dannbrownn
Literally! lol right then, firstly sorry about the awful picture quality! Secondly, comparisons like this make the wii's size even more remarkable, especially when you think of the size of the 360 that the hd dvd drive plugs into! That leads nicely to my main point... Add ons to the wii... a Hard drive for example... would not cause any great issue with regards to design or space surely, i have seen a few people say that having an external device attached would be awful and throw away the sleek look and design of the wii, but when you have such a sleek and miniture console surely it would be to bad, they could even build it into a new stand or something! Anyway, to give this more discussion value i propose these ideas... Do you think external add ons would be good/bad or just not make a difference. Is there anything else other than a hard drive that you would like to see added to the wii?
Retro_Link
A Nintendo hard drive, HD DVD player etc... in exactly the same size, shape and finish as the Wii standing along side the console would look great!

AGREED! That would be awesome. A nice twin Wii set complete with it's own stand.
Cookyman
What about a little flash drive that plugs into the back of the wii - you wouldn't see it then! 2 to 4 gb would be sufficient - the internal memory holds loads so they wouldn't need a ,massive drive, plus would be relatively cheap too - well thats my opinion anyway! : peace:

I think Nintendo has to start addressing the problem of memory soon.

I agree a hard drive of the same shape, maybe the same size or possibly smaller would be nice. They my have to use a smaller laptop sized HDD for this though, as a standard sized HDD is almost the same size as the Wii. I don't think the Wii has the power to play HD DVD's to be honest. I've recently built a Media Centre PC, and the general concesus is to get as powerful a processor as possible. Or a Graphics card with .264 decoding. Decoding .264 is very processor intensive and is the standard some HD-DVD use. I brought a Dual Core Athlon 4200+ (2.2 GHz) and when playing a HD-DVD it sits at about 60% CPU usage. Usually when it comes to the Wii I normally sit in the "Wii can do better than people think" camp, but for the HD-DVD I don't think it can handle it. Frankly, Kaplans a genious. Didn't think of downloading your loved games only to delete them when there's new ones out and if you want to play that love game, redownload it again. I can't believe I never thought of it sooner to be honest. GO NINTENDO

How about an on board processor and such components to help the console? I haven't checked if the Wii has a hi-speed port, but both the N64 and GC had them, allthough neither were used in Europe... Personally, though I don't think there's going to be too many games with the need of it this generation. I think that in case it would happen, Nintendo would see which of the formats (Blu Ray, HD-DVD) will come out on top, and release a player when the technology becomes cheap enough. Personally I'm hoping for USB-harddrive compatibility for the console.

The Game Boy Player (released here before the US) used it, right? Anyway, the Wii doesn't have a special port like the GC and N64. Just USB ports. The first of the others was from the off designed for the modem (why did they even bother, it was only ever used for PSO, and LAN for Mariokart and 1080), the other was eventually used for the GBA player. The high speed port was rumored to be for everything from DVD-players to expansion packs (similar to the N64 Ram memory expansion pack).
tapedeck
With Perrin Kaplans recent refrigerator comments, I really don't think we will see a solution in the near future. And coupled with the fact that Wii is still outselling Wispas (Honest!!) I really don't think Nintendo will add bits and pieces of hardware (yet). I do however think that we will see some sort of Wii-box enabling users to store VC games on it. This will, again probably only work with an initially selected console. But definately, in the future I think we will see a means to save our games more efficiently. Remember, Nintendo have an extremely strict policy over piracy and their ip's. I really think that this whole debate hangs on both the sales of the Wii alongside the sales of the Virtual Console.
