Charlie
Apple's UK iTunes store is now offering television shows to customers. Individual episodes are available for £1.89 per episode and offer television shows from ABC, Disney Channel, Nikelodeon, MTV, Paramound Comedy and Playhouse Disney. Mr_Odwin
That is a rip-off, plain and simple. They should be somewhere in the range 50p->£1. As it is. they kinda loosely fall in line with dvd boxset prices (also a rip-off until they fall in price), but you're getting an inferior product. Guest Jordan
Aren't they lower res then upscaled?
Mr_Odwin
I believe the videos are 640x480 encoded with 1.5Mb h264 video (Good Quality) and 128k AAC audio (Good enough for TV episodes). It would generally be inferior to DVD quality.
motion
It's not that huge a rip-off. £1.50 would have been better but it's fine.
Mr_Odwin
It's a rip-off when the alternative is to buy the dvd boxset, rip the episodes yourself and make better versions of what they are selling. In this scenario you have the dvd boxset (with all the extras), that you can also convert to anything else you want and not be tied to iTunes, iPods or Quicktime. And the US gets it cheaper than we do. $1.99 != £1.
Guest Jordan
So these are very much DRM'd? Hmmph, that just makes it even less attractive of a purchase in comparison to buying a boxset.
Slaggis
And the US gets it cheaper than we do. $1.99 != £1.89 They get everything cheaper, it's a toal rip off. Screw this, I'll pass on buying any.
motion
Not saying I'll be buying any, I doubt most people who know how to rip dvds would. Guess they're for the more casual type of market.
Mr_Odwin
It's unfortunate that the casual end of the market will probably buy some and then be like "How do I burn these to DVD, like iTunes lets me burn its songs to CD?" And then they'll learn that they can't and it'll be sad for everyone.
thirtynine.
I can watch bad quality tv episodes on the net, or i can buy slightly better ones for rip of prices, OR even better i can record TV myself! For free! Apple messed up on this.
Emasher
Do you have feature movies yet in the UK. In Canada we don't have TV shows or movies yet.
Ashley
Hmm looking through the list That 70s Show is the only one on there I may consider because I have no other means of seeing it, but its season one and Im not too fond of that season. Shorty
The price is ridiculous. I can just get my TV in otherways and convert it to .mp4.
dannbrownn
it is indeed a shame that prices are not lower considering there are no shipping/transport, packaging or even physical disk costs to cover, and still they are only in line with dvd prices, very strange, but it is good to see us moving closer to a digital world all the same! Emasher
Can you get a show called Corner Gas? I wouldn't expect it to be available outside of Canada but I'd like to know.

Cube
Well....a total of no good shows. I didn't read "Paramount Comedy" properly, and was expecting Star Trek to appear. Ah well.
KKOB
Least it's a start, i mean america have had downloadable shows and movies for a loooooong ass time. So hopefully, it'll be successful enough for more people to add content to it.
Sanchez
Bullshit, this legal downloading shit is never going to work unless they take all DRM off, offer at DVD quality (how about some nice h264 anamorphic rips?) and make the price at least 20% less than retail. At least then we'd be getting a good deal
Ramar
I think its ok used in moderation. I may buy like a few episodes of South Park, because it would save me the time ripping them and buying the DVD. £1.89 isn't exactly a lot of money when used once in a while. I think the service is good for what its aimed for. If you want good quality and cheap price, go get a dvd from play or another website. If you want to get an episode quick to watch on a journey this service would suffice.

Ramar
So how long have you enjoyed being assraped? How long you had a narrow minded view? I can't see whats wrong with the concept when you know how it works. If you want to download a tv series you'd be pretty stupid to waste £26 and get it off iTunes. If you want an episode to watch while going somewhere on the train, its a quick, not too expensive way to get hold of a legal episode compatible with iPods.
