soag
Hi i've been having a prob with my gf's laptop for months now and everytime we think it's gone it raises its ugly head again a few weeks later. Pretty much it keeps on opening firefox, internet explorer or whatever internet browser we are using at the time. So i'd be on say this site and about 45 windows will all of a sudden open up and keep on opening everytime you try to close one more open. It's doing our heads in . We have tried wiping the laptop and reinstalling xp but that did not help it just came back. We dont have limewire or any downloading software like that on this. I'm starting to think its a hardware problem but i know nothing about computers. So help us pretty pretty please with bells on top.
Jasper
It's not a hardware problem (hardware doesn't do something that vvisual, usual it just stops working once it breaks).
Emasher
So does it look something like this? or does it just open the program a whole bunch of times/open a bunch of new windows?
Jasper
That's mac and it's disorienting me. Is that that screensaver? Or did that actually happen on this mac? Man that's looks disturbing. Not because it's mac, but the way these windows function - it disturbs my mind.
Emasher
If you look in the developer package that was on the instal disk for tiger you will find a little application called pixie that is supposed to magnify a portion of your screen to show you individual pixels. however if you put the magnification to 100% instead of 1200% ect. and put the cursor over the pixie window you will get an effect that looks like that common windows glitch. soag
So does it look something like this? or does it just open the program a whole bunch of times/open a bunch of new windows? I cant see nothing in your post lol, it just keeps on opening a whole new bunch of windows, which usually results in me screaming at the laptop. It's doing our heads in we have tried everything we can think of to try and stop it but it only goes away for a while then comes back with a vengence. Jasper
So... did you perhaps bring it back to your computer store? Maybe they can resolve the problem? And have you tried a clean install of Windows? With deletion of all your files? Since a non-clean install will, off course, not work.
thirtynine.
virus raped bios?
Jasper
Is that even possible? And if that were true, it wouldn't do that with only internet windows. It would do it with every rendered item, because the BIOS has nothing to do with the graphical identification of a window, it just sees every element as an element. If you see what I mean? It's like the BIOS can only see 2D while the OS can see 3D, making the BIOS inable to do anything in 3D (or: the BIOS only sees code, and the OS sees this as graphics). I'm complicating the matter and not helping. But surely, bringing it back would be a good choice. let it be repared by someone who knows what the hell is wrong. Sanchez
How do we know this is the graphical multi window glitch? From his description it sounds to me like he's opening many browser instances.
Mr_Odwin
I wonder if it is something targeting Firefox/IE that you keep getting infected with. What happens if you use an alternative browser not based on either of the above, like ... er ... Safari. http://www.apple.com/safari/

From his description it sounds to me like he's opening many browser instances. I said it wasn't my first post was trying to find out if it was or not because he wasn't very clear. I don't see anyway this could be hardware related, do you know anyone who "knows his computers".
Sanchez
Thoughts: There's something wrong with your keyboard (maybe a stuck down key) thats causing multiple instances. That's the only logical thing that occurs to me.
Emasher
Is there a single key that will open a new window (I'm not familiar with windows keyboard short cuts)?

That's the only logical thing that occurs to me. Thats what i thought of first but the only key that was kinda stuck down was the r key, i fixed that but still no luck. My best mate is quite pc smart and has built many a pc for people and is a web designer, he has tried on several occaisians to fix this but never with any luck. Its odd sometimes its fine for a few weeks then all of a sudden whatever browser your using opens a new window over and over again. I'll try that other browser as suggested.
