Dragon Quest IV, V, VI: The Zenithia Trilogy

Recommended Posts

Amazon have lowered the price to around £27 now.

Good thing I put a pre-order on it when it first got listed at £33, my order for it is at £24 something.

Whats the best deal for DQ VI? I'm not paying £28-£30. :heh:

Looks like ShopTo £24.85.

GAME is processing mine, was hoping it would ship today, but I guess not.

Despite once considering myself a Dragon Quest fanatic, even I'm surprised that I don't have this on pre-order.

It's come at a pretty inconvenient time for me. I'm trying to cut down on games, especially addictive ones that keep me up late at night. Then I'm fighting Orgodemir in DQIX, and I'm even more interested in the downloadable Quest on Friday than I am DQVI.

Then again, I clicked that ShopTo link, and it's got a little video. Hard to resist...

My copy just arrived from Amazon. I assume every one who ordered from ShopTo got there's yesterday, but hurrah it's finally arrived!

Got mine yesterday, got a few hours in.

Completed the trial to become a Knight of Somnia, joined up with carver and got a horse (Peggy Sue) for the wagon.

I though the scene with the Elf was rather amusing.

He wants you to build a shed, Carver refuses to help at first but ends up doing everything.

Currently searching for All-Trades abbey.

Progress update:

Finally made it so I'm solid in the Phantom World and Milly joined my team. Found some Metal Slimes, but they didn't seem to give out as much EXP as I expected, killed them without gaining a level up.

There's a casino at Port Haven, so I decided to play there for a while, ended up winning 30 000 tokens so I bought 2x Dragon Shields, 2x Platinum Mail and a Kamikaze Bracelet as well a Yddrassil Leaf. The armour is a lot better than anything currently available at the shops.

Oh yeah, also found a reference to DQV which was cool.

I see the game got #8 in the DS charts this week :) (Source

Great story in

Amor

, though I think I may progressed the story too early and have accidentally missed something.

Also recruited

Ashlynn.

The game seems to like adding new party members but you can't actually control or use them for a while.

Just found out I completely skipped an optional member somewhere down the line..

Curse my desire to be an asshole to characters. Ah well, second play through down the line was inevitable any way. Daaaamn good game!

Really enjoying DQVI's story.

Just beat Murdaw. Yay! Wait, that was quick

I guess it's time to search for the Prince, who is actually the hero in the real world so it turns out what I though was the Real World is actually the dream World

Anyway. Made it to All-Trades and made my

Hero a Warrior, Carver a Martial Artist, Nevan a Mage ,Milly a Priest and Ashlynn a Thief.

Ashlynn is the strongest Magic character out of the lot, you should make her a Mage or Priest...seriously.

Oh, really? She didn't seem like a mage user. Admittedly she didn't really get much use before the game booted her for Nevan. I'll change her to a mage then.

I would have been using her from the get go if it was not for the annoying fact that she lvls up very slowly.

I noticed on Amazon that DQ VI had dropped to £25 last week and I now see Game have followed suit. Should I order or wait for the price to come down a bit more?

I did see it priced at £22.97 in ASDA when I was there on Saturday. Should have picked it up really.

£23 at ASDA is a good price, the game might drop to £15 like IV and V did depending on how well this one is selling. Can't think of any good reason not to buy it now though, great game.

DQ VI is mine. I started into it last night...

...and died four or five times in the opening bit, before getting the crown...

Then died again... and again in Gardsbane Tower and thats where I left it.

I take it that its just me but does it seem to take fractionally longer to transition into battle than in IV and V? Yes, I've battle text speed set to 1. :heh:

Oh, are seeds per character or per job/ class? i.e. should I use em now or hoard em?

Per character. I used a couple of seeds on the Hero early on. Might be better to hoard them until you at least unlock the ability to change vocations.

I might dump the ones I have so far into the Hero as he's usually a safe bet as being a good all round character in DQ games. I'm gonna stick it on soon and pick up where I left off on Saturday night - getting killed in battles I underestimate!

In DQ IV I put all my seeds of strength (maybe just all my seeds full stop come to think of it) into Alena and made her an absolute tank.

I bought this yesterday, £19.99 in GAME. Seems they only had four left too, so I wouldn't count on it being reduced to £14.99.

Ah, it's fantastic! There's nothing quite like having a brand new Dragon Quest to play.

That is an absolutely amazing price. Any one who's interested and still hasn't obtained this game should definitely give it a go at that price.

I completed VI a while ago and I plan to get onto the post-game stuff once all my Uni revision and re-sits are out the way. Struggling to decide which is now my favourite, VI or V? Maybe if they included the original recruit-able monster list instead of just slimes, I may have found VI to easily be the best. (Though admittedly, there are no where near as many monsters you could recruit in the original VI compared to V)

Yeah, I saw it at £19.99 and GAME and I've been contemplating it heavily since. I think my main issue is that while I would like an RPG of sorts to while away the summer, DQ VI is supposedly grind heavy and while I didn't mind a bit of that in IX (at least up until the end, the post game I haven't bothered touching as I'm not grinding metal slimes to be able to take on legacy bosses), VI is old school grinding which I've found a chore in RPGs at times.

Dunno. I'm thinking either this or Solatorobo. Perhaps both as I've got stuff to trade in. Just not sure I want loads of grinding.

Is it supposed to be grind-heavy once you've unlocked vocation-changing? I haven't done that yet. So far it's as fast-paced as IV and V.

I'm loving the music and humour. There's just something about Dragon Quest that does it for me, nothing else is the same. I don't think it's got a chance of matching V though, as the gameply involves jumping between two different realms, which I don't enjoy as much as a straightforward quest. Plus, I loved the monster collecting in V, all the dragons etc. Another thing is that Dragon Quest V had amazing music. This is good, but V is amazing.

Not really. Each area has a level cap so you can't really grind anyway. Most vocations are easy to level as well. Obviously you'll need to grind a bit if you want to level up in each vocation for each character but I'd say it's easier than DQIX.

Argh, just had a very frustrating bit:

but[/i] you can't Evac or Zoom, therefore you can't do a proper save. I beat Murdaw in the first round (when he has his bodyguards), but was defeated in the 2nd. Very frustrating, and probably the worst-designed bit of Dragon Quest I've ever seen.
