But T-Mobile are terrible, so go somewhere else. T-Mobile were shit for me, and even if you've found them good, their actual contracts are awful.

yeah i know which is why I was originally just gonna get an iphone 3gs but everyone seems so down on them as phone.

Doooood get an N900 on Vodafone.

My contract is (I dunno how much you use it for actual calls) but mine is £25 for 300 minutes and unlimited texts. 3 months free insurance. (Phone was £16.99 on this contract, but free on anything more. And really whats £16.99 eh)

£5 extra for unlimited interwebs. So thats about £5 cheaper than my T-Mobile was, with both limited minutes and texts, and Web n Walk that never worked, and no kind of help.

Check out my review!

Since then I've downloaded various apps that I gather are also on iPhone like TuneWiki, and I've downloaded a SNES emulator got Mario Kart and DKC2 on it! :D

I really can't recommend this phone enough.

I suppose the reason I liked it so much was because it was also an iPod.

This is something I never got. I use my Nokia 5800 as my music player and it's just as good (if not better) as an iPod.

Who first suggested the N900 to you? Oh yeah, it was me. You're welcome. :p

I couldn't actually find the +Interwebs on Vodafone, so I bought it off Nokia.co.uk directly. Which is run through some third party....I rang them twice (no need for me to, I was just checking delivery so I could let people know it should be coming/I was excited) and they were incredibly friendly and helpful both times.

But yeah Nokia.co.uk, there was a link on the left that said "Deals" or something.

Actually I just looked and couldn't find it, so here's where I bought it from (their actual website)

Oh...lol here we go. Bottom left corner has a list of all the contracts ("More great deals, view tariffs")

And I thank you, cos its awesomeeeeee! :D

Oh, and I don't know what the memory is like on an iPhone but this is 30 gigs and micro SD slot, which I found quite impressive.

No worries man. Hope you like it. I'm sure you will though. I had high expectations (one particular guy at work was hyping the fuck out of it) and it has passed even my expectations. When you get it I'll send you a few links so you can access more apps. (perfectly legal/non hacking type things so no worries)

~ Oh don't feel pressured by me though ~ Just saying its awesome. ;)

I've read a few reviews and watched some to...and it looks better than the iphone to me, multi tasking, bigger screen, funkier UI and better as a phone!

one question, does it have any kind of podcast downloading software? I think I'm gonna move away from using my ipod nano but need my podcasts...just its a pain having to go and download them...is there an ovi pc program like itunes that can handle all that shit

Yeah the multi tasking is absolutely brilliant. Some guy on Youtube got upto something like 35 without crashing, and upto 24 without any kind of slow down.

Just searching the apps now for podcast things. Lesse. And yeah theres a specific podcast client (gPodder) and a few other things that don't give description.

And of course we're about 2 months into support for this thing, so apps will just flood the market. (The actual OVI store isn't open yet. Don't know why) but yeah you can still download apps.

I might get one of those N900 doo hickies too. Milestone is taking waaaay too long to go mass market and I can't be fooling around with my mobile and the way the buttons keep jamming up. But 5 years worth of service is something you can't fault.

And Ill try the podcast thing in a second and report back.

Okay, downloaded this manager thing and (I've not experienced one before) but you could search by various options, even YouTube and it looks fine. Intuitive.

alright cool...one last question...does the media player support resume...just I sometimes listen to podcasts spread out over a couple of days...remember an old sony ericsson didn't so I had to remember where I'd listened up to! although guess with multi tasking I can just keep the media player running in the background?

Yeah exactly, you can just multi task it. I'm not sure specifically if it can resume but you can at least do it the multi way.

found another media player called panucci that apparently does it..

EDIT:

REZ! what do you make of it as a phone, seems to be a lot of people slagging it off.. Although to be fair i've been stuck using a crappy phone for a while, it has to be better than that...

here's some comments lol:

I have always used communicator style devices. First all the Psion devices and later on the nokia communicators, I have almost had them all, the 9210 (i), 9500/9300 and E90. And I was looking for a new device, as my old but trusted E90 had almost died. The N900 looked promising.

It's a powerful device, and the webbrowser is the best on any mobile device!! And fennec is not even out yet....

So the last 3 weeks I have tried to only use my N900, I put my E90 in offline mode and stashed is somewhere else.

