlay (basicly controller + free game).
Teppo Holmqvist
Where are the games in US/EU/JAP on the Wii which sell really well except WiiPlay (basicly controller + free game). Well, in Japan, situation is pretty much in lull, but Galaxy / Wii Fit will fix that. Plus latest Dragon Ball Z game generated decent sales when you remember that Wii doesn't have that big userbase. Not to mention that traditionally PS2 pulled pretty similar numbers in late September / October* as Wii does now. Furthermore, it is theorized that perhaps time of traditional consoles is really over at Japan, because every homeconsole is lagging badly. DS / PSP are the ones that drive sales. In UK PAL charts, there are 10 Wii titles in the TOP-40, with Paper Mario, Tiger Woods, FIFA and MySims being in TOP-20. MySims is in the TOP-10. Wii is overall performing better in UK / Europe than X360. * Slowest sales period in Japan And about software sales. Here is few numbers that we know: - Zelda TP has sold over 3.5 million on Wii - Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition has sold over 750 000 copies according to Capcom - Trauma Center has sold over 400 000 copies, making it Atlus USA's biggest game ever. - Eledees sold around 250 000 copies - First Madden sold over 400 000 copies, and that was on the launch. Second one didn't sell that well due control bugs, buggy online, and lack of career modes. - Mario Party 8 has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. - Dragon Quest: Swords has sold over 450 000 copies, which is pretty similar to any DQ spin-off. - Super Paper Mario has sold over million - Red Steel has sold over million - Rayman Raving Rabbids has sold over million - Cooking Mama has sold over 300 000 on UK alone - Mario Strikers Charged pulled over 500 000 units worldwide - WarioWare has sold over 1.5 million. - MySims, no sales numbers but it has been hanging on UK's TOP-10 for weeks. - Big Brain Academy, over 400 000 Considering that most Wii's current software lineup is shovelware, it is no wonder that there isn't so many titles on TOP-40. But all of these games have been considered successes by their respective publishers.

Considering that most Wii's current software lineup is shovelware, I agree with you and that is the problem I want to point out. The list now is much shorter, when you cross out first party games or launch titles (which normally sell better than they are because game variety is limited).
