Cube Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Radiohead have released their latest album. I've yet to listen it (currently downloading), buy you can get it from http://www.inrainbows.com The best thing is: You chose the price you pay. Whether it's nothing or £7 or even £20,000,000 - It's up to you.
conzer16 Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 was posted in the music thread already but I suppose more people might catch it this way.
mcj metroid Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 huh? What kind of idea is that i don't get it.
conzer16 Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 As far as i understand it the minimum chrge is 40 of your Sterling pence. You can't pay nothing for it and get it for free from their website.
Charlie Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 huh? What kind of idea is that i don't get it. Basically, Radiohead's contract with their record label finished after their last album so they're currently unsigned. So they've taken it upon themselves to record the album themselves and sell it themselves via that website. They let people choose how much they want to pay, because virtually anything is more than the record label would've given them. It's a great idea and they've got a lot of free publicity in the media because of it. My marketting lecturer never stops going on about it.
gmac Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I got it for free through the website, accepted me putting in 0 and never asked for card details. If I like it I may buy the CD when it's released as I do prefer having CDs to downloads
thirtynine. Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 If it wasnt shit, after i had got it for free i would have payed, however i may just give them money for doing something so damn cool
Paj! Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I often download stuff i'm unsure I'll like, so this is no different. I tried the other week, but the site has buggy. Downloading now.
Wesley Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I paid 40 quid for the disk box. I like Radiohead. Wait, I LOVE Radiohead.
Mr_Odwin Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I think this is a great move for the industry. Trent Reznor of NIN has spoken about something similar in the past and Radiohead seem to have started the ball rolling. The thing is that they won't lose money, it's just that the Record Companies don't get their slice of the pie. Only bad thing is the bitrate (mp3 cbr 160kbps - they say they were aiming for a little better than iTunes). If they'd have offered lossless as an option it would have been amazing.
Ten10 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I put it £00.00 just so I can try it out. If I love it I'll go back and pay a bit for it.
Gizmo Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 The only disappointing thing is that this is only half the album. When it comes out in disc theres gonig to be something like 10 other tracks.
Haden Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Basically, Radiohead's contract with their record label finished after their last album so they're currently unsigned. Sadly virtually anything doesnt take into account sickos like me who put 0 00 in
ipaul Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I bought it for a pound and ever since I've bought it it has continued to grow on me . I will probably buy the discbox at some point when I can be bothered to scrape £40 together. Favourite songs so far are probably 15 step (awesome, awesome bass in my opinion) and House of Cards. As for the '2nd half' of the album that isn't out yet, isnt that just more of a bonus disc than a different part to the album?
Roostophe Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I haven't heard it yet. I've downloaded it, but not listened to it.
McMad Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I payed a tenner for it last week, it's... good but not great.
Wesley Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 The bonus disc isn't the second half of the album. But it is material that wasn't used for the album. Songs that I guess they can get out the way. Like Up on the Ladder which has been floating around (at least) since 2003.
Strider Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Lets say it's a good thing i got it for free. It's pretty boring.
Wesley Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 How can any music be boring? Music is an art form, not a form of entertainment. In my opinion.
thirtynine. Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Art can be boring. Very easily. If it dosent push boundary's, dosent excite you, or its just not your kind of art.
*Dalco* Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 didn't like it on first listen but i;m liking it now not loving it but liking it. was just expecting more after waiting 4 years, nether less its a good album
Gizmo Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 The bonus disc isn't the second half of the album. But it is material that wasn't used for the album. Songs that I guess they can get out the way. Like Up on the Ladder which has been floating around (at least) since 2003. Yeah, I know. Still, extra songs are extra songs. 1. "MK 1" 2. "Down Is the New Up" 3. "Go Slowly" 4. "MK 2" 5. "Last Flowers" 6. "Up on the Ladder" 7. "Bangers and Mash" 8. "4 Minute Warning" According to Ed O'Brien's on-line diary from the Kid A/Amnesiac recording sessions, "Up on the Ladder" is a song that has existed in some form since 1999
Wesley Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Oh hell yeah, I'm getting the disc box too, I can't wait for the extra songs. And wow, it's been around for ages. I knew it was from at least 2003 because they played it on their pre-HTTT tour.