First of all the N900 is not a phone!!!! (it's an internet tablet) Yes it makes calls, but it seems the call program is slow to start. E.g. you start the contact application, and choose a number you would like to call. You would expect the program to instantaneously call that number. That's not what happens. Usually you have to wait, and wait and wait. Then the phone app shows up. The call sometimes has already been made, but without the phone app showing at that moment... It's really frustrating.

Also as everybody knows, MMS is lacking, just like voicedialing etc..

Messaging is painfully slow. Refreshing email from the Google Imap server when trying to open an email sometimes takes ages. I thought emoze on my E90 was sometimes slow, but this can sometimes takes several minutes. I have even removed half of my inbox from my google account to speed things up, but it didn't work. Loading images also takes ages.

Oh yeah also no push-email, at least not with your gmail. I have heared that is thoul work with Nokia Email/messaging, but my experience with nokia Email on my E90 that it was unreliable. usually it works okay, but sometimes email is not fetched for almost a day...

Multitasking. yes you can have several programs open at anytime, but on my E90 I had that too, and had no problems whatsoever.

Also there is no inbox/email widget.

The calendar sucks, and is almost unusable. You just don't have a proper and usable view of your appointments. We really need a Handycalendar or papyrus/calendar kind of app for Maemo.

The keyboard has illuminated keys, but illumination is sensor controlled, just as the backlight of the screen. But for some reason this is sometimes unreliable. Sometimes the screen is just to dark, or the keys are not illuminated when yo need them to be illuminated...

Everybody is overjoyed that Maemo5 is a really open(source) system.

I have actually my doubts

Usually opensource (linux) means freeware. Till now I have almost not seen any commercial software being available or being developed/announced (only Sygic and Documents To go).

Android is only partial open and see how much software is available already. I really, really hope (but as said I have my doubts) that commercial developers will embrace Maemo5 and or Maemo6.

I really miss mobipocket (but thanks to amazon, a new version will never happen), tomeraider or other proper dictionary style ebookreader.

Are there any positive points?

yes, it's quite fast, browsing is a blast! the keyboard is much better than that of my E90.

Is maemo5 better than Symbian S60?

IMHO no I don't think so. Of course Maemo has lots op possibilities. At this moment the N900 is for early adopters, with very limited software available. No docment editing software etc.

Of course software development takes time, so there is good hope.

Symbian has a good user base and software developersbase. There is a lot of software available and Symbian supports Phones better!!

Would I recommend bying a n900? No not at this moment, perhaps when the long promise firmware fixes phone issues and email issues, perhaps then.

You really need to have a basic grasp of linux and X terminal to get the most out of your n900, and I am quite a n00b at this...

I had a play with an N900 a few days ago. Really liked it. The screen is very good, the OS is powerful and it clearly has a lot of potential. Quite thick though and to be honest I wouldn't say that the UI is all that intuitive. Great once you know how it works, but there's definitely a learning curve.

But T-Mobile are terrible, so go somewhere else. T-Mobile were shit for me, and even if you've found them good, their actual contracts are awful.

I'd have to say I agree. Good coverage, but the CS is terrible! Foreign call centres are not the way to go! Even worse when the staff are rude and have a tendancy to hang up on you if they can't be bothered to deal with your enquiry.

I bailed in December 2008 for Vodafone and haven't looked back. Their eForum is great! Most trivial problems can be sorted out through there over email or PM and when a phone call is needed they phone me at a time that I specify. They also use UK call centres! Vodafone do tend to be a little more expensive, but IMO it's worth the extra. Less hassle, better coverage (especially on the West Coast Mainline, which they seem to cover the majority of) and higher data speeds.

I might get one of those N900 doo hickies too. Milestone is taking waaaay too long to go mass market and I can't be fooling around with my mobile and the way the buttons keep jamming up. But 5 years worth of service is something you can't fault.

I'm beginning to feel the same way. I ignored the N900 to start with, I really wasn't expecting it to be very good. I've no idea why, but I got the WinMo vibe from it. However, having used one now I can't help thinking I should just order it and forget about the Milestone. It looks like a good handset, and I'm buying SIM-free so I can order it whenever I like, but I'm not prepared to until I've demo'd it. The Sony X10 is also due in 2 weeks time, making the decision even harder.

Flamey, I've found the text messaging near instant, easily the fastest I've ever seen/had, and calling is fine I've had no problems at all with either.

Just did a test actually and am uploading the video now.
