Mikey
I've been thinking for a while about how you could replicate the PC controls on the Wii, with just the nunchuk, and wiimote, and I came up with this idea.. Basically, when you use a mouse for playing fps, you only have enough mouse mat before you have to lift the mouse off the mat, and put it back in the center to keep looking around. I was trying to think about how you could get around this with the wiimote. Seeing as the wiimote has no mat, obviously, and how it floats in the air, it can't be done exactly the same as you would run out of screen to be able to keep looking. Well with the Wii having no mouse mat, how about to look in fps games, you have to hold down the Z button on the nunchuk to be able to look? This way when you run out of screen/wiisensor bar, you can just release the Z button, center the wiimote on the screen, and just press Z again when you want to look. This would be an instant get around of the problem, and would enable players to use the analog stick on the nunchuck for movement, and use the wiimote for looking. I don't know if this idea has already been done, or if can technically even be done. Anyway, what are your opinions?
...
What was wrong with the other thread about this? I had posted an idea on the other one that concerned this very issue, although my idea is different than yours. Anyway, to comment on yours, I don't think it would work. Think about it, like that you would have to keep Z pressed for essentially the whole play time. But what if we invert your idea? So that pressing Z deactivates looking instead of activating it. Like that you press Z when you run out of screen, instead of releasing. Just a thought. But be sure to check the other thread, as it has many other ideas. The ideal would be for a moderator to put this post in that thread.
Patch
That's a neat idea and I'm sure it would be achievable. There are a couple of problems though. a) Not very intuitive. Though it may simply be a case of getting used to it (Metroid Prime's controls sound positively awful on paper). b) I assume that if you're not holding down the 'Z' button, you're simply moving a crosshair around the screen with no view movement. In which case, imagine an enemy is circling you. You'd have to hold the Z button down and flick the remote a bit until you find him, then let go of the Z button and move the crosshair on top of him and then shoot. By the time you've done this, he's probably moved out of your field of vision, so you'll have to hold down Z and move your view again and so on...quite cumbersome. I love these discussions though, because it just feels as though there *should* be a great control scheme that no-one has thought of yet. There probably isn't though/ :-(

Whatever though. I also thought about the whole pressing it to disable it too, could maybe make it an option? That's a neat idea and I'm sure it would be achievable. Patch
How does Metroid Corruption even control? Ah, sorry, I meant Metroid Prime 1. With the whole 'You can't move and look independantly' thing. Metroid Prime Corruption, as far as I'm aware, uses the most common of the FPS control schemes - the bounding box, with a lock-on option thrown in. Thinking about my Point b) above, maybe that is something you would grow used to. What I wouldn't give for a dev kit and a team of programmers under my guidance. Mikey
I just finished Prime 2 yesterday, and did Prime 1 twice a while back. I really hated how you couldn't free look. If in Corruption it's automatic like in the previous Primes, I'm gonna be a bit disappointed.
