Daft
I'm a bit clueless about this stuff so help would be much appreciated. Where is the best place to register a website address? What difference does it make who I get it from? Thanks a lot!
Charlie
Depends on if you're getting a .co.uk/com etc. If it's a .co.uk I would go with http://www.123-reg.co.uk, I haven't found anywhere cheaper than them. If it's an American TLD I would either use http://www.registerfly.com or http://www.godaddy.com. Both are good and let you do whatever you want with your domain once you've got it. Do you have webspace already or do you need that too? If you don't I would recommend going with http://www.k1z.com, I think they'll give you a free domain name too, but I'm not sure. Daft
Wow, thats a big help. I want to register a .org if that makes any differance. That k1z website looks pretty good.
Sanchez
http://www.telivo.com does .org's for 2 years for 15 pounds. I've got a few domains with them, they're good.
Emasher
Try Host Excellence. You buy packages with them. the most basic package is about 5$ american/month and comes with 1 Domain (your choice of extention (or whatever its called) (you can choose all the major ones) 20 subdomains 1000 email addresses with your domain name on them and I think you get 30 gigabytes of web space. I don't know what server technologies they support.
Daft
Host Excellence looks pretty good but I just want to register a place, I won't be able to do anything with it for a while. I think I'll use Telivo because I've already registered with them and they sound pretty solid.
Twozzok
Also, don't go with godaddy, I know a lot of people have had problems with them when wanting to transfer their domains onto another nameserver (i think is the right terminology) On the subject of hosts. I highly reccomend HytekHosting. Fucking amazing service, no unscheduled downtime. Warnings when they'll be doing maintence/upgrades that will affect service. Longest time it's taken to respond to a support ticket? 3 hours. They're also overly cheap. http://www.hytekhosting.com
