I came home the other day to find that my brother had turned my computer off and being the bastard that he is he did it by just holding down the power button. When I restart the computer everything seems fine, however once it's all loaded up I notice that something is not quite right...

My taskbar has the start menu button button, but that's it, everything else is missing!

Anybody experienced anything similar aad know of a way to fix it?

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. You just pick a date that a restore point was created on and it takes you back there. You won't lose any saved files but any drivers installed since that date may be uninstalled. I'm not guaranteeing it'll work or anything since I've never seen this before. Repairing windows as said below might work though.

I have rebooted many a time but that doesn't do anything!

How do system restores work, I've never actually done one.

Boot off your windows vista disk and choose the reapir windows option. It doesn't affect your files or anything and might work.

System restore just reverts the pc back to a state it was in a few days or weeks back. It keeps your personal files and things, so don't worry about that.

Have you looked under the couch? I've lost lots of things only to find them months later under the couch.

That was the first place I looked, followed by the dogs basket, alas it wasn't to be found in either location.

I shall try this system restore jiggery after the footballs finished (don't wanna risk not being able to reconnect)!
