It attempts to answer the question, "What percentage of all hardware owners have purchased a game this year?" For example, every person who owns a DS has, on average, purchased one game this year (a ratio of 1.01). Conversely, only 25% of all PS2 owners have purchased a game for that system so far this year, which reflects where these two platforms are in their respective lifespans: DS is becoming a mature system but by all measures dominates software sales, while PS2 is nearing the end of its life so fewer and fewer consumers are searching out new PS2 games. The hot property at the moment is Wii, with the average Wii owner seeking out 1.57 games. That an enthusiastic userbase. Newer systems have an easier time achieving these high ratios since owners are most interested and few have had the time or inclination to move on to some competing product. PS3 on the other hand shows a disturbing lack of interest among users, perhaps because many early PS3 adopters see the system as a Blu-Ray player first. jammy2211
There's no way the DS has sold 19 million in that time period, I'm guessing the hardware sales are different? *shrug* Looks good to me, hopefully Wii kicks arse in Japan as I want every JRPG under the sun :P. Goron_3
DS has sold 19million in 8 months? That can't be right...surely that's lifetime sales, not sales between Jan-August? Also, WOW at Nintendo's sales as a Publisher! If only they made some more decent games...
Slaggis
DS has sold 19million in 8 months? That can't be right...surely that's lifetime sales, not sales between Jan-August? Also, WOW at Nintendo's sales as a Publisher! If only they made some more decent games... It's how much software has sold on the system since january, not figures for actual hardware, so it sounds about right, considering the success of the brain training games there etc. Or am I being a bit thick? ShadowV7
Wow pretty cool sales there. If only there was more 'real' games on the Wii to lead the sales instead of Mario Party 8 and WiiSports and Play. If they just bundled WiiSports with the console then more software would be sold. Patch
Very interesting stats, but just to be really pedantic, this bit isn't quite true: Conversely, only 25% of all PS2 owners have purchased a game for that system so far this year According to the previous paragraph, it actually means that on average, each PS2 owner has bought 0.25 games. Slightly different. Yep, I'm that bored.
Zechs Merquise
Wow, awesome stuff there. I can't believe the PS3 hasn't even sold a million units over there. It's so good fr Nintendo. As SONY hasn't mad e a bean as a publisher, and loses money on every PS3 sold, what are they actually in the game for lol
jammy2211
Ps3 has sold over a million, the sales in the data are from 2007, and PS3 gained some sales in 2006.
