Noku
Greetings y'all! As some of you miight have heard, the sequel to The Best Sandbox Game Of All Time, Mafia, was shown at Leipzig recently. Now, I'm beginning to wonder how Illusion Softworks' stance towards Nintendo's Wii is. Seeing as so many projects get moved/copied to this gen's sales monster, how would you estimate the possibilities of seeing Mafia II on Wii? Guest Jordan
Hhahaha... Yeah, because they'de really go out of their way to make a hugely advanced graphics engine and then downscale it for the Wii. I'm not being mean or a shit head, i just think its completely unreasonable to even think that!

I'm not being mean or a shit head, i just think its completely unreasonable to even think that! Way ahead of you dude But seeing as the Wii has a larger and broader demographic than the PS3, wouldn't it be mere logic to release the game on the leading console, as it would guarantee them more income? Surely the effort and cost of downscaling the game to the Wii would be more than compensated by the surplus in profit when compared to the PS3 version. Isn't RAGE considered to be a hugely advanced graphics engine?

Guest Jordan
Isn't RAGE considered to be a hugely advanced graphics engine? Afaik, RAGE was always built with scalability in mind. Trust me, i love my Wii, if i had something to play on it, I would. Its just, i could never see Mafia II, sequal to one of the best PC titles in recent years ever ported to the Wii. system_error
Will Mafia 2 be on the Wii? Magic 8 Ball: "Very doubtful" So there you have your answer. The Wii sells excellent but the demographic also shows that the 360 and PS3 user base is much more in the target range of a adult mafia action game. As long as publishers make money with the Wii without wasting much resources they will spend it on big games for 360 and PS3. PS: Mafia is still one of the best games I have ever played! OK....am I thinking of a totally different game? I thought Mafia had a top-down view, and a one-screen town?

Teppo Holmqvist
[friendly poke]There are other genres than 'the strategy for men ' genre, you know [/friendly poke] Yeah, I know. And I do play lots of games. But I wasn't never really that fond of Mafia. The game had relatively good writing, but otherwise execution was lacking, IMO, of course. And console ports were pretty horrible.

Ye're right about the console ports part, I'll give you that Sure, the game had some glitches, but the production values were amazing (Django Reinhardt, great score, awesome voice-acting), and the graphics were cleaner and crisper than that other free roam game, GTA. The game had relatively good writing, but otherwise execution was lacking, IMO, of course. And console ports were pretty horrible. I recently revisited mafia, and I think I'm with you Teppo. It's not a bad game, but I feel it has been surpassed by the GTA's and Godfather. I think my main gripe with it was that driving around just didnt seem like fun, most of the time it felt easier to have the speed limiter on. Which ment traveling across the map became a chore and took some time. And the fact that there wern't really any breaks between missions to do what you wanted. I'd be more interested in Godfather 2 TBH, as that has a much better chance of comming to the Wii. And the first one was heaps of fun.
Noku
I'd have an original story over a film-tie-in any day The GTA III's were fun (III was sweet, Vice City was still cool, but San Andreas was waaaaaaaaaay to hip-hoppedy to my tastings) and The Godfather felt like a rip-off from the beginning. I mean, damn! Mafia had better graphics than that ffs! Didn't play it on the Wii yet though, but feeling hesitant to do so, as I hated the way they did the voice acting on the pc version... Zechs Merquise
I'm not sure whether this will get ported, but as we've already heard there are many games developers being tempted over to Wii and many projects for the PS3 are being quietly canned as support is shifted to Wii. After all, with development costs sky high, a tiny installed user base (just one sixth of the total market of next gen systems), and many of the hyoed titles falling flat on their faces, would you want to the dubious 'honour' of developing a PS3 exclusive? dannbrownn
However unreasonable it may or may not be to scale it down, i understand your point about the potential market sizes in relation to the differen consoles sales, who knows, if he money is not to be made with the big boys then perhaps they will be tempted to release it on the best console as well! lol
