daftada
I've just benchmarked my laptop after reformatting and updating drivers etc. and noticed my Internal clock speed is listed as 800Mhz which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't an Athlon 3000+ (64bit). Have I missed something or is there a problem with my laptop? I seem to remember Star Wars Galaxies used to come up with an error message about my processor not matching minimum spec or something. It's a little ancient now (bout 3 years I think) but is there anything I can do to boost my performance? Thanks in advance!
Guest Jordan
Right, basically the Athlon 64 has a technology called "Cool 'n quiet". To be able to achieve this, when your CPU is idle, it downclocks itself to 800mhz. If this is a bother, go into your BIOS and turn this option off. However, it can significantly increase battery life, the only problem is, sometimes the processor forgets to go back to normal speed sometimes. McPhee
I got a shock the first time i benchmarked this comp too! Overclock to 2.5GHz yet it was running at 800MHz???? Just run Super-Pi and benchmark it. Calculating Pi to 10 Million decimal places tends to switch Cool 'n Quiet off
daftada
Thanks guys! Is there any software that lets you switch it on or off on the fly or is it a BIOS only job?
McPhee
You don't really need to switch it off, it's switched off automatically when you need the power
